We introduced Sorina, three weeks after the beginning of Viorel's escape.
Viorel dreamed of Sorina and woke up not really remembering anything. Traveling to Paris, he arrives at "La cour des miracles". He is rescued by a stranger who turned out to be Nicolas Flamel, the alchemist he was looking for. Nicolas does some strange experiment without Viorel's agreement. Some people are looking for Nicolas's secrets. On the other side of Europe, Sorina awakes and Viorel's past in haunting him. Viorel discovered that he can change into a wolf but that's not the easiest thing to handle. After finding out that a younger version of Nicolas might not be acting with his best interest at heart, Viorel decides to leave for the north. He is now traveling with two people, Alexej who needed to get out of Praha and Irina who he accidentally rescued.
Now, let's continue with Vampire Heart, right where we left off last week.
The city was calm and too quiet for its size. I had absolutely no doubt that everyone who could afford it had gone to the country side to escape the dragon. We started to go to the tailor to get new clothes for Irina. She was reticent about trying them on and complained about almost everything. I knew it was her revenge against me but it was really stupid. It let me decide for her clothing which might not have been to her taste when she could have decided for herself. I wasn’t going to help her with it, she was just a pain to carry around. I told her to shut it up as she was annoying the tailors more and more. She started to complain even more smirking, she knew that I couldn’t do anything to her in front of everybody. What she seemed to have forgotten was that I would be alone with her again and I was still a vampire. She was bringing out the vampire in me and she was going to pay for it.
I bought her three dresses thick enough for the Northern Winter and snow and a coat with a large hood which could dissimulate her face. I also got her a thicker night robe with a collar which would dissimulate the traces of bites and scarves and mittens. Then we went for the books. Alexej was still looking at Irina heinously and I wouldn’t blame him. She was a real pain. Most of the current literature around was about dragons and magic. There were folklore legends in every corners, drawings of dragons, advice and stories about how to kill them. I took two books which seemed to be the most reliable about the dragons one of them telling even that nobody alive had ever seen one and how to recognise the signs of them around. I wanted to see for myself what it was really about but I was a bit skeptical too. I had Alexej shop for food to carry with us to the North. He seemed happy by the preparation of the trip further. I could see that he didn’t like Krakow too much. We had more food than we needed when he came back and he also had food for the horses as if he didn’t intend to stop at an inn for a long time. I tried to find a book about the men able to change into wolf the inn keeper’s wife had talked about but I only found one which seemed to be pretty biased about telling how terrible they were. We passed through the main place when coming back. The carriage was stopped by the crowd. I told Alexej to wait here and to make sure that Irina wouldn’t get out, he smirked again as if it was his most intense pleasure to make sure she was unhappy.
