About Witch Raising: The Book of Fire

Witch Raising is a new series with Brownie, the heroine of Demon Soul as the main character. This series is part of the House at the Crossing Series and follows Demon Soul and Demon and Fairy but instead of being centered on the adventure of Sahel and his demon friends, it follows Brownie as she goes from being a normal girl to a bad ass witch. She has been practicing magick for a while now, saving people from difficult situations but the people at the house, including Sahel aren't happy with her new calling. Feeling that she doesn't have a choice and has to keep learning witchcraft, Brownie leaves to meet other witches.

The excerpt, we start where we left off last week

The temperature was getting explosive between the two of them and Brownie wondered how they had happened to be in the same room. It seemed like Trisha had a good grip on how she grouped people.
"And you can read your books in your dirty village's library," Samuel said.
"Ouh, that hurts," Samantha answered before she turned to Brownie. "Don't worry too much about him. Everywhere you go there is always a guy or two who have no clue about anything else than what they see on daily basis. Pretty much brain washed by TV to the point of being brain dead. As for the big meaty stew, check it up right here," Samantha said. "It's probably the best thing you can eat around here."
She handed Brownie her book. It was really beaten up on all pages with a lot of corner folded and refolded. It had annotation on the page near the stew and Brownie guessed it might have as much on other pages. She read the description and smiled. The only thing that really had to do with fire was it's name but there wouldn't be any spice in there.
"I think that's it over there." Josh said.
It didn't take them too long to reach the old Graddy restaurant and as promised it was the only restaurant with a sign hanging over the street. It looked pretty antic.
"I'm sure that thing will fall at the next storm," Samuel said taking a detour on the street no to walk under the sign."
"They don't do storm in this part of the country," Samantha said walking straight under it and to the door behind Josh. Brownie followed while Marri and Sandy took the tour like Josh had done.
Brownie thought that if Ethan had been there, he would have calculated the probabilities of the sign falling on their faces to be really close to zero. It would have been fun to see the look on Samuel's face if she had been able to do that. Like considering the wind and the state of oxydation and bla bla bla. But she didn't say anything. She had too much to observe and care about, like making sure she would be sitting at the corner of the table.

Mystery Monday 66: Harajuku Kiss

Welcome Mystery Monday. For this weekly writing blog post, I will be presenting snippets of my novel Harajuku Kiss, a mystery romance in Japan.
I hope you'll enjoy following our heroine through her thoughts and adventures.

About Harajuku Kiss

At times, life can be so depressing. She is walking her usual recovery tour in Harajuku, finishing with a crepe, trying to forget that her boyfriend dumped her once again for the week-end... When the unthinkable happens... A boy stops in front of her in the street and kisses her, in the middle of the street, before running away.
Trying to discover more about him, she is dragged into a dangerous game of mystery. A biologist has been murdered and a deadly virus is on the loose. First suspect: the mysterious Harajuku's stranger.

Here is the snippet for this week

I had a Korean friend few years ago, and every time, he had to walk to the crosswalk and wait for the light to turn green before crossing. Even holding my hand he was too scared of the cars to cross with me. That was really strange to me. I mean a guy who can take really spicy food but can’t cross anywhere else than on the pedestrian crossing even if it is really far away, and there isn't so many cars, and we are already late and it’s raining on the top of everything. That was really, really strange to me.

Vampire Friday: Vampire Heart 281

Welcome to a new part of Vampire Heart unedited. Have you been bitten yet? Sign up to be part of our awesome Vampire Friday blog hop team! You know you want to!

Summary of the previous episodes: Viorel has been tortured by his supposed family who wanted to have him burn in the sun. Strangely enough the sun didn't burn him as expected but Viorel has no memory of who he is. Following the advises of his supposed father, he left Sighișoara and is now traveling to the West. After some skirmish in a previous city, he found refuge on a boat. Viorel is now in Vienna. The little problem is that the guy at the inn was a bit of an asshole and helped capture Viorel thinking he was a vampire, which he is but nobody needs to know. Now there is a huge man (which I call the colossi) taking care of Viorel and a priest. They brought a girl. Torture my holy water... Fail. Viorel managed to confuse everyone, now he would like to get out of here. But the girl seems pretty useless. They still managed to escape and he left the girl to the care of the boat lady before going back to have two words with his captors but his power of persuasion were failing him. The priest wanted to crack a deal but Viorel is not really up to help his enemies. He finally got some blood but he can't risk to stay in Vienna. He travel to Linz were he stays a bit to learn German.
Viorel wanted to go to Praha but redirect himself toward Augsburg instead where he wants to get a horse, except that the horses are a bit scared of his vampirism and maybe something else. Viorel is really not a horse expert. Then he comes into an altercation with couple of people, he wants some fear in his blood. The girl Viorel has found seemed to enjoy the game. Viorel prepares for the nightmares that come with a feast of blood, in a rush to leave, he cross the dukedom of Lorrain.
We introduced Sorina, three weeks after the beginning of Viorel's escape.
Viorel dreamed of Sorina and woke up not really remembering anything. Traveling to Paris, he arrives at "La cour des miracles". He is rescued by a stranger who turned out to be Nicolas Flamel, the alchemist he was looking for. Nicolas does some strange experiment without Viorel's agreement. Some people are looking for Nicolas's secrets. On the other side of Europe, Sorina awakes and Viorel's past in haunting him. Viorel discovered that he can change into a wolf but that's not the easiest thing to handle. After finding out that a younger version of Nicolas might not be acting with his best interest at heart, Viorel decides to leave for the north. He is now traveling with two people, Alexej who needed to get out of Praha and Irina who he accidentally rescued.

