Tuesday Travel 88: Witch Raising: The Book of Fire

Welcome to Tuesday Travel. Every Tuesday, I will be presenting an excerpt of Witch Raising: The Book of Fire, the book in which Brownie, the heroine of Demon Soul, is undertaking an initiatory journey.

About Witch Raising: The Book of Fire

Witch Raising is a new series with Brownie, the heroine of Demon Soul as the main character. This series is part of the House at the Crossing Series and follows Demon Soul and Demon and Fairy but instead of being centered on the adventure of Sahel and his demon friends, it follows Brownie as she goes from being a normal girl to a bad ass witch. She has been practicing magick for a while now, saving people from difficult situations but the people at the house, including Sahel aren't happy with her new calling. Feeling that she doesn't have a choice and has to keep learning witchcraft, Brownie leaves to meet other witches.

The excerpt, we start where we left off last week

The stairs seemed to get sharper and sharper as they came closer to the top. The trees Josh believed were covering the mountains where non-existent. There was no shadow and it felt like they were flying straight to the sun like Icarus except for the heaviness in Brownie's legs. The mountain side was covered with small bushes with no leaves, just wood, spikes and thorns everywhere. People walking too close to the side of the stairs would scratch themselves on the bushes or their clothes would stay stuck. It was a strange landscape. There weren't even dead leaves on the ground and Brownie wondered if all those bushes were actually dead and how they had managed to grow in the desert in the first place.

They reached the four hundred mark and Josh decided to sit on the stairs. Samantha was looking at him with hands on her hips in position akimbo.

"We can't stop now," she said.

"We can, we totally can, you just don't want to which is fine by me, just go ahead, I'm hungry and I'm eating something and sitting while doing it," Josh said.

Brownie looked at Samantha and their eyes met each other as if for a secret message.

"Fine," Samantha said. "But just a few minutes, we don't want to be late to the shrine up there."

"Sure," Josh said opening his bag again for some food from the bakery.

Brownie got a raisin bread that had already started to dry on the side or maybe she was imagining that because it was so hot. She could feel the sun on her neck and at the back of her head and it seemed that if she ever touched her dark hair she would burn herself.

Mystery Monday 91: Harajuku Kiss

Welcome Mystery Monday. For this weekly writing blog post, I will be presenting snippets of my novel Harajuku Kiss, a mystery romance in Japan.

I hope you'll enjoy following our heroine through her thoughts and adventures.

About Harajuku Kiss

At times, life can be so depressing. She is walking her usual recovery tour in Harajuku, finishing with a crepe, trying to forget that her boyfriend dumped her once again for the week-end... When the unthinkable happens... A boy stops in front of her in the street and kisses her, in the middle of the street, before running away.
Trying to discover more about him, she is dragged into a dangerous game of mystery. A biologist has been murdered and a deadly virus is on the loose. First suspect: the mysterious Harajuku's stranger.

Here is the snippet for this week (Check out the previous snippet here)

I hadn’t been able to think for months. I had just being playing around and using the knowledge on the top of my head. Deep thinking had been avoided for so long that I had even thought that I was totally unable to do it anymore. But here it was, just in front of me, the translated letters from Kaji to Seiji. It wasn’t giving me anything of the clues I had been looking for.

I decided to take a shower. Showers were helping me to think. I remembered when I was writing my thesis. I took showers three times a day.

WeWriWar 344: The House at the Crossing 52

Hello everybody and welcome for a new Sunday of writing with Weekend Writing Warrior and Snippet Sunday!

How are you doing?

Let's continue with  "The House at the Crossing" and it's a prequel to Demon Soul and the demon series. It's a bit of a mix of Fantasy and Science-fiction.

It follows one of the books more obscure character as she first comes into the House. It's supposed to explain why there are so many people is the house and sort of where they come from and at the same time be a first time adventure for the main character as she needs to adapt to her new role and the new version of who she is.

Let's start right at where we left off last time, let's meet Wendy.

