Vampire Friday: Vampire Heart 279

Welcome to a new part of Vampire Heart unedited. Have you been bitten yet? Sign up to be part of our awesome Vampire Friday blog hop team! You know you want to!

Summary of the previous episodes: Viorel has been tortured by his supposed family who wanted to have him burn in the sun. Strangely enough the sun didn't burn him as expected but Viorel has no memory of who he is. Following the advises of his supposed father, he left Sighișoara and is now traveling to the West. After some skirmish in a previous city, he found refuge on a boat. Viorel is now in Vienna. The little problem is that the guy at the inn was a bit of an asshole and helped capture Viorel thinking he was a vampire, which he is but nobody needs to know. Now there is a huge man (which I call the colossi) taking care of Viorel and a priest. They brought a girl. Torture my holy water... Fail. Viorel managed to confuse everyone, now he would like to get out of here. But the girl seems pretty useless. They still managed to escape and he left the girl to the care of the boat lady before going back to have two words with his captors but his power of persuasion were failing him. The priest wanted to crack a deal but Viorel is not really up to help his enemies. He finally got some blood but he can't risk to stay in Vienna. He travel to Linz were he stays a bit to learn German.
Viorel wanted to go to Praha but redirect himself toward Augsburg instead where he wants to get a horse, except that the horses are a bit scared of his vampirism and maybe something else. Viorel is really not a horse expert. Then he comes into an altercation with couple of people, he wants some fear in his blood. The girl Viorel has found seemed to enjoy the game. Viorel prepares for the nightmares that come with a feast of blood, in a rush to leave, he cross the dukedom of Lorrain.
We introduced Sorina, three weeks after the beginning of Viorel's escape.
Viorel dreamed of Sorina and woke up not really remembering anything. Traveling to Paris, he arrives at "La cour des miracles". He is rescued by a stranger who turned out to be Nicolas Flamel, the alchemist he was looking for. Nicolas does some strange experiment without Viorel's agreement. Some people are looking for Nicolas's secrets. On the other side of Europe, Sorina awakes and Viorel's past in haunting him. Viorel discovered that he can change into a wolf but that's not the easiest thing to handle. After finding out that a younger version of Nicolas might not be acting with his best interest at heart, Viorel decides to leave for the north. He is now traveling with two people, Alexej who needed to get out of Praha and Irina who he accidentally rescued.

Now, let's continue with Vampire Heart, right where we left off last week

Once again she was bringing Alexej in the middle of her argument. He could speak Czech and Polish as well as she did but would never touch a book. He was annoyed every time we were buying some and complained that it was silliness, only making it harder for the horses. I hadn’t heard the horses complaining but Alexej had resolved to make a point and to show his discontentment by making them walk slower. Irina was happier than ever about it and I didn’t see a problem with it. It was all in Alexej hands and at time he was furious to see us laugh about it whenever we took a break. He also decided never to sleep in a bed and Irina complained that he never changed clothes and brush his brown hair that were falling in front of his eyes making him look even darker than he was. Every time she would mentioned it he would become more and more taciturn and hide with the horses. He was large and big, and I didn’t understand why Irina was always able to make him ran away while only talking to me about him.
When they were asleep at night, I enforced myself to translate the diaries in every languages I knew. What I had remember from Irina’s reading of the day. Writing in Romanian was fast, French and English didn’t disturb me too much, normal German was easier than I had expected because some of the words were very close to the one in Old German. I didn’t dare to try any of my Slavic languages. I had scared Irina the first time I started to record everything she had been translating. She had told me that they were written in Old indecipherable German for a good reason. There were books according to her that didn’t need to be translated, some knowledge that were better hidden from everybody and those journals were too frightening to be translated. She had made me swear to forget about translating them and my human part at sworn but when I was alone in the darkness on the night with only a candle or two to enlighten my inn’s bedroom, my sense as a vampire was taking over and I was eager to share the knowledge I was learning to prevent future generations from falling into the end of the Church.

Thursday Fiction 269: Parallel Slip

Welcome back to a new part of Parallel Slip, where we follow the adventures of Frederique through her slip in different parallel universes.

Image by Gordon Johnson from Pixabay
Let's start right where we left off last week.

