About Witch Raising: The Book of Fire

Witch Raising is a new series with Brownie, the heroine of Demon Soul as the main character. This series is part of the House at the Crossing Series and follows Demon Soul and Demon and Fairy but instead of being centered on the adventure of Sahel and his demon friends, it follows Brownie as she goes from being a normal girl to a bad ass witch. She has been practicing magick for a while now, saving people from difficult situations but the people at the house, including Sahel aren't happy with her new calling. Feeling that she doesn't have a choice and has to keep learning witchcraft, Brownie leaves to meet other witches.

The excerpt, we start where we left off last week

"What are you trying to do? Find water or something?"
The stone started spinning but this time Brownie wasn't even trying to do anything with it. the thing had a mind of its own, it always had had. And it was good because it had helped her out of danger many times but at the same time she couldn't make it obey either. She looked at the person who had spoken. It was a boy, about her age. He had a very large backpack on his back, which grew high than his blond head. He had intense blue eyes, which seemed very liquid, not really the color you would expect at a fire festival but than again, he wasn't a demon, there was no wings in his back, there were no horns on the top of his head. Brownie wondered when she had learned to check for that first when meeting someone. It was so strange, maybe when Yue had started to get in trouble with other demons. After all, it was more of a survival thing than anything else.
"I'm going to my hostel wanna check if they have some left over?" He asked.
They hadn't even exchanged their name yet.
"I'm fine," Brownie said.
"I guess you're new to all this, right? Run away who don't trust anyone in the street?"
"You guess wrong, I'm not a run away," Brownie said.
In a way she was but she didn't really see it that way. She just had to get out but she was planning to come back when she was done with what she needed to do, when she was done fixing herself. Still run away didn't plan on coming back so that was the difference.
"Well you don't look like a back packer either," the boy said showing off his large back pack.
"I like to travel light," Brownie answered.
"I see, well, I'll be going," he said.
And he move toward the road, and crossed it without really looking at the cars or anything. Brownie looked at the aquamarine again. It had stopped spinning.
"Come on, I'm not following a stranger and I'm not so lost anyway," she said out loud.
She put the aquamarine back around her neck and moved toward the nearby book stand. There were map so she picked up one that listed the hostel. She paid for it and opened it to see which hostel were the closer to the station. One was saying back packers and she stared at it considering. There was a chance it was the same hostel as the guy she had just met mentioned. Maybe she should try there first. If she found it on her own, it wasn't really as if she had followed him or anything. There were three others on the way so she would try those first and just pick the first one.