“Hi... Sorry... Babies...” I say.
And just like that as if talking to her was acknowledging her, she stops flickering and come in full view.
“You can see me,” she says.
“She is the new guardian, Wendy,” Teresa says.
Malicia has turned herself over and is trying to crawl away so I catch her before, she reaches the end of the table. But the table grows bigger with two extra spots to change babies, as if I could change all three of them at the same time.
“Wow, cool,” Wendy says.
She picks up Hiroshi before I can stop her and he stops crying and stares at her.

Vampire Friday: Vampire Heart 305

Welcome to a new part of Vampire Heart unedited. Have you been bitten yet? Sign up to be part of our awesome Vampire Friday blog hop team! You know you want to!

Summary of the previous episodes: Viorel has been tortured by his supposed family who wanted to have him burn in the sun. Strangely enough the sun didn't burn him as expected but Viorel has no memory of who he is. Following the advises of his supposed father, he left Sighișoara and is now traveling to the West. After some skirmish in a previous city, he found refuge on a boat. Viorel is now in Vienna. The little problem is that the guy at the inn was a bit of an asshole and helped capture Viorel thinking he was a vampire, which he is but nobody needs to know. Now there is a huge man (which I call the colossi) taking care of Viorel and a priest. They brought a girl. Torture my holy water... Fail. Viorel managed to confuse everyone, now he would like to get out of here. But the girl seems pretty useless. They still managed to escape and he left the girl to the care of the boat lady before going back to have two words with his captors but his power of persuasion were failing him. The priest wanted to crack a deal but Viorel is not really up to help his enemies. He finally got some blood but he can't risk to stay in Vienna. He travel to Linz were he stays a bit to learn German.
Viorel wanted to go to Praha but redirect himself toward Augsburg instead where he wants to get a horse, except that the horses are a bit scared of his vampirism and maybe something else. Viorel is really not a horse expert. Then he comes into an altercation with couple of people, he wants some fear in his blood. The girl Viorel has found seemed to enjoy the game. Viorel prepares for the nightmares that come with a feast of blood, in a rush to leave, he cross the dukedom of Lorrain.
We introduced Sorina, three weeks after the beginning of Viorel's escape.
Viorel dreamed of Sorina and woke up not really remembering anything. Traveling to Paris, he arrives at "La cour des miracles". He is rescued by a stranger who turned out to be Nicolas Flamel, the alchemist he was looking for. Nicolas does some strange experiment without Viorel's agreement. Some people are looking for Nicolas's secrets. On the other side of Europe, Sorina awakes and Viorel's past in haunting him. Viorel discovered that he can change into a wolf but that's not the easiest thing to handle. After finding out that a younger version of Nicolas might not be acting with his best interest at heart, Viorel decides to leave for the north. He is now traveling with two people, Alexej who needed to get out of Praha and Irina who he accidentally rescued.

Now, let's continue with Vampire Heart, right where we left off last week.

“I’m not really from here,” she continued. “Once when I was little, I saw a dragon and he ate everybody except my mum and me because we were hiding. I’m scared of you too, humans don’t like wolf, next time you see a humans you need to run really far really fast so that they never catch you because they would kill you, just for being who you are. That’s why me and my mum run.

My father wasn’t really rich but he was working for very wealthy people, so we never lack of anything. They had a daughter, about my age. We were often playing together. She had blue eyes and blond hair just like me and we looked really alike. From time to time I would hear my dad saying that my face was a blessing because it gave us a life and every time my mother would hug me. The rich people’s daughter had a preceptor and I needed to sit at the back of the room and take notes of the lessons too. I learned to read and count and languages which my parents didn’t know.

My father didn’t like the knowledge much but my mum forced me to teach them she said that it would make it easier on me to learn that way so my parents learned to. I think I was better than her but it didn’t matter too much, there was never anyone to really notice. I think all that time, my father never really knew what he had got us into with my precious face until the war started. They were taking rich people’s wealth and killing them. The family my parents worked for sent their daughter to the country side, I was given her name and precise instructions about how to talk and how to behave. It was to save her from being killed.
