Mystery Monday 238: Murder at the Conference 135

Hello mystery lovers and welcome to a new Mystery Monday.
I hope you had a great week-end. Here is a new little part of Murder at the Conference. Murder at the Conference is a stand alone sequel to Harajuku Kiss.

We start right were we left off last week:

“Deborah, this is Christa and Ryuichi,” I said. “Guys, this is Deborah from Germany, she is doing experiments.”

“You always know everybody,” Deborah said.

“It's not too hard, they are from my lab,” I answered.

When I first met Deborah, I was in Germany doing anything but physics. I was taking care of kids as an au-pair for the summer and she lived next door. One day, she had knocked at the door to tell me to stop playing the piano because she couldn't study with all that noise. I wasn't very good at the piano, I'm still not, I stopped the lessons too young and started back again too old and too irregularly.

They had a deal about the piano playing time which I wasn't aware of, I guessed nobody expected me to play while the children were at school. So she explained it to me, all high speed in German and all I could really understand was that I was bothering her and that she was studying physics. I had to make her slow down a bit but we ended up both sitting at her parent's kitchen table with a glass of cold green tea in front of an electromagnetic problem. So far so good for my summer break.

Vampire Friday: Vampire Heart 452

Welcome to a new part of Vampire Heart unedited. Have you been bitten yet?

Summary of the previous episodes: Viorel has been tortured by his supposed family who wanted to have him burn in the sun. Strangely enough the sun didn't burn him as expected but Viorel has no memory of who he is. Following the advises of his supposed father, he left Sighișoara and is now traveling to the West. After some skirmish in a previous city, he found refuge on a boat. Viorel is now in Vienna. The little problem is that the guy at the inn was a bit of an asshole and helped capture Viorel thinking he was a vampire, which he is but nobody needs to know. Now there is a huge man (which I call the colossi) taking care of Viorel and a priest. They brought a girl. Torture my holy water... Fail. Viorel managed to confuse everyone, now he would like to get out of here. But the girl seems pretty useless. They still managed to escape and he left the girl to the care of the boat lady before going back to have two words with his captors but his power of persuasion were failing him. The priest wanted to crack a deal but Viorel is not really up to help his enemies. He finally got some blood but he can't risk to stay in Vienna. He travel to Linz were he stays a bit to learn German.
Viorel wanted to go to Praha but redirect himself toward Augsburg instead where he wants to get a horse, except that the horses are a bit scared of his vampirism and maybe something else. Viorel is really not a horse expert. Then he comes into an altercation with couple of people, he wants some fear in his blood. The girl Viorel has found seemed to enjoy the game. Viorel prepares for the nightmares that come with a feast of blood, in a rush to leave, he cross the dukedom of Lorrain.
We introduced Sorina, three weeks after the beginning of Viorel's escape.
Viorel dreamed of Sorina and woke up not really remembering anything. Traveling to Paris, he arrives at "La cour des miracles". He is rescued by a stranger who turned out to be Nicolas Flamel, the alchemist he was looking for. Nicolas does some strange experiment without Viorel's agreement. Some people are looking for Nicolas's secrets. On the other side of Europe, Sorina awakes and Viorel's past in haunting him. Viorel discovered that he can change into a wolf but that's not the easiest thing to handle. After finding out that a younger version of Nicolas might not be acting with his best interest at heart, Viorel decides to leave for the north. He is now traveling with two people, Alexej who needed to get out of Praha and Irina who he accidentally rescued.

Now, let's continue with Vampire Heart, right where we left off last time.

I turned to the closet and pushed the door open with my nose. Irina threw me a pillow and pulled herself as far way from the door as she could which basically meant only to have her head facing the wall. That was cute. I just stayed there to look at her until she dared to open her eyes again.

"Viorel?" she asked.

She had seen me in a wolf shape before but maybe not enough to recognize me as a wolf in the darkness of the room, with the blood and everything. I sat down and she hugged me. I couldn't talk to her in this shape. So I barked to get her to let me go. She walked out of the closet and she surprised me. She pushed the table in front of the door and blocked the handle.

"You gotta go out and I don't want anyone in," she said looking at me. "Just go, I'm fine but we'll need to talk when you get back."

Thursday Fiction 442: Parallel Slip 2: Rebel

Welcome back to a new Thursday Fiction, it's been a while. We continue with Parallel Slip 2: Rebel where we left of last time, following Isabelle as she figure out who she really is.

Isabelle needed answers a lot more than she had imagined and she also needed to trust herself enough to make a decision about staying here or leaving.

“All done,” Eric said. “It's like you've never been here.”

He smiled at her but for some reason it sounded a lot more creepy than reassuring. If nobody could find her, whatever happened to her didn't matter, nobody would ever help her if she needed to.

“Come with me, I'll show you the entrance to your hiding place.”

Isabelle stood up easily, with the food in she already felt better.

“See that chest here,” Eric said kneeling next to a large wooden coffer. It seemed very old and heavy.

Wednesday Snippet 444: Fairy World 85

Welcome back to Wednesday Snippet. This week, we continue with Fairy World unedited just where we left off last week

For all answer, the clouds turned black and light flickered.

"I guess not," Brownie said. So the ring was feeling betrayed because Seti was the one who left. Then there was only one choice left. Brownie gathered all the strength she could master and all the love in her heart .

"Sahel!" She called. "Sahel!" She called even louder.

The clouds split, in one direction with a ray of sunshine. That was her sign to find her way out of this maze. She hoped Kallisto and Seti would see it too and follow it. She only needed patience now. She started walking again.

The sky was becoming clearer the further she walked and the trees gained red and yellow leaves. It was like going back in time, the seasons were reversed. It started in the winter and then it was fall. It was like going back to the beginning, before everything was broken. Brownie wondered if that was the right thing to do, to get back to the point where things had turned wrong.

She was scared. Things had turned wrong for her when Yue's soul had been stolen and he had left her. Somehow everything had changed but if she reached that point where Yue's soul wasn't stolen, Sahel wouldn't exist, everything would be different. The fear gripped on her heart and the sky darkened again.
