Wednesday Snippet 291: Blue Angel

Welcome to a new part of Blue Angel unedited, we start right where we left off last week.

This week we are back with Torsti and Odeon.

Torsti and Odeon landed near the cave they knew from having stayed there for few days with Lonan before the fight. There was almost nothing left from the place, the rocks and ground had collapse.

“I'm not really sure I want to get in there,” Torsti said.

“I'm not even sure we can get in there,” Odeon said squatting down to look at what used to be the entrance.

Few days ago it was the way they had taken to escape. Lonan had been carried away in the opposite direction. Odeon placed his hand on the floor and closed his eyes without moving, he listened to the ground, to the vibration of it around it, trying to feel something.

Torsti suddenly beat his hammer on the floor making him startle.

“Why the hell did you do that for?” Odeon asked looking at him amazed.

“To help you of course, I know what you are trying to do so I propagate a wave through the ground and you just have to listen what will come back,” Torsti said passing a hand in his hair.

“Well don't do it again, ok, let me deal with it alone,” Odeon said with frustration in his voice.

Torsti shrugged and took few step away with his hammer back on his shoulder. He left it on the ground near him, put his back against a tree trunk and crossed his arms on his chest. He had seen Odeon do this before. It could take ages. He would concentrate and dive his mind into the ground. It seemed useless and boring and Odeon had tried to teach Torsti and Lonan many times how to do it just like their dad had taught him but there was no way for them to learn, they always ended up fighting and throwing stones at each other.

“Why don't we just walk in the directions they had taken on the surface until we found another entrance,” Torsti asked.

Patience was not his forte.

“Because the tunnels could have taken a turn anytime and we don't have a clue where that is,” Odeon said.

Tuesday Travel 81: Witch Raising: The Book of Fire

Welcome to Tuesday Travel. Every Tuesday, I will be presenting an excerpt of Witch Raising: The Book of Fire, the book in which Brownie, the heroine of Demon Soul, is undertaking an initiatory journey.

About Witch Raising: The Book of Fire

Witch Raising is a new series with Brownie, the heroine of Demon Soul as the main character. This series is part of the House at the Crossing Series and follows Demon Soul and Demon and Fairy but instead of being centered on the adventure of Sahel and his demon friends, it follows Brownie as she goes from being a normal girl to a bad ass witch. She has been practicing magick for a while now, saving people from difficult situations but the people at the house, including Sahel aren't happy with her new calling. Feeling that she doesn't have a choice and has to keep learning witchcraft, Brownie leaves to meet other witches.

The excerpt, we start where we left off last week

They followed the parade like everyone else. There were stands with food and drinks on both side of the road. No cars to be seen anywhere. It seemed that normal life had stopped in the city for the time of the festival.
The night before, Brownie hadn't seen much but there were red paper lantern lights everywhere. With the sun reflecting on the paper, she didn't know if they were turned on or not. Every single house was made of the yellow sand stones and with the upper area painted in bright red color, like flames. The city wasn't not catching real fire anymore but it looked like it was still on fire. It felt hot.
They stopped at one of the stand to catch a drink.
"I'm not sure I'll be able to walk all the way to the cave," Josh said a bit out of breath. "This is intense."
He took out some sun cream tube and added some generously on his face and neck.
"It's the hottest I have ever been in my life," Brownie said. And then she remember when Sahel was going through his fire power. "Almost."
"Almost?" Josh said. "Seriously, what can be hotter than to be walking in the middle of the day under the desert sunlight?"
"Demon's fire," Samantha said.
"Demon's are a myth," Josh said.
"Can I have some cream?" Samantha asked.
Brownie didn't answer. Samantha's comment hit slightly too close to home. Maybe it was better for everyone to believe demons were a myth, that they didn't exist, that they were so far away if they did exist that they were irrelevant in their life. When she was going in town with Sahel, a lot of people didn't even seem to notice he was different. Some people just thought he had a weird costume, some where a bit more awake, like the kids at their school because they had seem demon powers but still the majority of people were going on with their life as if it was normal and as if nothing was happening. Brownie always wondered how it was possible but at the same time she was here following a parade with giant fire lion in every corner and her train of thoughts weren't really related to anything having to do with them. She was too much in her head to remember what they even looked like. She tried to remember the previous one at the street corner they had just passed but except for it being red and big, she didn't really remember much.

Mystery Monday 84: Harajuku Kiss

Welcome Mystery Monday. For this weekly writing blog post, I will be presenting snippets of my novel Harajuku Kiss, a mystery romance in Japan.

I hope you'll enjoy following our heroine through her thoughts and adventures.

About Harajuku Kiss

At times, life can be so depressing. She is walking her usual recovery tour in Harajuku, finishing with a crepe, trying to forget that her boyfriend dumped her once again for the week-end... When the unthinkable happens... A boy stops in front of her in the street and kisses her, in the middle of the street, before running away.
Trying to discover more about him, she is dragged into a dangerous game of mystery. A biologist has been murdered and a deadly virus is on the loose. First suspect: the mysterious Harajuku's stranger.

Here is the snippet for this week (Check out the previous snippet here)

The problem was, if I couldn’t make sense of the complete “WANTED” poster, there was no way I was going to make any sense of this either. Two Japanese guys talking to each other, they didn’t bother to include insignificant me in their equation.

How am I supposed to save someone I can’t understand?” was another question racing in circle in my mind.

I looked at the intimidating text as for me Japanese still looked a bit intimidating. If you look at the basic of it, two syllabaries and a set of kanjis, you have to be somehow masochistic to actually do want to read and write in such a way. The thing is I can do it. If I really put my mind to it, I really can do it. The problem is actually to put my mind to it.

WeWriWar 340: The House at the Crossing 46

Hello everybody and welcome for a new Sunday of writing with Weekend Writing Warrior and Snippet Sunday!

How are you doing?
I entered the 6 Week challenge this month, it has been a long time since I did it last. It's a challenge to learn languages and I'm doing Irish as my main target language this time around.

Let's continue with  "The House at the Crossing" and it's a prequel to Demon Soul and the demon series. It's a bit of a mix of Fantasy and Science-fiction.

It follows one of the books more obscure character as she first comes into the House. It's supposed to explain why there are so many people is the house and sort of where they come from and at the same time be a first time adventure for the main character as she needs to adapt to her new role and the new version of who she is.

Let's start right at where we left off last week, Teresa is still talking.

"You see my parents never went there. Actually, I don't think they even knew the place existed but then it was filled with things... books, rugs, vinyls, old clothes from another time, from other realms... I didn't realise what the house really was then. But from that point, it started to change. If I wanted a room to put my drawings, there was one appearing just next to my bedroom. That one too, my parents didn't see. And then the house was flickering everywhere and I saw the others people living here and the flickers became real, the house took the shape the previous guardian had given it, so many rooms, so many places and creatures, even a library tower for crying out loud. I spent hours there. All my time, figuring things out."
