WeWriWar 149: Rainbow Catcher

Welcome to a new excerpt of Rainbow Catcher for the Weekend Writing Warrior and Snippet Sunday

Now let's go back to our story.

Summary of previous episodes: Clarissa is coughing and wanted to watch Everett Cooper on TV but Jason refused, she is due to get her rainbow the next day but she seems scared, to make her feel better Jason leave the TV on. Clarissa tried to explain about rainbows, she is a big fan of Everett Cooper but Jason is not too sure about it. Clarissa complained about her dialophone but Jason needs to go to work. Before completely leaving he is thinking about getting her her rainbow. We flashed back to the meeting Jason had with a rainbow seller at the black market. Jason left Clarissa's room to go to work. Jason was talking to his boss about the rainbow coming the next day. Jason prepared the money for the rainbow in a sport bag and went to the hospital. The rainbow seller arrived for the delivery.

We start just where we left off last week.

“You’re kidding!”
“Mum said that the only way to make miracles happen is to believe in them, so I really tried,” Clarissa said.
Jason hugged her. All this time, he had no idea that his little sister had been so grown up.
“I’ll bring you a rainbow,” he said feeling strangely relieved.
“It’s not realistic either, you didn’t even repair the dialophone,” she said hugging him back.
“It’s because I know you will sleep with it again,” Jason said defensively.

  1. So believing in miracles has helped her get a rainbow? I feel like I missed something here, but I'm hoping that after all this she manages to get what she needs.

  2. Of course that's the only way to have them happen! Interesting snippet. Love a good back-and-forth dialogue...

  3. I'm with Ed. I feel like I missed something.

  4. Nice little moment, great snippet. I definitely want that purple rainbow too.

  5. Yes, that's the nature of miracles! I like his insight into his sister and really, really hope he gets her rainbow for her.

  7. Neat setting details. I want to know more about rainbows, and what they do in this world.

  8. I do hope he will be about to get her that rainbow. I guess believing it will happen, is almost like praying and having faith. Interesting story.

  9. Well that's one way to put stock in miracles.

  10. I've just jumped in recently so kind of playing catch up but after reading the past few weeks, I really want her to get that rainbow!! I have no idea where she'll put it or what she'll do with it, but it just seems kind of magical :-)

  11. Believing in miracles, beautiful notion.
I think if she can count on anyone, it will be her brother.

  12. Great snippet. I love the relationship these two have.
