Mystery Monday 85: Harajuku Kiss

Welcome Mystery Monday. For this weekly writing blog post, I will be presenting snippets of my novel Harajuku Kiss, a mystery romance in Japan.

I hope you'll enjoy following our heroine through her thoughts and adventures.

About Harajuku Kiss

At times, life can be so depressing. She is walking her usual recovery tour in Harajuku, finishing with a crepe, trying to forget that her boyfriend dumped her once again for the week-end... When the unthinkable happens... A boy stops in front of her in the street and kisses her, in the middle of the street, before running away.
Trying to discover more about him, she is dragged into a dangerous game of mystery. A biologist has been murdered and a deadly virus is on the loose. First suspect: the mysterious Harajuku's stranger.

Here is the snippet for this week (Check out the previous snippet here)

Somehow, I know it’s not going to be easy, I know it’s going to be painful, I know that asking someone to translate or read and do the thing for me is going to be so much easier. So I take the back door of shame and I pretend that I can’t do it, just because it’s easier that way and I go shopping or read a novel instead or watch a movie in a language I can understand completely.

I looked at the letter, knowing that I had so much mixed feelings about it that it would be difficult to overcome. So far the overwhelming task of the possible encounter of unknown characters had been the total turn off in my ability to improve my language skills. Well, that and other things about my relation to languages, I would guess.

WeWriWar 341: The House at the Crossing 47

Hello everybody and welcome for a new Sunday of writing with Weekend Writing Warrior and Snippet Sunday!

How are you doing?
I entered the 6 Week challenge this month, it has been a long time since I did it last. It's a challenge to learn languages and I'm doing Irish as my main target language this time around.

Let's continue with  "The House at the Crossing" and it's a prequel to Demon Soul and the demon series. It's a bit of a mix of Fantasy and Science-fiction.

It follows one of the books more obscure character as she first comes into the House. It's supposed to explain why there are so many people is the house and sort of where they come from and at the same time be a first time adventure for the main character as she needs to adapt to her new role and the new version of who she is.

Let's start right at where we left off last week, Teresa is still talking.

“I made friends with the inhabitants. I learned about the previous guardians and then the house became mine and I could model it has I wanted to. Adding is good,” Teresa said. “Try not to remove or misplace rooms though, the others don't really like it when they don't remember where their bedroom is.”
She laughed and opened the door to the bathroom. It had a baby changing table and my diaper bag was on the top of it.
“How?” I started.
But Teresa smiled. “Everything you need is in the house, I really mean it.”

Vampire Friday: Vampire Heart 299

Welcome to a new part of Vampire Heart unedited. Have you been bitten yet? Sign up to be part of our awesome Vampire Friday blog hop team! You know you want to!

Summary of the previous episodes: Viorel has been tortured by his supposed family who wanted to have him burn in the sun. Strangely enough the sun didn't burn him as expected but Viorel has no memory of who he is. Following the advises of his supposed father, he left Sighișoara and is now traveling to the West. After some skirmish in a previous city, he found refuge on a boat. Viorel is now in Vienna. The little problem is that the guy at the inn was a bit of an asshole and helped capture Viorel thinking he was a vampire, which he is but nobody needs to know. Now there is a huge man (which I call the colossi) taking care of Viorel and a priest. They brought a girl. Torture my holy water... Fail. Viorel managed to confuse everyone, now he would like to get out of here. But the girl seems pretty useless. They still managed to escape and he left the girl to the care of the boat lady before going back to have two words with his captors but his power of persuasion were failing him. The priest wanted to crack a deal but Viorel is not really up to help his enemies. He finally got some blood but he can't risk to stay in Vienna. He travel to Linz were he stays a bit to learn German.
Viorel wanted to go to Praha but redirect himself toward Augsburg instead where he wants to get a horse, except that the horses are a bit scared of his vampirism and maybe something else. Viorel is really not a horse expert. Then he comes into an altercation with couple of people, he wants some fear in his blood. The girl Viorel has found seemed to enjoy the game. Viorel prepares for the nightmares that come with a feast of blood, in a rush to leave, he cross the dukedom of Lorrain.
We introduced Sorina, three weeks after the beginning of Viorel's escape.
Viorel dreamed of Sorina and woke up not really remembering anything. Traveling to Paris, he arrives at "La cour des miracles". He is rescued by a stranger who turned out to be Nicolas Flamel, the alchemist he was looking for. Nicolas does some strange experiment without Viorel's agreement. Some people are looking for Nicolas's secrets. On the other side of Europe, Sorina awakes and Viorel's past in haunting him. Viorel discovered that he can change into a wolf but that's not the easiest thing to handle. After finding out that a younger version of Nicolas might not be acting with his best interest at heart, Viorel decides to leave for the north. He is now traveling with two people, Alexej who needed to get out of Praha and Irina who he accidentally rescued.

