Summary of the previous episodes:
Viorel has been tortured by his
supposed family who wanted to have him burn in the sun. Strangely
enough the sun didn't burn him as expected but Viorel has no memory of
who he is. Following the advises of his supposed father, he left
Sighișoara and is now traveling to the West. After some skirmish in a
previous city, he found refuge on a boat. Viorel is now in Vienna. The
little problem is that the guy at the inn was a bit of an asshole
and helped capture Viorel thinking he was a vampire, which he is but
nobody needs to know. Now there is a huge man (which I call the colossi)
taking care of Viorel and a priest. They brought a girl. Torture my
holy water... Fail. Viorel managed to confuse everyone, now he would
like to get out of here. But the girl seems pretty useless. They still
managed to escape and he left the girl to the care of the boat lady
before going back to have two words with his captors but his power of
persuasion were failing him. The priest wanted to crack a
deal but Viorel is not really up to help his enemies. He finally got
some blood but he can't risk to stay in Vienna. He travel to Linz were
he stays a bit to learn German.
Viorel wanted to go to Praha but redirect himself toward Augsburg
instead where he wants to get a horse, except that the horses are a bit
scared of his vampirism and maybe something else. Viorel is really not a
horse expert. Then he comes into an altercation with couple of people,
he wants some fear in his blood. The girl Viorel has found seemed to
enjoy the game. Viorel prepares for the nightmares that come with a
feast of blood, in a rush to leave, he cross the dukedom of Lorrain.
We introduced Sorina, three weeks after the beginning of Viorel's escape.
Viorel dreamed of Sorina and woke up not really remembering anything.
Traveling to Paris, he arrives at "La cour des miracles". He is rescued
by a stranger who turned out to be Nicolas Flamel, the alchemist he was
looking for. Nicolas does some strange experiment without Viorel's
agreement. Some people are looking for Nicolas's secrets.
On the other side of Europe, Sorina awakes and Viorel's past in haunting him.
Now, let's continue with Vampire Heart, right where we left of last week.
“I
have an appointment to go see the bodies tomorrow morning. They were
looking for witnesses”, Nicolas said. “Two of them only are
strangely mutilated.”
I
knew that I could just walk back to inside and take a rest for
tonight but if he had calmed down, I was still not ready to work with
him again. There was something in his behavior that I couldn’t
trust.
“I’m
going out”, I said.
“There
is no need”, he answered throwing me a suspicious look.
I
didn’t answered an walked away. I needed time for myself away from
him. I needed to think. I decided to go have a look on the scene of
the crime to see if I could find anything referring to vampire. They
hadn’t bothered to move the body after the hunt, it was likely that
they wouldn’t have erased other traces. Now I just have to hope
that the humans discovering the body hadn’t been too messy around
them. There was nothing else I could think of. If it was just me I
would have flown away from the city in the morning and I would have
taken Nicolas and Perenelle with me, dropped them in a house in the
country side and continued my journey alone but there was nothing I
could really do to convince them to leave. Leaving Paris had taken us
almost three years, I knew we didn’t have that much time. If there
were Transylvanian vampire in the city they were my responsibility.
Not taking care of the body last night after feeding had been my
second mistake and I refused to make a third one. I first walked to
the river, the air of midsummer was carrying the smell of the river
and the trees late blooming around it. I had never really noticed the
smell of Praha before tonight. Humans couldn’t distinguish smells
so easily, the new blood flowing in my veins made me more sensitive
to my surrounding and so I found it easily, the track of the murder,
the smell of blood was still hanging in the air becoming stronger as
I walked closer to the place. It was subtle and light mixed with the
polen and the sand the fishermen had moved from the bottom of the
river but it was still there for me to follow. It could have been a
trap but I was too confident to even think about it. According to the
newspaper the body had been found near a bridge, the bridge was now
in sight. The street lamps were being turned on but it didn’t
matter to me much, the blood I had taken had restored my ability to
see in the dark. No matter what Nicolas would say, I would go to hunt
every night from now on, I couldn’t take a chance to be weak if
vampire were around. I needed the strength and comfort of my vampire
powers and most of all I wanted to train myself on thinking straight
while filled with blood. My instincts were developed when I released
the beast but I couldn’t keep on acting rashly. The smell of blood
intensified. That was really peculiar because after a straight kill
like the one from last night, there was nothing left, not a drop of
blood. Either those vampires had a lot of fun with the men before
either he had been fighting back, either he wasn’t alone and in
that case. I took a deep breath, it felt a bit alien to me with the
blood still propagating in me on his own but that was an human habit
I had take up to calm myself down or to stop myself from thinking too
much.
