Tuesday Travel 2: Witch Raising: The Book of Fire

Welcome to the first Tuesday Travel post. Every Tuesday, I will be presenting an excerpt of Witch Raising: The Book of Fire.

About Witch Raising: The Book of Fire

Witch Raising is a new series with Brownie, the heroine of Demon Soul as the main character. This series is part of the House at the Crossing Series and follows Demon Soul and Demon and Fairy but instead of being centered on the adventure of Sahel and his demon friends, it follows Brownie as she goes from being a normal girl to a bad ass witch. She has been practicing magick for a while now, saving people from difficult situations but the people at the house, including Sahel aren't happy with her new calling. Feeling that she doesn't have a choice and has to keep learning witchcraft, Brownie leaves to meet other witches.

The excerpt, we start where we left off last week

The gentle push of the bright white light all around her vibrated with a buzz. If it was a language, she didn't understand it. She listened but soon all the sound merged as if they had never been there. Could she really see the white light or was it what would happen if she was blind? All her senses seemed to have vanished. She wasn't afraid, if this was death, she knew she would come back, she had come back many time before, she had seen herself in her past lives. If she was to die, maybe she would be reborn in a place where she wouldn't have to fight. But it didn't look like death, she still felt herself breathing. She had trouble with her thoughts passing so quickly, so far away, she wanted to know, she wanted to understand.
“So impatient,” a voice said near her left ear.
She turned her head but there was nobody. The white light was illuminating her from the inside, it was part of her and she could feel the extent of it as if it were a part of her own body. She tried to speak but she couldn't make a sound. She couldn't think of what to say, she couldn't project any wave toward that voice. She was mute.
“If you can't speak maybe all you need to do is listen,” the voice said behind her.
They were toying with her, so she didn't move to check who was there. But that made sense, it was a new environment, she had to learn what it was before she could act. She knew, she couldn't formulate it as a thought but her mind and body seemed to rise in alertness as a response to what she should do. Unformulated thought, when you just react with the highest precision possible, when you make your clearest decision without ever consciously thinking about what you are doing. She had never reached that either, with all her training but now it was there.
