Thursday Fiction 248: Parallel Slip

Welcome back to a new part of Parallel Slip, where we follow the adventures of Frederique through her slip in different parallel universes.

Let's start right where we left off last week.

We drove in front of my mother's house on the way back. It was strange to see it knowing that I wasn't really welcomed here anymore. So many memories and so much pain. I didn't say anything to Alex, I just let him drove away. I had the brain scan in hand but it was the first time my mother wasn't involved in it. It was a strange feeling, knowing that I could do it on my own, that I didn't need to be monitored. That no matter what would happen there were still people around me even if she wasn't there anymore. I had fired her as a mother. That's what I had said because that was the only thing I thought she would understand. I often asked myself if running away had been the best choice but there was no way to open a real conversation with her. She didn't have her way so it had to be no way.
"What are you thinking about?"
"I need to go to the library," I said.
"It will be close when we reached university, and I think you need some rest and..."
"Alex, nothing has changed. I need to get books on coma, medical books, I need to go to the medical library."
"You mean on the other campus? Are you gonna be ok? What really happened to you?"
"That's what we need to talk about. Mind if I start from the very beginning?"
"It's a two hours drive" Alex said.
"Right!"
He looked only at the road now, not turning to look at me as I stared at his profile. After this drive back, I would know for sure if I could trust him or if he was going to give up on me and thing I was crazy. It was the only way. I asked myself what I would do without Alex, what I would feel with Fin around if Alex was out of my life. I realised that it would just be all like before I came to university, that I would meet other people. If Alex couldn't deal with my secret, there was no way we could have any real friendship or anything more anyway. I took a deep breath to calm down the anxiety and I started my explanation.

Wednesday Snippet 250: Blue Angel

Welcome to a new part of Blue Angel unedited, we start right where we left off last time.

“About what?” Azazel asked. If there was a thing he didn't like much, that was to be interrupted by his girlfriend when she disagreed.
“I think there are a lot of way to improve your power and that we don't really know yet where the limits are, it's bound to who we are, to our believes, to our desire to use them or not, it could be illimited,” she said.
“Everything has a limit,” Azazel said.
“Not everything thing,” Sahel answered.
“Like what?” Azazel asked.
“The universe,” Seti answered.
“Time,” Sahel continued.
“Demon's stupidity,” Evalynn said making them all laugh.
“Ok, I have to agree on that one,” Azazel said dropping her hand to pass his hand around her waist.
Sahel stopped in the middle of the way just before the entrance of the main room. It was crowed with people carrying all sort of things. It was as if the attack had given them a reason to do a massive clean up. Seti tried to continue walk pass him but he stopped him.
“What?”
“Wait, can you feel that?”
“Feel what?” Azazel asked.
Evalynn had grabbed his hand quickly to forbid him to move forward.
“I can,” she said.
He looked at her, she was pale and she was clinging on him a lot stronger than normal, her finders had started to change into leaves and branches around his.

Tuesday Travel 39: Witch Raising: The Book of Fire

Welcome to Tuesday Travel. Every Tuesday, I will be presenting an excerpt of Witch Raising: The Book of Fire, the book in which Brownie, the heroine of Demon Soul, is undertaking an initiatory journey.

About Witch Raising: The Book of Fire
Witch Raising is a new series with Brownie, the heroine of Demon Soul as the main character. This series is part of the House at the Crossing Series and follows Demon Soul and Demon and Fairy but instead of being centered on the adventure of Sahel and his demon friends, it follows Brownie as she goes from being a normal girl to a bad ass witch. She has been practicing magick for a while now, saving people from difficult situations but the people at the house, including Sahel aren't happy with her new calling. Feeling that she doesn't have a choice and has to keep learning witchcraft, Brownie leaves to meet other witches.

The excerpt, we start where we left off last week

Brownie looked around, there were so many platforms. She check the board for Fireden, this was her first stop. It was a weird feeling as it made her think about Sahel and his fire. It was as if she was on her way to something that belonged to him. It was a four hours ride. She tried to get the thought out of her mind, hopefully, she wouldn't be in their long enough to think about Sahel or see something reminding her of him. Not that she needed to be reminded. It was starting to eat at her that she had left him just like that. Dylan and Viorel were probably in a lot of trouble trying to resonate with him. If only he could try to fix his own issues too, that would help when she came back. If she was ever strong enough to come back because in all honesty, she didn't think she was going to be able to fix herself or anything so easily. It was true that the little voice in the back of her mind was saying “hey, you did those spell super fast so you can fix them super fast too,” or “It's just an energy issue, once the energy is back at the right place you'll have no problem what so ever”, “relax, it's not such a big deal”, but if it had been easy to fix she would have found a way to deal with it in the library's books. Everything so far had been in those books after all, if they didn't have the answer well, maybe there were no answer. The only thing she had found in those book was a simple spell to ask the goddess for directions.
She had skip school on break one afternoon to go shopping for the ingredients and she had missed the next class. That's when she had realized that the situation with Sahel wasn't viable anymore. If it wasn't for him surveying what she was doing all the time and telling her how bad it was for her to do magic and forbidding her to go to the magic store, even the one on the human side which had become her most prevalent supplier, she would have gone after school. She wouldn't have been sneaking. She wished she had the strength to talked back to him earlier instead of letting him control her. But she wasn't strong enough at the time, she still didn't feel like she was, she believed that what he said about her was true.
It was a bit like a negative reinforcement. There was a part of her that liked the version of who she was before meeting Yue and before diving into magic for him a lot better than she liked this new version of her. There was a part of her that missed all the things she had to give up to be who she was now. She had given up her passion for fashion, the fashion club, the fashion magazine editing and her dress to become a seamstress. It was all gone, her grate had been falling because she wasn't doing her homework anymore and she knew that only happened to kids with problems but she couldn't help it. There just wasn't enough time to deal with everything and school work. She was sleeping in class because she didn't get enough sleep at night because of all her nightmares. She hated this life style. It just wasn't her anymore. So Sahel was having a point but at the same time, she couldn't just ignore the nightmare, ignore the chaos and just go back to the way things were before. It just didn't work that way. She couldn't just ignore the problems and hoped for the best.
So she had sneaked out of the room when Sahel was asleep and directed herself to the secret room in the library where she had hidden her supply.

Mystery Monday 39: Harajuku Kiss

Welcome Mystery Monday. For this weekly writing blog post, I will be presenting snippets of my novel Harajuku Kiss, a mystery romance in Japan.
I hope you'll enjoy following our heroine through her thoughts and adventures.

About Harajuku Kiss

At times, life can be so depressing. She is walking her usual recovery tour in Harajuku, finishing with a crepe, trying to forget that her boyfriend dumped her once again for the week-end... When the unthinkable happens... A boy stops in front of her in the street and kisses her, in the middle of the street, before running away.
Trying to discover more about him, she is dragged into a dangerous game of mystery. A biologist has been murdered and a deadly virus is on the loose. First suspect: the mysterious Harajuku's stranger.

Here is the snippet for this week

Guys are never back anytime soon, even when they say they would and even when they ask you to save them. It is like a genetic fact and it all started with my grand-father. When I was a kid, naturally, I enjoyed going out with my grand-father and eat the candies he would buy for me and my cousins whenever we were at the café while my grand-mother waited at home, alone and angry. Nobody likes to wait. At that time, my grand-father breathed so much like freedom because he went where he wanted, he looked so cool and so much taller than I was. As I grew up however and replaced my grand-mother waiting at home or anywhere for that matter, the guy making me wait didn't look cool anymore. Waiting had a huge impact on my already low self-esteem.
