Tuesday Travel 11: Witch Raising: The Book of Fire

Welcome to the first Tuesday Travel post. Every Tuesday, I will be presenting an excerpt of Witch Raising: The Book of Fire.

About Witch Raising: The Book of Fire

Witch Raising is a new series with Brownie, the heroine of Demon Soul as the main character. This series is part of the House at the Crossing Series and follows Demon Soul and Demon and Fairy but instead of being centered on the adventure of Sahel and his demon friends, it follows Brownie as she goes from being a normal girl to a bad ass witch. She has been practicing magick for a while now, saving people from difficult situations but the people at the house, including Sahel aren't happy with her new calling. Feeling that she doesn't have a choice and has to keep learning witchcraft, Brownie leaves to meet other witches.

The excerpt, we start where we left off last week

She remembered all the time when she had prepared him breakfast when he wasn't feeling one hundred percent in own self, how many times she had prepared dinner for him and his friends when he was coming back from who knows where and felt depleted. Yes, she wanted to do it, to make him happy but that was part of the problem, she expected something in return, like a cup of warm tea on the table, some waffle or some pancakes too maybe. The butter and the jam to be out. Of course he had done it before but somehow she wanted it now too. The bread jumped in the toaster and she put it on her plate using the tip of her fingers. It was so hot she almost dropped the second one. “Are you ok?”
“Fine,” she answered.
She added water in the empty boiler and put a bag of mind tea with two spoonful of sugar in her cup. Hitomi would frown at her if she was here seeing that.
“The sugar is going to be absorbed by the bag you need to put it after the water”, she would say, but today, Brownie didn't really care. She debated with herself a bit longer considering if she needed extra sweetness but decided against. She might try to find some waffle batter though, she was famish.
No food for three days meant she could probably eat anything she wanted. She went to the fridge and looked for extra batter, there was always pots in there so that they didn't need to make it in the morning and wait for it to raise before breakfast.
“Do you need help?” Sahel asked.

Mystery Monday 11: Harajuku Kiss

Welcome Mystery Monday. For this weekly writing blog post, I will be presenting snippets of my novel Harajuku Kiss, a mystery romance in Japan.
I hope you'll enjoy following our heroine through her thoughts and adventures.

About Harajuku Kiss

At times, life can be so depressing. She is walking her usual recovery tour in Harajuku, finishing with a crepe, trying to forget that her boyfriend dumped her once again for the week-end... When the unthinkable happens... A boy stops in front of her in the street and kisses her, in the middle of the street, before running away.
Trying to discover more about him, she is dragged into a dangerous game of mystery. A biologist has been murdered and a deadly virus is on the loose. First suspect: the mysterious Harajuku's stranger.

Here is the snippet for this week

“You’ll have to burn your shirt when you get back,” he said.

The other one laughed, he didn't mind getting a bit dirty. He kicked Kaji’s chair which fell on the side with a dull sound. The shock sent a wave of pain through Kaji's body. His head hit the ground and blood leaked from his ear. Kaji didn't move, he didn't feel himself breath anymore.

The first man pushed the chair with his foot, to turn Kaji on his back. The blood flow intensified, red and dark. Kaji still didn't move, his body felt like it had been changed into stone.

WeWriWar 284: Demon Soul

Welcome to a new excerpt of DEMON SOUL for the Weekend Writing Warrior and Snippet Sunday

Pre-Plot:
Brownie is a normal girl, or so she thinks. She likes to chat with her sisters about random things, she likes fashion and she is member of the fashion club at school. But one day, as her little brother gets really sick because of a curse placed on him, she meets this really strange guy who cures him absorbing the baby's sickness within himself. As he is about to fall from his new acquired fever, Brownie sees Yue's soul and immediately falls in love with him. But Yue is not a human, Yue is a demon.
Brownie and Yue will built their love story until....

Plot:
Until Yue's soul is stolen. There is nothing left of their love. The purple light dancing in Yue's grey eyes is gone. Forever? Not quite. Brownie is desperate to find it back. And to get a soul stolen by demons, she needs to go deep into dark magic! But Brownie is not a witch, she is just looking for a spell powerful enough to bring her love back. When an amateur starts playing with strong magic without preparation and without caring for the consequences, things turn wrong...

Let's start right where we left off last week!

