About Witch Raising: The Book of Fire

Witch Raising is a new series with Brownie, the heroine of Demon Soul as the main character. This series is part of the House at the Crossing Series and follows Demon Soul and Demon and Fairy but instead of being centered on the adventure of Sahel and his demon friends, it follows Brownie as she goes from being a normal girl to a bad ass witch. She has been practicing magick for a while now, saving people from difficult situations but the people at the house, including Sahel aren't happy with her new calling. Feeling that she doesn't have a choice and has to keep learning witchcraft, Brownie leaves to meet other witches.

The excerpt, we start where we left off last week

"A lot of people have tried to understand, the crystal, nobody can. Nobody know why they grow back, nobody know why there is a tree and nobody understand how the crystal works with pictures. The only thing that would make sense is the craziest of them all." The monk said.

"And what is the crazyiest of them all?" Brownie asked.
"Well the crystal and the tree and the writing, it's not really here," the monk said with a wink.
That really was crazy. But Brownie had heard of crazier. If the crystals and the tree weren't really here but only visible through a sort of dimentional portal that would make sense. She had had one of those in her living room. Now was to figure out where the crystal portal would lead.
"Thank you," Brownie said.
"I think you should go have a look at the carving again, if they are here for you to see, they have to mean something for you and you only," the monk said. "I have mine too, very nice message."
It seemed a bit strange but Brownie smilled and went back to the carvings.

"What did he said?" Samantha asked.

"That the carvings were different for everyone," Brownie answered.

Mystery Monday 99: Harajuku Kiss

Welcome Mystery Monday. For this weekly writing blog post, I will be presenting snippets of my novel Harajuku Kiss, a mystery romance in Japan.I hope you'll enjoy following our heroine through her thoughts and adventures.

About Harajuku Kiss

At times, life can be so depressing. She is walking her usual recovery tour in Harajuku, finishing with a crepe, trying to forget that her boyfriend dumped her once again for the week-end... When the unthinkable happens... A boy stops in front of her in the street and kisses her, in the middle of the street, before running away.

Trying to discover more about him, she is dragged into a dangerous game of mystery. A biologist has been murdered and a deadly virus is on the loose. First suspect: the mysterious Harajuku's stranger.

Here is the snippet for this week (Check out the previous snippet here

Five months earlier

Only few lights lit the façade half way to the top. Kaji looked at the company building wondering how it would feel to work up there, to have a view over the city when his eyes would get tired of staring at the computer screen, how it would feel to work in sunshine instead of electrical lights. He sighed and hurried his steps toward the side door. He had never entered through the front door. His laboratory was just not a part of the company accessible through the main entrance. They had said it was because the research he would be doing was more important and because they didn’t want anyone to be disturbing his team. It was something too secret, with high budget and high priorities, something they couldn’t risk a foreign team to figure out. He was bound by secrecy and entering through the side door was part of secret keeping.

WeWriWar 349: The House at The Crossing 57

Hello everybody and welcome for a new Sunday of writing with Weekend Writing Warrior and Snippet Sunday!

How are you doing?

Let's continue with  "The House at the Crossing" and it's a prequel to Demon Soul and the demon series. It's a bit of a mix of Fantasy and Science-fiction.

It follows one of the books more obscure character as she first comes into the House. It's supposed to explain why there are so many people is the house and sort of where they come from and at the same time be a first time adventure for the main character as she needs to adapt to her new role and the new version of who she is.

Let's start right at where we left off last time, let's meet Wendy.

“An experiment gone wrong,” Wendy says.
Right, an experiment.
“Are you human?” My other self asks.
I don't know why she has to verbalise every thought before trying to find the answer for ourselves, that's disturbing. I don't want to be saying everything that crosses my mind once I'm her. Is it possible that this wouldn't happen? Can we me different enough that we never actually join or absorb.
I knew I had a part of me that didn't like me but this is a bit much.

Vampire Friday: Vampire Heart 313

Welcome to a new part of Vampire Heart unedited. Have you been bitten yet? Sign up to be part of our awesome Vampire Friday blog hop team! You know you want to!

