WeWriWar 159: Rainbow Catcher

Welcome to a new excerpt of Rainbow Catcher for the Weekend Writing Warrior and Snippet Sunday

Now let's go back to our story.

Summary of previous episodes: Clarissa is coughing and wanted to watch Everett Cooper on TV but Jason refused, she is due to get her rainbow the next day but she seems scared, to make her feel better Jason leave the TV on. Clarissa tried to explain about rainbows, she is a big fan of Everett Cooper but Jason is not too sure about it. Clarissa complained about her dialophone but Jason needs to go to work. Before completely leaving he is thinking about getting her her rainbow. We flashed back to the meeting Jason had with a rainbow seller at the black market. Jason left Clarissa's room to go to work. Jason was talking to his boss about the rainbow coming the next day. Jason prepared the money for the rainbow in a sport bag and went to the hospital. The rainbow seller arrived for the delivery. But it was a scam and Jason prepares to go get the rainbow himself in the desert.

We start just where we left off last week.

“I’ll let you go just because I don’t want you to become crazy but you can always come back, even without the rainbow.”
“I know,” Jason said.
“You’ll be careful in the desert.”
“I promise.”
“You’ll call me everyday.”
“As often as I can.”
Clarissa was obviously fighting against her sleepiness but she still fell asleep very quickly. Jason pulled the blanket on her shoulders and kisses her forehead before leaving. He was trying to convince himself that this was the right thing to do and that he would see her alive again.

  1. He must be feeling so torn...

  2. He's so tender and loving as he kisses her forehead and tucks her in. Nice scene.

  3. This is so sad. I hope he's successful!

    ~Joyce Scarbrough

  4. I don't see that he has much choice here, since she needs the rainbow. But I admire his emotional struggle. Great snippet.

  5. Oh, so sad. I hope he is successful.

  6. Such a sad scene ... such an awful situation he's in. I hope he'll get the rainbow.

  7. Very nice, emotional scene. Interesting story concept. :-)

  8. Oh so saddening. I can't imagine how desperate and torn he's feeling between finding that rainbow and just staying with her. Such a hard choice. I don't want to see how it would affect him if he failed and came back to find her dead.

  9. Heartbreaking, he is trying so hard to get her what she needs and now he worries about seeing her alive again.
