Tuesday Travel 120: Witch Raising: The Book of Fire

Welcome to Tuesday Travel. Every Tuesday, I will be presenting an excerpt of Witch Raising: The Book of Fire, the book in which Brownie, the heroine of Demon Soul, is undertaking an initiatory journey.

About Witch Raising: The Book of Fire

Witch Raising is a new series with Brownie, the heroine of Demon Soul as the main character. This series is part of the House at the Crossing Series and follows Demon Soul and Demon and Fairy but instead of being centered on the adventure of Sahel and his demon friends, it follows Brownie as she goes from being a normal girl to a bad ass witch. She has been practicing magick for a while now, saving people from difficult situations but the people at the house, including Sahel aren't happy with her new calling. Feeling that she doesn't have a choice and has to keep learning witchcraft, Brownie leaves to meet other witches.

The excerpt, we start where we left off last week

Brownie took a deep breathe as they reached the end on the room and entered a narrow corridor. This place had not been touched by humans, this was exactly the same type of cave when she had been held prisoner and her aquamarine wouldn't stop. It was getting dark, people were pressing again each other. She wished she could hold hands with Samantha or Josh but that would be too awkward afterward. She just wished someone was there and that this corridor led outside quickly because the space was once again closing up around her and she knew she wouldn't need much to see the images of her captivity again.

And the demon was there too. She couldn't see him but she could feel him, like in her worse nightmare. There was no way to escape, too many people around. No way to fight, no space to turn and run. Her aquamarine was shining under her T-shirt and sweater. She could feel it become warm and the other stone was vibrating in her pocket. That was a danger call, this place wasn't safe anymore, if it ever was. The demons could be leading them anywhere, she had been foolish to try for anything related to demon. The path they were taking wasn't going out, it seemed to be getting underground.

"They can't see you, they can't see you, remember that, you are already hidden," a little voice said in her head.

Brownie took a deep breathe wishing for the panic to subdue at least long enough for her to find the way out. She was safe, she had Viorel's pendant, the demons couldn't see them. Sahel hadn't been able to see her either.
