Mystery Monday 50: Harajuku Kiss

Welcome Mystery Monday. For this weekly writing blog post, I will be presenting snippets of my novel Harajuku Kiss, a mystery romance in Japan.
I hope you'll enjoy following our heroine through her thoughts and adventures.

About Harajuku Kiss

At times, life can be so depressing. She is walking her usual recovery tour in Harajuku, finishing with a crepe, trying to forget that her boyfriend dumped her once again for the week-end... When the unthinkable happens... A boy stops in front of her in the street and kisses her, in the middle of the street, before running away.
Trying to discover more about him, she is dragged into a dangerous game of mystery. A biologist has been murdered and a deadly virus is on the loose. First suspect: the mysterious Harajuku's stranger.

Here is the snippet for this week

I was a teenager at that time and going to high school in a small city isn’t better than in a big one. The bulling is there, the stupidity is there and that guy, yet another one, was there, with his dark black spiky hair, his always fluttering eyelids over deep brown eyes, and his way to get in trouble with the teachers. As far as I can remember I loved him for four years with hopes that he would stop dating all these girls who didn’t care a bit about him and look at me. Of course he knew I liked him, everybody did. At that time, I had wished for something to happen, anything to make my life more exciting than doing homework and avoiding contacts with other kids by reading books. And my wish had been granted, something had happened but it only taught me to be careful about what I wished for. If you make a wish, you have to be very specific, because just wish for something might mean it'll destroy your family.

WeWriWar 320: The House at the Crossing 26

Hello everybody and welcome for a new Sunday of writing with Weekend Writing Warrior and Snippet Sunday!

Let's continue with  "The House at the Crossing" and it's a prequel to Demon Soul and the demon series. It's a bit of a mix of Fantasy and Science-fiction.
It follows one of the books more obscure character as she first come into the House. It's suppose to explain why there are so many people is the house and sort of where they come from and at the same time be a first time adventure for the main character as she needs to adapt to her new role and the new version of who she is.

We aren't there yet in the draft but sometimes, I feel like this story lost of bit of the purpose I first intended for it as people don't spend as much time in the house as I anticipated when I started writing it. It doesn't make it bad, just different. I guess maybe the lock down is making me rethink things. I guess the book could have a few sequels after all, if I feel like it when it's finished.

Let's start right at where we left off last week !

“I don't understand,” I said.
“Parallel universes my dear,” Aunt Teresa said with a smile.
She took her mug and raised it to her lips. The flavor on it said apple. I hadn't brought apple tea, mine was still a mix of vanilla and lavender.
“You see,” she continued before putting her mug back down. She had barely drunk, it was still too hot, some of me where doing the same thing. “This house is at the crossing of everything. When you enter it, and the other versions of you from the different universes do, you are all real, you can all see each other. You are fragmented but soon, everything will become as one again, all your memory will merge and you will remember, everything from all those lifes you lived. Isn't it marvelous?”

Vampire Friday: Vampire Heart 265

Welcome to a new part of Vampire Heart unedited. Have you been bitten yet? Sign up to be part of our awesome Vampire Friday blog hop team! You know you want to!

Summary of the previous episodes: Viorel has been tortured by his supposed family who wanted to have him burn in the sun. Strangely enough the sun didn't burn him as expected but Viorel has no memory of who he is. Following the advises of his supposed father, he left Sighișoara and is now traveling to the West. After some skirmish in a previous city, he found refuge on a boat. Viorel is now in Vienna. The little problem is that the guy at the inn was a bit of an asshole and helped capture Viorel thinking he was a vampire, which he is but nobody needs to know. Now there is a huge man (which I call the colossi) taking care of Viorel and a priest. They brought a girl. Torture my holy water... Fail. Viorel managed to confuse everyone, now he would like to get out of here. But the girl seems pretty useless. They still managed to escape and he left the girl to the care of the boat lady before going back to have two words with his captors but his power of persuasion were failing him. The priest wanted to crack a deal but Viorel is not really up to help his enemies. He finally got some blood but he can't risk to stay in Vienna. He travel to Linz were he stays a bit to learn German.
Viorel wanted to go to Praha but redirect himself toward Augsburg instead where he wants to get a horse, except that the horses are a bit scared of his vampirism and maybe something else. Viorel is really not a horse expert. Then he comes into an altercation with couple of people, he wants some fear in his blood. The girl Viorel has found seemed to enjoy the game. Viorel prepares for the nightmares that come with a feast of blood, in a rush to leave, he cross the dukedom of Lorrain.
We introduced Sorina, three weeks after the beginning of Viorel's escape.
Viorel dreamed of Sorina and woke up not really remembering anything. Traveling to Paris, he arrives at "La cour des miracles". He is rescued by a stranger who turned out to be Nicolas Flamel, the alchemist he was looking for. Nicolas does some strange experiment without Viorel's agreement. Some people are looking for Nicolas's secrets. On the other side of Europe, Sorina awakes and Viorel's past in haunting him. Viorel discovered that he can change into a wolf but that's not the easiest thing to handle. After finding out that a younger version of Nicolas might not be acting with his best interest at heart, Viorel decides to leave for the north. He is now traveling with two people, Alexej who needed to get out of Praha and Irina who he accidentally rescued.

Now, let's continue with Vampire Heart, right where we left off last week.

He pulled her closer and leaked her neck in the most obscene way making sure that everyone could see him do, making sure that they knew she was already his. He draw back a little, the two girls he had chosen first were sitting on the floor, trembling, wondering what would happened to them. The first couldn’t even look up, the second was holding her shoulders trying to calm her when I could hear her heart from where I stood. My uncle put the girl in front of him and turned her to have her face him. She wasn’t trembling, she looked proud. I knew that couldn’t be good. If she was to defy him know, to fight for her human life, more would suffer. She knew it too but there was this air on her face that seemed to be forbidden her to see things clearly. It was as if she had always known this day would come. On the corner of the place stood a young man, his fists were tight he was looking at her, he also knew what would happen. She looked at him and smiled forgetting my uncle for a moment. They were obviously in love and they had already decided upon their fate.
“You are to become mine tonight my dear,” my uncle said.
A wave of growl passed through the crowd but nobody stood up to him, nobody tried to stop him. The girl looked back at him.
“Never,” she said.
The villagers drew back like one, as if they were trying to put as much distance between them and him. My uncle’s smile became larger. I had never heard anyone talking back to him. He young man had been seized. And Cosmin was bringing him in front of him. He couldn’t help himself, there was a sword hanging on his side that he didn’t have time to get out of it’s furrow.

I left the memory stick on the desk and put my empty yogurt in the bin. I needed sleep anyway. I always needed sleep, especially because I didn’t get much because of work and worry. But sleep wasn’t something easy for me. I used to be able to count myself down to sleep but I didn’t manage for a long time, actually since he started playing with my heart. Having a heart was pretty awesome, having a broken one was pretty painful. I lied down fixing the ceiling. The light of the cars passing in the street nearby was drawing light shapes on it. There was really nothing I could do right now and I knew it but I still couldn’t stop thinking about what had just happened. I remember that time so long ago when I wishes for something, anything to happen in my so boring life.
