We introduced Sorina, three weeks after the beginning of Viorel's escape.
Viorel dreamed of Sorina and woke up not really remembering anything. Traveling to Paris, he arrives at "La cour des miracles". He is rescued by a stranger who turned out to be Nicolas Flamel, the alchemist he was looking for. Nicolas does some strange experiment without Viorel's agreement. Some people are looking for Nicolas's secrets. On the other side of Europe, Sorina awakes and Viorel's past in haunting him. Viorel discovered that he can change into a wolf but that's not the easiest thing to handle. After finding out that a younger version of Nicolas might not be acting with his best interest at heart, Viorel decides to leave for the north. He is now traveling with two people, Alexej who needed to get out of Praha and Irina who he accidentally rescued.
Now, let's continue with Vampire Heart, right where we left off last week.
An old woman started to sing in bad Latin. I knew that she couldn’t even understand what she was saying as the words going out of her mouth sounded all the same, some were missing and her sentences didn’t make sense but the crowd still repeated the chorus, at first shyly but the intensity and fervour was rising. The humans were creating God. I guessed that’s why they called it the house of god because through their senseless praying they put faith and believed and the power of their heart created a warm almost feverish atmosphere. They thought it was god giving them power but it was the crowd, the train of thought all together focus on one repeated chorus that was giving their god a shape, not the other way around. But I had to be an outsider to notice it, who would think that they had god powers inside of them, inside of those old women’s chests, inside of the heart of those young men too scared of the dragons to be sleeping peacefully in their bed at home. Had I told them that they would have laughed, I wanted to laugh at it myself for it was just too true.
I walked closer, I wanted to see him, I wanted to know if he was just a simple priest of one of them. I felt more obsessed by the Jäger now that I had read their journals completely. Their knowledge of vampires tainted with superstition, their never ending quest to obtain what they hated us for. With Irina’s blood in my vein, I felt a strange mix of hatred toward them. I recognised my own but hers was new for me. She wanted to be one of us so much that she somehow wanted to be one of them as well while finding them repugnant. She was as thirsty for knowledge as I was for blood but she wasn’t like Nicolas absorbing anything coming her way, she was purpose oriented. She felt like someone had taken something away from her and she wanted it back. She was rushed, illogical and pitiful. Thinking that she wanted to be one of the Jäger was making me more angry against them.
