Vampire Friday: Vampire Heart 270

Welcome to a new part of Vampire Heart unedited. Have you been bitten yet? Sign up to be part of our awesome Vampire Friday blog hop team! You know you want to!

Summary of the previous episodes: Viorel has been tortured by his supposed family who wanted to have him burn in the sun. Strangely enough the sun didn't burn him as expected but Viorel has no memory of who he is. Following the advises of his supposed father, he left Sighișoara and is now traveling to the West. After some skirmish in a previous city, he found refuge on a boat. Viorel is now in Vienna. The little problem is that the guy at the inn was a bit of an asshole and helped capture Viorel thinking he was a vampire, which he is but nobody needs to know. Now there is a huge man (which I call the colossi) taking care of Viorel and a priest. They brought a girl. Torture my holy water... Fail. Viorel managed to confuse everyone, now he would like to get out of here. But the girl seems pretty useless. They still managed to escape and he left the girl to the care of the boat lady before going back to have two words with his captors but his power of persuasion were failing him. The priest wanted to crack a deal but Viorel is not really up to help his enemies. He finally got some blood but he can't risk to stay in Vienna. He travel to Linz were he stays a bit to learn German.
Viorel wanted to go to Praha but redirect himself toward Augsburg instead where he wants to get a horse, except that the horses are a bit scared of his vampirism and maybe something else. Viorel is really not a horse expert. Then he comes into an altercation with couple of people, he wants some fear in his blood. The girl Viorel has found seemed to enjoy the game. Viorel prepares for the nightmares that come with a feast of blood, in a rush to leave, he cross the dukedom of Lorrain.
We introduced Sorina, three weeks after the beginning of Viorel's escape.
Viorel dreamed of Sorina and woke up not really remembering anything. Traveling to Paris, he arrives at "La cour des miracles". He is rescued by a stranger who turned out to be Nicolas Flamel, the alchemist he was looking for. Nicolas does some strange experiment without Viorel's agreement. Some people are looking for Nicolas's secrets. On the other side of Europe, Sorina awakes and Viorel's past in haunting him. Viorel discovered that he can change into a wolf but that's not the easiest thing to handle. After finding out that a younger version of Nicolas might not be acting with his best interest at heart, Viorel decides to leave for the north. He is now traveling with two people, Alexej who needed to get out of Praha and Irina who he accidentally rescued.

Now, let's continue with Vampire Heart, right where we left off last week.

“Good girl,” the woman answered smiling and she knelled near the man still looking at Sorina. Sorina crawled back. She was with them all along, with the vampires, she was one of them but her blood smelled different. Sorina smelled the air in front of her trying to determine if she could bit her or not. She felt the need of blood more and more strongly, it was the first time that she had something decent to drink.
“He is not dead yet but I don’t give him much time to live, at least you won’t have to live with killing him,” she said.
Sorina wanted to answer but it seemed that the words where stuck in her throat.
“Viorel,” she managed barely to mutter. In her mind, it made sense out of her mouth it sounded so different than what the lady had said that she wondered if she had said it right.
“Follow me, I’ll have someone come to take care of him,” the lady said.
“Viorel,” Sorina repeated louder but the sound of her own voice seemed totally different than the sound of the voice she had imagined in her head.
The lady reached her hand to her. Sorina moved slowly forward and smelled the air between her and the lady’s hand like a little animal.
“Don’t be afraid, give me your hand, it’s time for you to get out of here,” the lady said.
Sorina lifted her hand up slowly to reach her but before touching the hand the draw back in her corner, pushed the rats’ bones around and lay on the floor.
“Come with me,” the lady said.

Thursday Fiction 260: Parallel Slip

Welcome back to a new part of Parallel Slip, where we follow the adventures of Frederique through her slip in different parallel universes.

Let's start right where we left off last week.