“There is nothing you can do with those two together,” the witch said.
“Nothing you know of,” Brownie answered finding strength she wouldn’t have ever thought herself capable of. She paid for the items, buried them into the only pocket of her coat free from fish pieces, and went out of the shop as fast as she could without running.

Brownie looked up at the end of the path, she was almost there. She walked carefully not to collide with drunken demons coming out bars, finding the distance towards the end of the street terribly long. She reached it without problem and ran through the city centre without looking back.

She stopped, out of breath half way, before she reached her house, still clenching her fist around the aquamarine stone in her pocket.

Vampire Friday: Vampire Heart 225

Welcome to a new part of Vampire Heart unedited. Have you been bitten yet? Sign up to be part of our awesome Vampire Friday blog hop team! You know you want to!

Summary of the previous episodes: Viorel has been tortured by his supposed family who wanted to have him burn in the sun. Strangely enough the sun didn't burn him as expected but Viorel has no memory of who he is. Following the advises of his supposed father, he left Sighișoara and is now traveling to the West. After some skirmish in a previous city, he found refuge on a boat. Viorel is now in Vienna. The little problem is that the guy at the inn was a bit of an asshole and helped capture Viorel thinking he was a vampire, which he is but nobody needs to know. Now there is a huge man (which I call the colossi) taking care of Viorel and a priest. They brought a girl. Torture my holy water... Fail. Viorel managed to confuse everyone, now he would like to get out of here. But the girl seems pretty useless. They still managed to escape and he left the girl to the care of the boat lady before going back to have two words with his captors but his power of persuasion were failing him. The priest wanted to crack a deal but Viorel is not really up to help his enemies. He finally got some blood but he can't risk to stay in Vienna. He travel to Linz were he stays a bit to learn German.
Viorel wanted to go to Praha but redirect himself toward Augsburg instead where he wants to get a horse, except that the horses are a bit scared of his vampirism and maybe something else. Viorel is really not a horse expert. Then he comes into an altercation with couple of people, he wants some fear in his blood. The girl Viorel has found seemed to enjoy the game. Viorel prepares for the nightmares that come with a feast of blood, in a rush to leave, he cross the dukedom of Lorrain.
We introduced Sorina, three weeks after the beginning of Viorel's escape.
Viorel dreamed of Sorina and woke up not really remembering anything. Traveling to Paris, he arrives at "La cour des miracles". He is rescued by a stranger who turned out to be Nicolas Flamel, the alchemist he was looking for. Nicolas does some strange experiment without Viorel's agreement. Some people are looking for Nicolas's secrets. On the other side of Europe, Sorina awakes and Viorel's past in haunting him. Viorel discovered that he can change into a wolf but that's not the easiest thing to handle. After finding out that a younger version of Nicolas might not be acting with his best interest at heart, Viorel decides to leave for the north. He is now traveling with two people, Alexej who needed to get out of Praha and Irina who he accidentally rescued.
Now, let's continue with Vampire Heart, right where we left off last week.

When looking at her I was still amazed by her knowledge, she could read and reading was definitely powers. I regretted not having spent more time to fully master Czech, I could have read Nicolas’ newspaper. I could have known that.
I was going to answer when the carriage suddenly stopped.
“Let’s start tomorrow,” I said looking through the window. We were at the entrance of a town and it seemed that carriages were unable to advance any further.
“Why not tonight?” she asked.
“I thought you might want to relax and take a bath,” I said.
She couldn’t hide a bright smile but her face turned back to seriousness really quickly.
“Thank you,” she said looking back through her window.
She was smiling again but couldn’t let herself to show it to me. That was another interesting reaction.
I opened the trap between me and Alexej again.
“What’s happening out there?” I asked.
“There are searching the carriage, you know about the beast of Praha, they think it might be hiding and trying to get away as nothing had happened in a while,” he said.
I knew that the vampires were dead for sure but I was under the impression that Alexej was talking about something else, the strangely mutilated body I had seen when visiting the morgue was Nicolas. I closed the trap without answering, made sure to pack the diaries and books carefully before opening the door.
“You’re not afraid to be caught,” Irina whispered jokingly.
I wasn’t in the mood to play but I felt it was better for me to go her way.
“It wasn’t me this time, unfortunately,” I answered winking at her.
