WeWriWar 160: Rainbow Catcher

Welcome to a new excerpt of Rainbow Catcher for the Weekend Writing Warrior and Snippet Sunday

Now let's go back to our story.

Summary of previous episodes: Clarissa is coughing and wanted to watch Everett Cooper on TV but Jason refused, she is due to get her rainbow the next day but she seems scared, to make her feel better Jason leave the TV on. Clarissa tried to explain about rainbows, she is a big fan of Everett Cooper but Jason is not too sure about it. Clarissa complained about her dialophone but Jason needs to go to work. Before completely leaving he is thinking about getting her her rainbow. We flashed back to the meeting Jason had with a rainbow seller at the black market. Jason left Clarissa's room to go to work. Jason was talking to his boss about the rainbow coming the next day. Jason prepared the money for the rainbow in a sport bag and went to the hospital. The rainbow seller arrived for the delivery. But it was a scam and Jason prepares to go get the rainbow himself in the desert.

We start just where we left off last week.

“I was thinking you wouldn’t come,” Markus greeted him.
He swept his hands on a towel. Gena always got made if he did it on this trousers, something about manners only, his clothes were always covered in coal dust and grease like pretty much everything else in here, except the clients' cars.
“Sorry, I’m not working tonight, I’m just here to say goodbye,” Jason answered.
Markus had problem to decide if Jason looked more desperate or determined.
“So you are really leaving? It’s crazy, you know. We could go get that guy and...” Markus started.

  1. Desperate AND determined. Here is a man on a mission!

  2. Desperate AND determined. Here is a man on a mission!

  3. could get this guy ... and what? let's hope he finds a rainbow soon.

  4. Hmm, sounds like Jason could get some help if he needed it.

  5. I like that Markus wants to help! Always good to have friends.

  6. I'm wondering why leaving is crazy. I think there's a word missing here: "Markus had problem to decide if Jason looked..."

  7. Uh-oh. I kind of agree with Markus, maybe chasing rainbows is not such a good idea. Maybe he'll be able to help... Great snippet!

  8. He certainly doesn't give up easily, does he?

  9. Oh-oh. I don't know what to think now. Great snippet.

  10. I've missed a few weeks, and it sounds as if something bad has happened. I'm looking forward to find out more.
    Two notes:
Gena always got made (change to mad) if he did it...
Markus had problem to decide if Jason looked... (I'm not sure if you mean Markus had a problem deciding or if Markus had to decide if...)
Great tension in this scene. :)

  11. Markus doesn't seem upset that Jason is quitting with no notice, but then, I think he maybe half expected it.

  12. I wonder what guy he means and what he wants to do. Nice cliffhanger ending. ;-)
