About Witch Raising: The Book of Fire

Witch Raising is a new series with Brownie, the heroine of Demon Soul as the main character. This series is part of the House at the Crossing Series and follows Demon Soul and Demon and Fairy but instead of being centered on the adventure of Sahel and his demon friends, it follows Brownie as she goes from being a normal girl to a bad ass witch. She has been practicing magick for a while now, saving people from difficult situations but the people at the house, including Sahel aren't happy with her new calling. Feeling that she doesn't have a choice and has to keep learning witchcraft, Brownie leaves to meet other witches.

The excerpt, we start where we left off last week

The fire stew had mostly nothing to do with fire except for the fact that in was backed in an oven. It was mostly composed of potatoes and cheese with some beef and some sort of raisin juice that had fermented into something winy but not alcoholised yet. It sounded pretty strange. The legend said that at the time when the demons still ruled the earth, there was a maiden who was supposed to be offered to the demons as the yearly sacrificed and that she was a really good cook.
On the night before her sacrifice, she prepared a stew for her parents in an old pot normally used to put wine in the ground until maturation. She had only potatoes to prepare it and water as they were a very poor family. As she added water to the pot, the wine depot on the side which had dried many years over started to turn the water into wine. She thought the potatoes were wasted so she took the pot with her to the demon's cave the next day. It was the first time the Fire Lions appeared. They cooked the demons in their cave and demon flesh felt in the pot, which is now replace by beef because there isn't any demons around. Then for the cheese it apparently just tastes better that way.
Brownie thought it was gross to eat demons it was almost cannibalism, she had never really thought about Sahel or his friends as non-human, except for the wings, they looked exactly like a person so just eating them was terrible. But she had no problem with the beef and even less with the cheese. She didn't remember when was the last time she had eaten something cheesy but it felt like way too long already.
