Vlog #1: On the danger of doll making and eye "surgery"

I've been wanting to do some vlogging for a while. I might or not be doll related. I don't really have a concept yet but seeing what happened yesterday I thought it would be a good idea to start today.

I managed to get something stuck in my cornea. For those of you who don't know what a cornea is, it's the clear film that you have on top on your eye to protect it. The most sensitive part of the cornea is the one over the pupil and that's where I got what I believe to be a particle powder of dry pastel stuck.
I tried to rinse my eyes and rub it to get the particle out but nothing would make it move and it was very painful. Like if you want to imagine the pain, it was like when you go to the swimming pool and you don't have googles and they put so much chlorine that your eyes get super sore and dry, then imagine a paper cut on your finger but put it inside of your eye. That's how bad it was yesterday and it's still sort of like that now, it's just hard to look fixedly at something.

So we went to the hospital but the first hospital couldn't do anything to remove the white thing from my eye and we had to go to a second one. Then my eye was anesthetized and the doctor cleaned it up with some tools removing the white particle from my cornea. Now my eye is going to be sore for a while until the cornea heal itself.

If I have an advice for all of you out there who are going to start making some dolls and using dry pastel as a powder like I do, it's to please wear glasses at all time, because those things are so volatile and if they stay stuck in your eyes it can be damaging.

WeWriWar 169: Rainbow Catcher

Welcome to a new excerpt of Rainbow Catcher for the Weekend Writing Warrior and Snippet Sunday

Now let's go back to our story.

Summary of previous episodes: Clarissa is coughing and wanted to watch Everett Cooper on TV but Jason refused, she is due to get her rainbow the next day but she seems scared, to make her feel better Jason leave the TV on. Clarissa tried to explain about rainbows, she is a big fan of Everett Cooper but Jason is not too sure about it. Clarissa complained about her dialophone but Jason needs to go to work. Before completely leaving he is thinking about getting her her rainbow. We flashed back to the meeting Jason had with a rainbow seller at the black market. Jason left Clarissa's room to go to work. Jason was talking to his boss about the rainbow coming the next day. Jason prepared the money for the rainbow in a sport bag and went to the hospital. The rainbow seller arrived for the delivery. But it was a scam and Jason prepares to go get the rainbow himself in the desert. Markus has a last surprise for him.

We start just where we left off last week.

“Kid, I’ll give you money for the bus,” Gena interrupted him taking her purse out.
“Give him money for food,” Markus said not even bothering looking at her.
He went back to his explanation.
“First, when you leave the bike alone, even for few seconds, you remove it, it’s the only way to make sure the bike won’t get stolen. The bike will start without it, but it won’t go far if anyone tries to break into the key lock without the moon catcher. Second, you have to clean it really often. The desert sand would be the end of it, there are twenty spikes. You need to make sure they all go out properly at the slightest pressure of those corner,” Markus said pressing and letting go of the moon catcher’s corners making the spikes appear and disappear several times. “If they don’t, you’ll lose half of the power.”

Vampire Friday: Vampire Heart 83

Welcome to a new part of Vampire Heart unedited. Have you been bitten yet?
Sign up to be part of our awesome Vampire Friday blog hop team! You know you want to!

Summary of the previous episodes: Viorel has been tortured by his supposed family who wanted to have him burn in the sun. Strangely enough the sun didn't burn him as expected but Viorel has no memory of who he is. Following the advises of his supposed father, he left Sighișoara and is now traveling to the West. After some skirmish in a previous city, he found refuge on a boat. Viorel is now in Vienna. The little problem is that the guy at the inn was a bit of an asshole and helped capture Viorel thinking he was a vampire, which he is but nobody needs to know. Now there is a huge man (which I call the colossi) taking care of Viorel and a priest. They brought a girl. Torture my holy water... Fail. Viorel managed to confuse everyone, now he would like to get out of here. But the girl seems pretty useless. They still managed to escape and he left the girl to the care of the boat lady before going back to have two words with his captors but his power of persuasion were failing him. The priest wanted to crack a deal but Viorel is not really up to help his enemies. He finally got some blood but he can't risk to stay in Vienna. He travel to Linz were he stays a bit to learn German.
Viorel wanted to go to Praha but redirect himself toward Augsburg instead where he wants to get a horse, except that the horses are a bit scared of his vampirism and maybe something else. Viorel is really not a horse expert. Then he comes into an altercation with couple of people, he wants some fear in his blood. The girl Viorel has found seemed to enjoy the game. Viorel prepares for the nightmares that come with a feast of blood, in a rush to leave, he cross the dukedom of Lorrain.
We introduced Sorina, three weeks after the beginning of Viorel's escape.
Viorel dreamed of Sorina and woke up not really remembering anything. Traveling to Paris, he arrives at "La cour des miracles". He is rescued by a stranger who turned out to be Nicolas Flamel, the alchemist he was looking for. Nicolas does some strange experiment without Viorel's agreement. Some people are looking for Nicolas's secrets. On the other side of Europe, Sorina awakes and Viorel's past in haunting him.