Now, let's continue with Vampire Heart, right where we left off last week.

When a Blutsauger, that’s the word for vampire, is placed in detention after a large meal of vampiric blood, the transformation is irrevocable. To transform their victim into one of them the blood suckers sucked the blood from the neck of the human being who had fallen into their dreadful end until the man or woman can barely breath any longer. The victim then unable to carry himself on his shacking legs falls along the body of the one they call Sire. The sire then open a large cut in his chest with one of his nails. The nails of the vampire are strong and sharp like blades as soon as they have restorde their energy with human blood. Once deprived of blood the nails looks more like human nails. I remembered that Irina had taken my hands to check on my nails while reading this.
“Ah!” she had exclaimed as if she had made a discovery not yet present in the journals, I had observed my nails to but they seemed pretty normal to me and Irina has started to translate again.
The human’s mouth is then force to the cut and he has to willingly or not drink the blood of the sire. We have seen vampire telling us that they didn’t want to drink but that the strength of the vampire holding them was way too strong for them to resist. As far as we have observed we have see very little resistance while going through the process of blood drinking and we attribute it either to the human being willing to change or by the vampire putting thoughts in their mind.
I had seen human being changed. Once the blood was drained out of them their body was left without strength and the change generally let them unconscious for hours if not days, it was never certain that they were going to make it alive as the vampire needed to be extremely precise in changing them which was the reason why only older vampires were doing it, especially when the change mattered. I was still uncertain about the reasons which had led Cosmin and his companion to change humans in Praha, maybe they had felt lonely, maybe they wanted to put their hands on my faster. The Jäger were convinced that we were evil, which was maybe true but their writing was done in a way that made it look even worse than it actually was and part of their knowledge was tainted with their Christian believes.

Thursday Fiction 271: Parallel Slip

Welcome back to a new part of Parallel Slip, where we follow the adventures of Frederique through her slip in different parallel universes.

Image by Gerd Altmann from Pixabay
Let's start right where we left off last week.

"Sure I would love to take over Michelle's body though, if she wasn't two dimensional," Billy said.
Alex laughed at the joke and wash the pans. I couldn't wait to be out of here. The big thing is when you spend half of your time at the hospital and the rest sitting in classes because you are not allowed to the play-ground with the other kids that doesn't really let you develop social skills. I had more social skills with the temporary people in the universes I occasionally visited than in this one. I didn't know how to deal with people like Billy.
"Have fun while I'm slaving away on Polish history," Billy said walking out with his microwaved pizza.
"Sure we will," Alex answered.
He turned to me and smiled.
"You know he won't eat you, you look totally flushed," he said laughing.
"It's not funny, I don't know what to say to him, ever," I answered.
There were many people around here and they tend to come and chat in the kitchen and I would wait in my room and hide to go to the kitchen unless Amy or Alex were with me. I was a hopeless case.
"What's the last history book you read," Alex said.
"I don't think I ever read one unless you count 1421 and Empress Orchid," I said.
"Here you go, you have about the same level as Billy then," Alex said.
"But Polish history?"
"Is what he should be reading but he'll probably just make up something about Marie Curie and Chopin? I've been to his room a couple of time, he has a list of to read books pined to the closet door and only one crossed on it, I never saw a single book in there but he has a lot of empty pizza box and beers."
"Then what am I supposed to say to him?"
"Show him you are having a lot of fun, he likes that and he hates anime," Alex said.
"So when you asked if he wanted to watch, you knew," I said opening big eyes.
"We have more important things to do, tonight is the night when we become statistic experts on parallel worlds and I'm not sharing that with anyone else but you."
