Mystery Monday 82: Harajuku Kiss

Welcome Mystery Monday. For this weekly writing blog post, I will be presenting snippets of my novel Harajuku Kiss, a mystery romance in Japan.

I hope you'll enjoy following our heroine through her thoughts and adventures.

About Harajuku Kiss

At times, life can be so depressing. She is walking her usual recovery tour in Harajuku, finishing with a crepe, trying to forget that her boyfriend dumped her once again for the week-end... When the unthinkable happens... A boy stops in front of her in the street and kisses her, in the middle of the street, before running away.
Trying to discover more about him, she is dragged into a dangerous game of mystery. A biologist has been murdered and a deadly virus is on the loose. First suspect: the mysterious Harajuku's stranger.

Here is the snippet for this week (Check out the previous snippet here)

Even in the corridor between classes he was still drinking coffee and he had this hot bottle to keep fresh one and drink all day. I guess that’s when I became allergic to coffee, because of my strong repulsion to the history class he was teaching. But French people love coffee, just I’m not that French and I enjoyed the smell and taste of my tea, it helped me to concentrate.

I decided to keep the chemistry work for later and to try to find more direct clue about Seiji. The “for Seiji” folder was really appealing right now. After all, if he had given me the memory stick it was a bit like a permission to have a look at what was on it. I mean you won't give the key to your front door to someone if you don't want them to enter your house.

WeWriWar 339: The House at the Crossing 45

Hello everybody and welcome for a new Sunday of writing with Weekend Writing Warrior and Snippet Sunday!

How are you doing?
We are back on high alert here is Japan so I'm locked up at home in self confinement which gives me time for a lot of reading.

Let's continue with  "The House at the Crossing" and it's a prequel to Demon Soul and the demon series. It's a bit of a mix of Fantasy and Science-fiction.

It follows one of the books more obscure character as she first comes into the House. It's supposed to explain why there are so many people is the house and sort of where they come from and at the same time be a first time adventure for the main character as she needs to adapt to her new role and the new version of who she is.

Let's start right at where we left off last week !

Teresa gives me a sympathetic look.

"My parents and my brother never saw all those people. They saw the house exactly as it was the first time they entered it. It was what my father made it to be. As a child, of course, I didn't imagine much of anything, I didn't see the house for what it really was. But then, when I met my first other self. I was about fifteen years old then. I was in a phase and I wanted a place to hide. I found the attic. It was not what it should have been."

Vampire Friday: Vampire Heart 296

Welcome to a new part of Vampire Heart unedited. Have you been bitten yet? Sign up to be part of our awesome Vampire Friday blog hop team! You know you want to!

Summary of the previous episodes: Viorel has been tortured by his supposed family who wanted to have him burn in the sun. Strangely enough the sun didn't burn him as expected but Viorel has no memory of who he is. Following the advises of his supposed father, he left Sighișoara and is now traveling to the West. After some skirmish in a previous city, he found refuge on a boat. Viorel is now in Vienna. The little problem is that the guy at the inn was a bit of an asshole and helped capture Viorel thinking he was a vampire, which he is but nobody needs to know. Now there is a huge man (which I call the colossi) taking care of Viorel and a priest. They brought a girl. Torture my holy water... Fail. Viorel managed to confuse everyone, now he would like to get out of here. But the girl seems pretty useless. They still managed to escape and he left the girl to the care of the boat lady before going back to have two words with his captors but his power of persuasion were failing him. The priest wanted to crack a deal but Viorel is not really up to help his enemies. He finally got some blood but he can't risk to stay in Vienna. He travel to Linz were he stays a bit to learn German.
Viorel wanted to go to Praha but redirect himself toward Augsburg instead where he wants to get a horse, except that the horses are a bit scared of his vampirism and maybe something else. Viorel is really not a horse expert. Then he comes into an altercation with couple of people, he wants some fear in his blood. The girl Viorel has found seemed to enjoy the game. Viorel prepares for the nightmares that come with a feast of blood, in a rush to leave, he cross the dukedom of Lorrain.
We introduced Sorina, three weeks after the beginning of Viorel's escape.
Viorel dreamed of Sorina and woke up not really remembering anything. Traveling to Paris, he arrives at "La cour des miracles". He is rescued by a stranger who turned out to be Nicolas Flamel, the alchemist he was looking for. Nicolas does some strange experiment without Viorel's agreement. Some people are looking for Nicolas's secrets. On the other side of Europe, Sorina awakes and Viorel's past in haunting him. Viorel discovered that he can change into a wolf but that's not the easiest thing to handle. After finding out that a younger version of Nicolas might not be acting with his best interest at heart, Viorel decides to leave for the north. He is now traveling with two people, Alexej who needed to get out of Praha and Irina who he accidentally rescued.

Now, let's continue with Vampire Heart, right where we left off last week.

They still sat together, not talking to each other, their noses in their plates. I was amazed. I would have thought that Irina would have been the first to leave to sat at another table, not necessarily with me, especially not with me. I would have thought that Alexej would have left to go see the horses and talk to them as I was sure he did when we weren’t around, about how bad Irina was or about my conversation with him or the others. But there was something keeping them with each other and that was the fear of the dragons. It was on everybody’s mind and I knew it.
The food wasn’t bad but something seemed to be missing. Alexej asked the little man to bring him more bread and the little man came over to ask me if it was alright. Alexej was pissed and put his money on the table. I was paying for the room but he didn’t intend to look like a beggar.
There was something funny about his way of moving, it wasn’t like the other men I had met. I hadn’t spend so much time with Alexej who preferred the company of the horses to my own but something in the way he was moving his hands had changed. Irina seemed to notice it too because she had a movement to take her glass up but she let it back on the table and stood up to go to the room. The fear could be read on her face again, just like when she had told me about her encounter with the dragon. The tension was palpable in the room.
“Is there a problem with your driver?” the inn keeper asked.
“No,” I answered.
He looked at Alexej and then back at me.
“My wife should arrive tonight, I don’t want any trouble with the customers, I have enough with the dragons,” he said.
“There won’t be any trouble,” I assured him.

Thursday Fiction 286: Parallel Slip

Welcome back to a new part of Parallel Slip, where we follow the adventures of Frederique through her slip in different parallel universes.

Let's start right where we left off last week, with Frederique fainting into a different universe.

"I had to know," I answered. It was a safe move. Obviously, I was here because for some reason I wanted answers. I wasn't dressed for a walk in the wood and only a different truth could have made me cry at this place.

"Because your mother is like this doesn't mean you have to be the same. I told you we would find a solution," my father said.

I sighed. I had no idea what he was talking about and that was annoying. I wanted to tap into Julie's memories but that wasn't happening. All I was getting were my own from few minutes before I blacked out and the discussion with Alex. I tried to tap in the long term memories but once again only things related to myself came up.

"Your mother wasn't this bad that last time I saw her, she could still control it. Being alone didn't help but you won't be alone because I'll be here for you," he said.

"Was it the reason why you left her?"

"Julie, you know I never wanted this, she decided she didn't want anything to do with me anymore because she couldn't control me and I wouldn't let her control you, she asked for the divorce, I didn't. I just took her to a psychologist to make sure she would be ok. I didn't know she had stopped going," he said.

The image of my mother hands came to my mind, the reason why I had looked at mind in the first instant too.

"Did you see her hands?" I asked.

Julie's father hugged her.

"I know," he said. "We'll find a way, you'll play the tricks again and again, we'll fine a way."