"Not really consciously I guess," I said. "But if I get all the memory of my other self and they somehow get mine wouldn't that be super confusing? Or impossible to store in my brain?"
"Well there is a theory that talks about the arrow of time. That in some parallel universe it would go from the future to the past instead of from the past to the future. This way I would imagine that you can also have reversal of entropy as well," Alex said.
"So that instead of universes differentiating themselves to infinity, having universes that fight against chaos," I said.
"Exactly, then they collapse together. It might even be that every single of your trip is due to one of those collapses and that every time you have one the universe link themselves together so the memory should be there. In the end I don't think any human ever reached full storage capability, our brain has a different way to deal with those things than computer," Alex said.
It was amazing to talk to him because he could push my understanding of my travel in new directions just my mentioning things.
"But if that's the case, it might even be that I never go to the same universe twice, just to very similar one which have collapse back together," I said.
"That could be. You should test it, like hide something in one universe and see if it's still there the next time you go back. I would think that because you actually go to the same looking universe multiple time..."

Wednesday Snippet 271: Blue Angel

Welcome to a new part of Blue Angel unedited, we start right where we left off last time.

Isakael rushed out of the room as soon as the bell rang and the door opened. He needed to breath, that was just too much information for him to bear with. He walk as fast as he could without looking suspicious, his hood far in front of him, looking at the ground to make sure that nobody would recognize him. Then the insane idea hit him. Going to Ezechiel's office. Looking around for something. He didn't even know what. Something to confirm what the other angel had told him, or maybe something to prove to himself that Ezechiel was planning something bad. It was as if he needed to justify to himself that the angels were bad to prove to himself that he wasn't. He walked through the corridor forgetting about the cold wind deeply, sinking in his own thoughts.
If he wanted to find Jezabel before the others, he needed more clues than just “the demon or the human world,” even those were vast.
He only noticed that he wasn't in front of his bedroom door when he stopped. It was Ezechiel's office. He started to prepare a lie, a believable one, a reason why he was here. He knew he couldn't really lie but he hoped that at least Ezechiel would like what he was hearing. He knocked at the door. No answer. He knocked again a little bit louder and the door turned slightly on its hinges. Isakael swallow in his dry throat and looked around. The corridor was deserted. Only the offices of the permanent conceal members were to be found here. He pushed on the door slowly, it creaked a little at first but soon stopped. Isakael breathed more easily.
“Is there anyone here?” He asked before sneaking in.
There was no answer. The office entrance was dark. There were heavy coats hanging on the right side with an umbrella, pair of shoes well aligned bellow them.
“What the hell am I doing here?” Isakael thought but it was too late to stop now.

Tuesday Travel 60: Witch Raising: The Book of Fire

Welcome to Tuesday Travel. Every Tuesday, I will be presenting an excerpt of Witch Raising: The Book of Fire, the book in which Brownie, the heroine of Demon Soul, is undertaking an initiatory journey.

About Witch Raising: The Book of Fire

Witch Raising is a new series with Brownie, the heroine of Demon Soul as the main character. This series is part of the House at the Crossing Series and follows Demon Soul and Demon and Fairy but instead of being centered on the adventure of Sahel and his demon friends, it follows Brownie as she goes from being a normal girl to a bad ass witch. She has been practicing magick for a while now, saving people from difficult situations but the people at the house, including Sahel aren't happy with her new calling. Feeling that she doesn't have a choice and has to keep learning witchcraft, Brownie leaves to meet other witches.

The excerpt, we start where we left off last week

"But if you girls want to go get your vegetarian stew go for it," Josh added with a smile.
"I guess we can break the rules but just because we are on a trip, when we get home you can't have any meat either," she said to Samuel.
"Sure," Samuel said walking to the door.
"What's the big deal with those girls and their veggy anyway?" Josh asked Samuel.
"No please, don't get them started." Samuel answered.
Brownie followed the boys hoping that the fire stew they were talking about wasn't going to pierce a hole through her stomach.
"What's in the fire stew exactly?" Brownie asked.
"No idea," Samuel answered.
"That's the scary part, they don't know what's in there and they still want to eat it anyway," Sandy answered. She was now locking arms with Marri and left Brownie alone. Brownie let go of her barrier and hoped it was going to last.
"The cool thing about visiting new places is to do what people who live there do," Josh answer, "When you're home you do what you want, eat what you want but when you are out there in the vast and beautiful world, you have to see everything and taste everything."
"If you want to be the best tourist on the planet," Marri answered.
"I don't mind being a tourist, I want to see, I'm not asking about an authentic experience like living with a family for a year or whatever, I like the exhilaration, the quick fix, tasting the local food is the best way to go and also you are one hundred percent sure it's not poisonous if you eat at the local restaurant. I wouldn't know how to prepare half of the vegetable and fruit they have here," Josh said.
"Tonight we eat and tomorrow we watch the best festival of the Autumn. Nothing to worried about except showing up and opening our eyes and mouth."
"And wallet," Sandy answered.