Now, let's continue with Vampire Heart, right where we left of last week.

The snow started to fall again. I hide deeper in my coat walking toward the church. At that time of the year the only people still out where either drinking at a bar to stay warm or faithfully praying in the church. I generally choose to take someone walking out of church and I had several good reasons for that. I didn’t like the taste of alcohol in the blood that much. For some reasons I couldn’t understood it was making me want to throw up and giving me headache in the morning. The people at the bar were generally up to look for each other of one of them went missing for too long. If I wasn’t done with drinking yet that could cause a lot of trouble for nothing, and more alcohol-filled blood to drink. Taking someone out of church was simple. People were generally going there with their family so lonely people were easy to figure out. If someone alone disappeared nobody would care for few days and that way the traces of the body would have disappeared probably half eaten by rats or dogs, if not by so desperately famished human. I had something against church and I really thought I could. Perenelle and Nicolas were going there all the time which was not making them bad person. They knew better than to judge me by the only fact that I was a vampire but for the rest of them that was another story. I had been raised in the fear of the church as it would never accept people like me, depriving us from even having a soul or being able to feel sentiments like any human would. We were not human but we still could resonate and do even better than what any human would do. The only problem was that we were considered so powerful that such a power was said to come from evil. My question was: how did they know? What prove did they have to kick me out of their group like that and want to kill me for just being myself? Also my interaction with the only priest I ever met did end up with a blood bath and I truly believe that by killing someone who worships only that kind of god I was really doing something good for the world.
I saw that woman walking at alone, she was wearing a long blue coat that I could easily have found beautiful on Sorina and she was crying. I wasn’t moved by the tears, I just wondered what they could have told her in that place to make her cry like that. I wasn’t entering in such places, just to make sure that the roof hold by their god wasn’t going to fall on my head.

Pullip photo story: Book review of Bottled by Carol Riggs (with video)

Bottled is a book by Carol Riggs.
You  can also read my review on amazon or on goodreads.

Bottled is the 1000 years love story of Adeelah, captured and bottled as a genie to serve the purpose of the greediest master on the planet.
She moves from masters to master as her bottle is lost and found, hunted for and kept hidden.
Adeelah dreams of finding her true love, Karim, who has been looking for her bottle all that time. She can't do anything for herself unless her master agrees. She is trapped and slaved. Then one day, she arrives at an Antique store.

This book was a very interesting read, filled with magic and bizarre ideas. Adeelah is a very realistic character. She is so trapped that she become obsessed with the only thing she associate with a time in her life when she was happy, Karim. Even after 1000 years apart, her only wish is to find him. While she grants often against her will the wishes of others, she can't go look for Karim unless her master agrees.
I loved the complexity of the characters, they are very human even though at time, Nathan was just too good, David too evil and Adeelah just frustrated with everything. The good thing is that they learn and grow and has a reader we can see their evolution as the story unfold.

I absolutely loved how Adeelah was able to adapt (or not) to her new place. The language barrier was so funny at time as well as her reaction to new technology. It made the entire story even more palpable and realistic.
I hated Karim on first sight. Sorry Adeelah but what the hell! *I'm not going to say more or I'll have a spoiling rant about the guy.* If you want to see why I hate him so much you'll have to read the book. It's totally worth it!

This is my second book review video and my first book review in this format. It was a lot of fun to make and I loved to play with my dolls to make the slow motion part of the story.
