Thursday Fiction 238: Parallel Slip

Welcome back to a new part of Parallel Slip, where we follow the adventures of Frederique through her slip in different parallel universes.

Let's start right where we left off last week.

"Yes," I said, "There is another pilot on board and I will use her in case of extreme necessity only. She has been on board as cleaning crew for months now, and there is no way to determine at this stage how the lack of practice has affected her skill. As for the young women driving at the moment, then have proven time and times again that they could handle a lot more than any of us could. They can calculate the direction of the ship with accuracy, they can balance everything between the asteroids and they have been doing all along a fantastic team work even when we are too busy sleeping. I think we should be grateful to have such pilots taking us to Antares."

There was more whispering. Tucker was smiling. I didn't like his smile. He had perfectly aligned little teeth like a shark hiding behind a prefect smile with arrogance written all over his face. He was making me nervous. He seemed so sure of his win, he seemed so sure to be right and that I was a big failure as a captain or didn't even deserve to be here as a human being I wanted to smash his face.

"Captain, you talked about sabotage, do you have proof?"

"The second engine room was cleaned up of evidences before I could have a look at it but I had a testimony which has been brought to the council and I noticed that there was no electrical hazard in the area where the damages have been the worse. As far as I can say, it's only suspicions but there is still a high probability that it was a sabotage," I said.

I don't think I was clear enough. I wanted at Tucker and yell "he did it" but that wasn't going to work. This might as well be my downfall. I just hope they wouldn't start suspecting each other.

"Captain, why is there a pilot hired as a clean member?"

I could hear them talk and agree on the question.

"Well that's a very good question indeed. Maybe Tucker should be answering that. He has hired a part of his crew to do very strange task. A few months ago, I rehabilitate part of this member to their rightful places as I thought they might be of help. However, I never had a used for his pilot."

Wednesday Snippet 240: Blue Angel

Welcome to a new part of Blue Angel unedited, we start right where we left off last time.

When the yelling and cheering stopped, one angel decided to ask the right question and Isakael wasn't surprise to turn around and see the one who had come talk to him on his first day arrival.

“How are we supposed to go look for her in the demon world when so many angels have been missing for entering it?”

Another wave of agreement passed in the crowd as if the angels finally understood something they didn't want to see few minutes earlier. The difficulty of finding someone who doesn't want to be found in a place where they weren't welcome.

Isakael turned back quickly to look at the platform where Ezechiel's smile didn't disappear, he wanted to move away from the guy behind him as fast as possible, he could have an effect on his wings and Isakael couldn't let this happen just now.

“I know that the rumor has spread that angels have disappeared in the Demon World and that their souls didn't come back but the permanent council members are doing their best to go through the meaning of it all and to deal with the demons,” Ezechiel said. “Going to the Demon World has always been a difficult and dangerous task for us, as there is no way for us to disguise but this doesn't mean it cannot be done and that we can't provide valuable information on the whereabout of angel second class Jezabel. One of the particularity of this angel is that she cure anyone on her way. No matter where she goes you will hear of her curing people around, you only have to open your ears and follow the lead.”

Tuesday Travel 29: Witch Raising: The Book of Fire

Welcome to Tuesday Travel. Every Tuesday, I will be presenting an excerpt of Witch Raising: The Book of Fire, the book in which Brownie, the heroine of Demon Soul, is undertaking an initiatory journey.

About Witch Raising: The Book of Fire

Witch Raising is a new series with Brownie, the heroine of Demon Soul as the main character. This series is part of the House at the Crossing Series and follows Demon Soul and Demon and Fairy but instead of being centered on the adventure of Sahel and his demon friends, it follows Brownie as she goes from being a normal girl to a bad ass witch. She has been practicing magick for a while now, saving people from difficult situations but the people at the house, including Sahel aren't happy with her new calling. Feeling that she doesn't have a choice and has to keep learning witchcraft, Brownie leaves to meet other witches.

The excerpt, we start where we left off last week   

“So how are you going there?” Dylan asked.

Viorel gave her a pointed look and shook his head even so slightly. Maybe even saying Erhland had been a bad idea.

“I'll take the bus, I have some money for the ride,” Brownie said.

Dylan turned around and opened a closet, he started throwing things out.

Viorel rose an eyebrow.

“Do you know what will happen when you get there?” Viorel asked.

“No, I don't even really know if there is still a coven there. All I know is what I saw in my dreams. Is it contemporary, or past or future? I don't know, all I know is that I can't stay here and hope of answers to find me. I have to go look for them, either it will be a memory triggered, or a dream or a place or people, I really don't know. Just anything is better than what's going on with me just now.” Brownie said.

“I can understand that,” Dylan said from the closet.

“You'll have to put all that back in later,” Viorel said then he turned back to Brownie and passed a hand in his short white hair.

“I can't help you find the answer here, that's for sure, you just have to make sure that when you finally find an answer, you'll accept it and come back, even if it isn't what you imagine it would be,” Viorel said. “I ran after answers for a long time and I know for a fact that the real one are just real and true and they aren't designed to help or make you comfortable, they just are what they are.”

“I know,” Brownie said.

“What I mean is, if the answer is that Sahel is right and that you need to stop magic all together and go through a detox, you need to prepare yourself to do just that.”

Brownie smiled.

“That might not even be so disagreeable,” she said.

Mystery Monday 29: Harajuku Kiss

About Harajuku Kiss

At times, life can be so depressing. She is walking her usual recovery tour in Harajuku, finishing with a crepe, trying to forget that her boyfriend dumped her once again for the week-end... When the unthinkable happens... A boy stops in front of her in the street and kisses her, in the middle of the street, before running away.

Trying to discover more about him, she is dragged into a dangerous game of mystery. A biologist has been murdered and a deadly virus is on the loose. First suspect: the mysterious Harajuku's stranger.

Here is the snippet for this week

Considering the facts, I didn't need my brain to get me out of this situation and what awaited me was unimaginable. But I did imagine it and I hoped for it and waited all my life… almost. That kind of thing only happens in movies. You read about them in books but when you stand in front of it, it seems unreal and impossible, it’s a sensation out of this world. Or maybe I was just out of my mind.

You know, we are supposed to be prepared for those kinds of things. The real life things, I’m not saying, they are so basic that nobody ever prepares for it. I mean what girl would need preparation for the guy at the back of the classroom who has been looking at her for a entire month without saying anything. Of course, she knows that he likes her because the entire class does. So she also starts liking him. Because girls are like that. If you show some interests to a girl even a tiny bit - it’s actually better a tiny bit - long enough, you can be sure that she will start liking you like crazy, even though she was not interested in the first place. It’s just a psychological game. Once the situation becomes unbearable for the girl and she stands up and drop the guy a note and he tells her he doesn’t like her. Who needs preparation for that? Nobody.
