Mystery Monday 170: Murder at the Conference 67

Hello and welcome to a new Mystery Monday.

I hope you had a great week-end. Here is a new little part of Murder at the Conference. Murder at the Conference is a stand alone sequel to Harajuku Kiss.

We start right were we left off last week:

“There will be people speaking English at the conference. Everybody there will be researchers or research related, they all read and write papers in English, there is no reason for us to know any Chinese.”

My heart was beating faster. Somehow she was digging into all of my fears. I was used to travel but I had been in Japan for so long now that I had forgotten the feeling and it was somehow replaced by fear. If people had tried to kidnap me here, they could try anywhere and I could just disappear and never come back.

“I know you just thing that because Chinese students here humor you and pretend to understand you when you speak Chinese but in China it's not going to be the same.”

“I'll be fine, I can ask for direction and understand some food,” I said.

“You're delusional, you can't speak Chinese, not for real anyway, it won't take you anywhere, we talked about it last night how even our supervisor is counting on you for not getting lost, that's ridiculous.”

About Harajuku Kiss

A biologist has been murdered and a deadly virus is on the loose. First suspect: the mysterious Harajuku's stranger.

Vampire Friday: Vampire Heart 385

Welcome to a new part of Vampire Heart unedited. Have you been bitten yet?

Summary of the previous episodes: Viorel has been tortured by his supposed family who wanted to have him burn in the sun. Strangely enough the sun didn't burn him as expected but Viorel has no memory of who he is. Following the advises of his supposed father, he left Sighișoara and is now traveling to the West. After some skirmish in a previous city, he found refuge on a boat. Viorel is now in Vienna. The little problem is that the guy at the inn was a bit of an asshole and helped capture Viorel thinking he was a vampire, which he is but nobody needs to know. Now there is a huge man (which I call the colossi) taking care of Viorel and a priest. They brought a girl. Torture my holy water... Fail. Viorel managed to confuse everyone, now he would like to get out of here. But the girl seems pretty useless. They still managed to escape and he left the girl to the care of the boat lady before going back to have two words with his captors but his power of persuasion were failing him. The priest wanted to crack a deal but Viorel is not really up to help his enemies. He finally got some blood but he can't risk to stay in Vienna. He travel to Linz were he stays a bit to learn German.
Viorel wanted to go to Praha but redirect himself toward Augsburg instead where he wants to get a horse, except that the horses are a bit scared of his vampirism and maybe something else. Viorel is really not a horse expert. Then he comes into an altercation with couple of people, he wants some fear in his blood. The girl Viorel has found seemed to enjoy the game. Viorel prepares for the nightmares that come with a feast of blood, in a rush to leave, he cross the dukedom of Lorrain.
We introduced Sorina, three weeks after the beginning of Viorel's escape.
Viorel dreamed of Sorina and woke up not really remembering anything. Traveling to Paris, he arrives at "La cour des miracles". He is rescued by a stranger who turned out to be Nicolas Flamel, the alchemist he was looking for. Nicolas does some strange experiment without Viorel's agreement. Some people are looking for Nicolas's secrets. On the other side of Europe, Sorina awakes and Viorel's past in haunting him. Viorel discovered that he can change into a wolf but that's not the easiest thing to handle. After finding out that a younger version of Nicolas might not be acting with his best interest at heart, Viorel decides to leave for the north. He is now traveling with two people, Alexej who needed to get out of Praha and Irina who he accidentally rescued.

Now, let's continue with Vampire Heart, right where we left off last time.

I sat on the floor and closed my eyes. I needed to feel back the strength the blood had given me. That was my only way out, to be strong when they were going to come and get me. I still couldn't figure out what happened to me. I should have gone into trance but I hadn't, I had just blacked out.

Alexej seemed to be calming down but that wasn't going to last. Peace in prison never last. I had been in this situation before. It suddenly felt like an eternity. Me and Sorina, captured, tortured, for what? Because I was different. It was always their reasons. They didn't trust me because my mother wasn't one of them. Even if they raised me, even if I had proven myself to them so many times, they never trusted me. And the truth hit me. I have to be who I am, not to please anyone, not because my father had sent me on a quest, not because I was supposed to have some family in the north, not because Nicolas had hopes in the things I could do for science and alchemy, but for myself. I had to be myself for me, because there was never anyone who was going to stick around for me without expecting something in return, something that I might never be able to give. Just like I had never been able to gain the trust of the vampires. But I was here, running away from them, and maybe, just maybe, they were right not to trust me.

Thursday Fiction 374: Parallel Slip 2: Rebel

Welcome back to a new Thursday Fiction, it's been a while. We continue with Parallel Slip 2: Rebel where we left of last time, following Isabelle as she figure out who she really is.

“And there is nothing I can do about it,” Isabelle said.

“There is everything you can do about it,” Romulus said.

“If they want me to be out of the game, my mother only has to declare me inept and keep the surveillance on me and there is nothing I can do to prove myself. She never wanted me, I was never good enough for her, she will never listen and...”

Isabelle stopped pale and shut her eyes.

“She's here,” she muttered. “I have to go.”

“Wait, Isabelle we need to...”

“She is gone,” Clara answered.

Wednesday Snippet 376: Fairy World 17

Welcome back to Wednesday Snippet. This week, we continue with Fairy World unedited just where we left off last week

"That hurts," Isakael said touching his cheek before realising the demon was in front of him.

Azazel smirked.

"You're welcome!"

He placed his hands behind his head and walked away back to Sahel who was attaching himself to the other too.

"Your turn Az," he said.

"I don't think so," Azazel answered sticking himself with the needles. "I'll walk next to you if you want but I'm not tethering myself with that crowed when I have no clue what else is waiting for me in this place."

And this marks the end of out adventure in the Fairy World forest, for now, next week, we'll meet new characters.
