Mystery Monday 87: Harajuku Kiss

Welcome Mystery Monday. For this weekly writing blog post, I will be presenting snippets of my novel Harajuku Kiss, a mystery romance in Japan.

I hope you'll enjoy following our heroine through her thoughts and adventures.

About Harajuku Kiss

At times, life can be so depressing. She is walking her usual recovery tour in Harajuku, finishing with a crepe, trying to forget that her boyfriend dumped her once again for the week-end... When the unthinkable happens... A boy stops in front of her in the street and kisses her, in the middle of the street, before running away.
Trying to discover more about him, she is dragged into a dangerous game of mystery. A biologist has been murdered and a deadly virus is on the loose. First suspect: the mysterious Harajuku's stranger.

Here is the snippet for this week (Check out the previous snippet here)

Everything was leading to this particular question, because right now, in my state of mind and in the state of my life, I was definitely not going toward the things I wanted. I was running away from my real self and I had rediscovered it, looking blankly at this page of Japanese scripted text. And I was getting tired of running away. I opened my own text editor, this was going to be fastidious but that wouldn’t be the first time. After all, I had read entire books in languages I didn’t know. It was like a very complicated puzzle.

WeWriWar 341: The House at the Crossing 49

Hello everybody and welcome for a new Sunday of writing with Weekend Writing Warrior and Snippet Sunday!

How are you doing?

Let's continue with  "The House at the Crossing" and it's a prequel to Demon Soul and the demon series. It's a bit of a mix of Fantasy and Science-fiction.

It follows one of the books more obscure character as she first comes into the House. It's supposed to explain why there are so many people is the house and sort of where they come from and at the same time be a first time adventure for the main character as she needs to adapt to her new role and the new version of who she is.

Let's start right at where we left off last week, can you see the changes in Margo's memories?

“How many other people live here?” I ask, and what are they I want to ask but I'm still trying to rack my brain around the vampire part and it isn't happening.
“At the moment, about fourteen,” Aunt Teresa says. “Mostly teenagers, except...”
“For Viorel,” I finish her sentence.
“He is about 600 years old, give of take but he looks like he is thirteen or so,” Teresa says.
“So he was turned young then,” I ask.
“No, he was born this way, it's complicated.”
At this point, I'm not sure if she is joking or not.

Vampire Friday: Vampire Heart 301

Welcome to a new part of Vampire Heart unedited. Have you been bitten yet? Sign up to be part of our awesome Vampire Friday blog hop team! You know you want to!

Summary of the previous episodes: Viorel has been tortured by his supposed family who wanted to have him burn in the sun. Strangely enough the sun didn't burn him as expected but Viorel has no memory of who he is. Following the advises of his supposed father, he left Sighișoara and is now traveling to the West. After some skirmish in a previous city, he found refuge on a boat. Viorel is now in Vienna. The little problem is that the guy at the inn was a bit of an asshole and helped capture Viorel thinking he was a vampire, which he is but nobody needs to know. Now there is a huge man (which I call the colossi) taking care of Viorel and a priest. They brought a girl. Torture my holy water... Fail. Viorel managed to confuse everyone, now he would like to get out of here. But the girl seems pretty useless. They still managed to escape and he left the girl to the care of the boat lady before going back to have two words with his captors but his power of persuasion were failing him. The priest wanted to crack a deal but Viorel is not really up to help his enemies. He finally got some blood but he can't risk to stay in Vienna. He travel to Linz were he stays a bit to learn German.
Viorel wanted to go to Praha but redirect himself toward Augsburg instead where he wants to get a horse, except that the horses are a bit scared of his vampirism and maybe something else. Viorel is really not a horse expert. Then he comes into an altercation with couple of people, he wants some fear in his blood. The girl Viorel has found seemed to enjoy the game. Viorel prepares for the nightmares that come with a feast of blood, in a rush to leave, he cross the dukedom of Lorrain.
We introduced Sorina, three weeks after the beginning of Viorel's escape.
Viorel dreamed of Sorina and woke up not really remembering anything. Traveling to Paris, he arrives at "La cour des miracles". He is rescued by a stranger who turned out to be Nicolas Flamel, the alchemist he was looking for. Nicolas does some strange experiment without Viorel's agreement. Some people are looking for Nicolas's secrets. On the other side of Europe, Sorina awakes and Viorel's past in haunting him. Viorel discovered that he can change into a wolf but that's not the easiest thing to handle. After finding out that a younger version of Nicolas might not be acting with his best interest at heart, Viorel decides to leave for the north. He is now traveling with two people, Alexej who needed to get out of Praha and Irina who he accidentally rescued.

Now, let's continue with Vampire Heart, right where we left off last week.

Irina was not in my room. Curiously, I noticed that the window was open. She might have been in need for fresh air before going back to her room but it didn’t sound like Irina either. I hated my weakness, had I drunk more of her blood, had I not spare her she would still have been standing exactly where I left her.

I went to her room and it was equally empty. I cursed remembering her story, her and her mother hiding from the dragons in the wood until someone came to look for them. There were no dragons here, they only belonged to her imagination but that was none the less dangerous. I went back to my room, walked to the window to looked at the forest. She had used the bed clothes to make herself a ladle. Me who had finally stopped thinking that she would run away, I felt like such a fool.

But it wasn’t me she was running from. I walked to the border of the balcony, breathing the air around me, trying to find her smell in the air, to follow her. She was barefoot, she couldn’t be too far. I couldn’t estimate how long it had taken me to stop the horses and how long it had taken her to escape my power. Not long enough. I jumped to the ground and landed badly. It wasn’t high for a vampire but it was for a human and I was a human when lacking blood. I cursed my clumsiness and run in the forest, tripping on branches and protruding roots, looking for the signs of her escape, the footsteps imprinted in the wet ground, broken branches on the floor and on the nearby bushes. It was all I could do, I tried and try again to smell her and the memory came back to me.

Thursday Fiction 290: Parallel Slip

Welcome back to a new part of Parallel Slip, where we follow the adventures of Frederique through her slip in different parallel universes.

Let's start right where we left off last week. This week, Frederique is back in her own universe.

I was pulled back as I was sitting on a chair in the amphitheater next to Alex. Julie was in control now and I closed my eyes a few second and blinked to let myself slowly enter my own reality.

The classes hadn't started yet. The lecturer was at the bottom of the stairs taking care of his paper and students were still filling the room.

"You're back already," Alex said stating the obvious.

"I can't be out for five hours every single time, that would make my day so much longer," I said.

"The time doesn't flow linearly between universes?" Alex asked.

I had talk without thinking and he had catch the little hole in the story.

"I'm not sure," I said. "Seeing that I can be the captain of a spaceship it would make sense that the time line are different but then again, it could be just that we went directly from antiquity to renaissance without the all dark age."

"Did you talk to her?" Alex asked.

I took my notebook out of my bag, if he was going to help me through it, I could record it right here right in front of Alex.

"Yes, I talked to her," I said.

"Anything emotional," Alex asked.

"She was crying and freaked out," I said.

"Oh!"

I wrote my trip down on the journal, everything I could remember about Julie's life, her memory, what her dad said, the itchiness and obviously my interaction with her. I was so tired. I probably didn't do anything good in that world. I had no idea how to deal with that sort of problems, I didn't feel itchy, at least not the way she did. I though that might be a side effect of my trips, maybe I didn't feel that way because I had been in so many different skin. Somehow that should have felt gross but I never actually thought about it before. I ended up in my body in different worlds.