Amy was laughing with someone in her room, they were super loud. Alex knocked at the door and entered without waiting for an answer.
"What the hell!" Amy said, "Can't I even have a bit of privacy?"
Tamara was sitting at the desk, blowing on her nails. And it suddenly hit me why Amy wouldn't join the salsa class with me.
"Hi," Tamara waved at me.
"Hi," I said.
A part of my wanted to scream and ask what the hell was she doing here but I guess that wasn't any of my business. Amy had said they weren't seeing each other anymore during classes straight after the incident at the party but that couldn't be right, they were meant to have classes together anyways. And then, she had said Tamara was one of the drop out but why would she drop out if she was part of the group who managed to get the exams answer before hand. That didn't make any sense either.
"We were wondering if you wanted to have some dinner with us," I said casually as if it didn't bother me to have Tamara here and as if I didn't know what it meant.
"What the hell is she doing here?" Alex asked.
"She is my friend and she can visit me if she wants too," Amy said placing her hands on her hips. "And we already had dinner."
I noticed the empty plates on the desk.
"Fine," Alex said.
He pushed me toward the corridor and closed the door behind him before storming toward the kitchen. Tamara was back at laughing with her annoying high pitch voice and Amy was soon to follow. I didn't get what could be so funny.

Wednesday Snippet 262: Blue Angel

Welcome to a new part of Blue Angel unedited, we start right where we left off last time.

Jezabel was siting next to him when Kelpie woke up. She was looking at him with benevolent eyes and it disturbed him a bit. He almost wanted to pretend to still be asleep but it was too late already, she had seen his eyes open.
“Good morning,” she said.
“It's more like evening now,” Kelpie grumbled. If there was something he hated it was silly greetings. The fairy loved greetings and he could never bother to answer them.
“So shall I finish to cure your ribs,” Jezabel said with a smile moving closer to him?
“Don't you ever stop?” Kelpie asked standing up in a hurry to put some distance between him and her.
The bruises on her hands and face had already disappeared but her wings were still as blue as ever. She didn't seem to have any broken ribs left either.
“I'm an angel, I can't stop being me,” she said.
“Well, that's annoying,” Kelpie answered. He had never been really good at being himself, most of the time he had been walking around pretending to love and care for stuff that he hated and following what his deceased grand-father had told him to do. What a joke!
The angel looked down and her smile seemed to disappear. Kelpie wondered if she was going to cry again. She was driving him insane, he had to hurt her to make her happy but if he didn't hurt her the way she wanted to she was even sadder, that didn't make any sense. Damn if he ever could find a girl who wouldn't be so complicated. He hated girls and this angel was definitely not going to make him change his mind any time soon.

Tuesday Travel 51: Witch Raising: The Book of Fire

Welcome to Tuesday Travel. Every Tuesday, I will be presenting an excerpt of Witch Raising: The Book of Fire, the book in which Brownie, the heroine of Demon Soul, is undertaking an initiatory journey.

About Witch Raising: The Book of Fire

Witch Raising is a new series with Brownie, the heroine of Demon Soul as the main character. This series is part of the House at the Crossing Series and follows Demon Soul and Demon and Fairy but instead of being centered on the adventure of Sahel and his demon friends, it follows Brownie as she goes from being a normal girl to a bad ass witch. She has been practicing magick for a while now, saving people from difficult situations but the people at the house, including Sahel aren't happy with her new calling. Feeling that she doesn't have a choice and has to keep learning witchcraft, Brownie leaves to meet other witches.

The excerpt, we start where we left off last week

She took the smaller perpendicular street and walked to the back-packer hostel. It was a tall and large building taking as much as twice the space of any store and restaurant on this street. Brownie wondered if it was that huge at the back too but if it had a dormitory, it might do. A bell rang from the door when she entered and her aquamarine started to spin again. She was feeling happy that it could turn without twisting the chain around her neck or she would have had a strangulation problem right here.
"Let me guess," a woman said. "One room for the night, you don't know if you'll stay for the entire festival or not and you don't have a reservation."
"Heu, yes," Brownie said coming closer to the counter. "You see that Rori, pay up," a man in the corner took a bill of ten out of his pocket and ended it to the woman.
"I still don't get how you can see that," he answered.
"Intuition babe," the woman answered.
Brownie noticed a deck of card in front of the woman and there was a spread.
"Here is your key," the woman said. "You are booked for four night because you don't want to take the train on the night the festival ends, trust me." She winked.
"How did you know?" Brownie asked.
"It's all in her damn cards," Rori answered. "She has been guessing people all day, it gives me one of a headache looking at her do so."
"Would you teach me? " Brownie asked before she could think any better. Then after all, the goddess had asked her to learn so that might also be it.