Summary of the previous episodes:

Viorel has been tortured by his supposed family who wanted to have him burn in the sun. Strangely enough the sun didn't burn him as expected but Viorel has no memory of who he is. Following the advises of his supposed father, he left Sighișoara and is now traveling to the West. After some skirmish in a previous city, he found refuge on a boat. Viorel is now in Vienna. The little problem is that the guy at the inn was a bit of an asshole and helped capture Viorel thinking he was a vampire, which he is but nobody needs to know. Now there is a huge man (which I call the colossi) taking care of Viorel and a priest. They brought a girl. Torture my holy water... Fail. Viorel managed to confuse everyone, now he would like to get out of here. But the girl seems pretty useless. They still managed to escape and he left the girl to the care of the boat lady before going back to have two words with his captors but his power of persuasion were failing him. The priest wanted to crack a deal but Viorel is not really up to help his enemies. He finally got some blood but he can't risk to stay in Vienna. He travel to Linz were he stays a bit to learn German.
Viorel wanted to go to Praha but redirect himself toward Augsburg instead where he wants to get a horse, except that the horses are a bit scared of his vampirism and maybe something else. Viorel is really not a horse expert. Then he comes into an altercation with couple of people, he wants some fear in his blood. The girl Viorel has found seemed to enjoy the game. Viorel prepares for the nightmares that come with a feast of blood, in a rush to leave, he cross the dukedom of Lorrain.
We introduced Sorina, three weeks after the beginning of Viorel's escape.
Viorel dreamed of Sorina and woke up not really remembering anything. Traveling to Paris, he arrives at "La cour des miracles". He is rescued by a stranger who turned out to be Nicolas Flamel, the alchemist he was looking for. Nicolas does some strange experiment without Viorel's agreement. Some people are looking for Nicolas's secrets. On the other side of Europe, Sorina awakes and Viorel's past in haunting him. Viorel discovered that he can change into a wolf but that's not the easiest thing to handle. After finding out that a younger version of Nicolas might not be acting with his best interest at heart, Viorel decides to leave for the north. He is now traveling with two people, Alexej who needed to get out of Praha and Irina who he accidentally rescued.

Now, let's continue with Vampire Heart, right where we left off last week.

Irina was not in my room. Curiously I noticed that the window was open. She might have been in need for fresh air before going back to her room but it didn’t sound like Irina either. I hated my weakness, had I drunk more of her blood, had I not spare her she would still have been standing exactly where I left her. I went to her room and it was equally empty. I cursed remembering her story, her and her mother hiding from the dragons in the wood until someone came to look for them. There were no dragons here, they only belonged to her imagination but that was none the less dangerous. I went back to my room, walked to the window to looked at the forest. She had used the bed clothes to make herself a ladle. Me who had finally stopped thinking that she would run away, I felt like such a fool. But it wasn’t me she was running from. I walked to the border of the balcony, breathing the air around me, trying to find her smell in the atmosphere, to follow her. She was barefoot, she couldn’t be too far. I couldn’t estimate how long it had taken me to stop the horses and how long it had taken her to escape my power. Not long enough. I jumped to the ground and receptionned myself badly. It wasn’t high for a vampire but it was for a human and I was a human when lacking blood. I cursed my clumsiness and started to run in the forest, looking for the signs of her escape, the footsteps imprinted in the wet ground, broken branches on the floor and on the nearby bushes. It was all I could do, I tried and try again to smell her and the memory came back to me. The memory of me running in the forest, a lot faster than I was doing now, closer to the ground feeling the mud stick to my legs, feeling the grass and the herbs all around me, the distinct smell of each of them, hearing the cries of the birds. My hand started to change first but I didn’t notice it. I only notice that my shoes suddenly felt too big for me but I couldn’t stop running, I left them one after the other stuck in the mud. I started to breath and smell more easily, the smell of the forest after the rain was opening my other senses and in the same way it had happened in Praha once before, my clothes slide against my thinner wolf body. I didn’t know why and I didn’t know how but I was transforming and I could smell Irina on every branch she had touched. Once again I was a wolf and I didn’t even ask myself how I managed to change without the moon, not yet, I was too busy trying to find a way to get to Irina.