Now, let's continue with Vampire Heart, right where we left off last week.

“My wife,” the inn keeper said. “She is still in the carriage and we can’t calm the damn horses.”
His voice seemed desperate. I would have expected the lady inside of the carriage to cry, make noise or try to go out but the inside was quiet and nobody was moving behind the curtains. I knew nothing about horses and I had no ideas how to help. I just knew that there was something in Alexej scaring the horses just like I had scared them before. I walked toward him, not really aware of what I was doing. Alexej was still at a respectable distance of the horses, mainly training to block their way wherever they were trying to go but I didn’t care about such precaution.

I stopped facing the horses and walked straight at them clacking my tongue against my palate like I had heard so many coachman do before. The horses didn’t calm down, at best they seemed intrigued, their feet were still flying high and I had to esquive them more then once.

The inn keeper was yelling that I had gone mad like the horses and to stop me. Alexej’s movement seemed to have slowed down in my back. The horses stopped kicking and started to walk backward. I knew they would soon be stopped by the trees. I raised my hand to bring it to the high of their heads, I could see the madness move their nostrils, smelling their breath blowing in my face, the sweat of their runs, their growing fear as they escaped the wolf. It was all here, mixed in front of me in their behaviour. I could understand the way they move by studying them like I had studied the humans before. They almost reached the trees and I knew they feared the wolves who might come from behind them and they feared to predator in me just like my horse had done before.

I accelerate toward the horses as the carriage hit a tree. The horses couldn’t run anymore, they had to finally face me, they tried to kick again but I was too close. I placed one hand on the check of one and the other hand on the nose of the other.

They were breathing heavily, trembling in my hands like Irina had done few moments ago. I waited for them to calm down, for their eyes to stop moving like crazy dust balls in the wind. They kicked the ground with their feet.

They tried to push me away. I could feel their strength against my shoulders. But I stayed and won. They lowered their head and allowed me to take the bridle, they followed me as I lead them back in the centre of the court, in front of the inn.

Thursday Fiction 288: Parallel Slip

Welcome back to a new part of Parallel Slip, where we follow the adventures of Frederique through her slip in different parallel universes.

Let's start right where we left off last week, with Frederique fainting into a different universe.

"You were doing good, one step at a time. With her blood test, we will know if it's biological and how to fix it," her dad said.

I stayed silent, trying not to think in case she would hear me. It was not the compulsive disorder that was freaking her out. It was my voice in her head.

"Did she hear voices?" I asked Julie's father.

He pushed her away and looked at her.

"No, do you hear voices?" he asked.

"No," I said. Damn that was a stupid move, I wanted Julie to see that hearing me was not related to her mum but I just managed to make her dad freaked.

"Then why did you ask?"

"I feel like I'm crazy and crazy people hear voices. I wondered if they are coming to get me too," I said.

He hugged me again.

"You are not crazy, sweety, everything is going to be ok."

"See told you," I said in Julie's head.

"Then what are you, I can hear you," Julie said.

"I'm here to help," I said. "See if every time you feel like doing something you think about me telling you to stop that might distract you long enough to stop you."

"But you'll have to say it," she said.

"I'm not here all the time," I said. "I can't be here all the time, I have other things to do."

"Are you god? Did you come to help me? I have been praying for so long," she said.

Oh, a religious version of me, not a first but still not my favorite version of me, not that I don't believe in god but I'm somehow always thinking about the bad stuff when he gets involved.
