Tuesday Travel 117: Witch Raising: The Book of Fire

Welcome to Tuesday Travel. Every Tuesday, I will be presenting an excerpt of Witch Raising: The Book of Fire, the book in which Brownie, the heroine of Demon Soul, is undertaking an initiatory journey.

About Witch Raising: The Book of Fire

Witch Raising is a new series with Brownie, the heroine of Demon Soul as the main character. This series is part of the House at the Crossing Series and follows Demon Soul and Demon and Fairy but instead of being centered on the adventure of Sahel and his demon friends, it follows Brownie as she goes from being a normal girl to a bad ass witch. She has been practicing magick for a while now, saving people from difficult situations but the people at the house, including Sahel aren't happy with her new calling. Feeling that she doesn't have a choice and has to keep learning witchcraft, Brownie leaves to meet other witches.

The excerpt, we start where we left off last week

"About forty-five minutes," Samantha answered.

Josh snatched a few picture of the room and the ceiling. Brownie was amazed to see that he hadn't taken pictures of the crowd earlier. There had been a lot of things she would have loved to photograph, like the booths or all the lion statues they had passed by.

The singer started to sing again. The crowd went somehow quiet, all eyes looking at the woman in front of them. She was still wearing her white dress but her lions has disappear, instead she was with an old man who seemed to be her father. He was admonishing her for praying to be left out of her duty. Other characters appeared for the play, they all seemed as unhappy with her and they pushed her forward toward a dark curtain. The curtain opened on a decor of cave. This time it looked more like a real demon den and it gave Brownie the chill. It had to be what this place looked like before it was transformed. They pushed the girl toward the cave and ran away, she was still praying as if she hadn't listen to anything the villagers had said.

The Aquamarine under Brownie's T-shirt started to spin and the demon appeared. He was looking like a man but he had huge horns on the top of his head and large wings flipping in his back. Brownie didn't know how it was possible but he looked real. He scanned the crowd but his eyes didn't fall on anyone, they seemed to glide on Brownie and she clung at Viorel's medallion remembering that the demon couldn't see her.

"This costume is incredible," Josh whispered.

But one thing Brownie was sure of, this wasn't a costume.
