Vampire Friday: Vampire Heart 294

Welcome to a new part of Vampire Heart unedited. Have you been bitten yet? Sign up to be part of our awesome Vampire Friday blog hop team! You know you want to!

Summary of the previous episodes: Viorel has been tortured by his supposed family who wanted to have him burn in the sun. Strangely enough the sun didn't burn him as expected but Viorel has no memory of who he is. Following the advises of his supposed father, he left Sighișoara and is now traveling to the West. After some skirmish in a previous city, he found refuge on a boat. Viorel is now in Vienna. The little problem is that the guy at the inn was a bit of an asshole and helped capture Viorel thinking he was a vampire, which he is but nobody needs to know. Now there is a huge man (which I call the colossi) taking care of Viorel and a priest. They brought a girl. Torture my holy water... Fail. Viorel managed to confuse everyone, now he would like to get out of here. But the girl seems pretty useless. They still managed to escape and he left the girl to the care of the boat lady before going back to have two words with his captors but his power of persuasion were failing him. The priest wanted to crack a deal but Viorel is not really up to help his enemies. He finally got some blood but he can't risk to stay in Vienna. He travel to Linz were he stays a bit to learn German.
Viorel wanted to go to Praha but redirect himself toward Augsburg instead where he wants to get a horse, except that the horses are a bit scared of his vampirism and maybe something else. Viorel is really not a horse expert. Then he comes into an altercation with couple of people, he wants some fear in his blood. The girl Viorel has found seemed to enjoy the game. Viorel prepares for the nightmares that come with a feast of blood, in a rush to leave, he cross the dukedom of Lorrain.
We introduced Sorina, three weeks after the beginning of Viorel's escape.
Viorel dreamed of Sorina and woke up not really remembering anything. Traveling to Paris, he arrives at "La cour des miracles". He is rescued by a stranger who turned out to be Nicolas Flamel, the alchemist he was looking for. Nicolas does some strange experiment without Viorel's agreement. Some people are looking for Nicolas's secrets. On the other side of Europe, Sorina awakes and Viorel's past in haunting him. Viorel discovered that he can change into a wolf but that's not the easiest thing to handle. After finding out that a younger version of Nicolas might not be acting with his best interest at heart, Viorel decides to leave for the north. He is now traveling with two people, Alexej who needed to get out of Praha and Irina who he accidentally rescued.

Now, let's continue with Vampire Heart, right where we left off last week

“The same as everyone else I suppose.” Alexej answered
“Have you ever seen one?” I asked.
“Those who have aren’t anywhere able to tell sir?” Alexej answered.
I wasn’t too sure about that, if nobody ever saw a dragon then why would people be so afraid of them, if they had only seen the rest of an attack, it could have been done by anything, why would they even consider that it was dragons and not a natural cause. After measuring the consequences of the effect it would have on him, I opted for going deeper into the dragon talk.
“Irina said she did,” I carefully said.
Alexej snort as if he was going to spit on the floor but didn’t.
“That girl is just lies, she pretends to be something good but she only pretends, you see what I mean. Her clothes and the way she walks doesn’t fit the way she talks, she believes she is higher than everybody but she smells of lower birth like everybody else. So now she has seen a dragon? Where? There isn’t any dragon in Praha, she hasn’t set a foot out of the country. In one of her books maybe, she seems to like those.” He said.

He sounded a bit angry.
There was something between him and Irina, an animosity that I couldn’t understand. I had thought it was her fault, because she didn’t like men so much because of what her step father had tried to do to her but then I had thought it was more specific to Alexej, something in him was repulsive to her and scaring her but it was the same on Alexej’s side. He couldn’t stand Irina, she seemed to impersonate all at once what he hated the most.
I sat on the other side of the table.

Wednesday Snippet 286: Blue Angel

Welcome to a new part of Blue Angel unedited, we start right where we left off last week

The little demon stopped right where he was with fear on his face. Sahel looked around to make sure that they were alone before running back to the cave.
“When I told you to stay hidden, I meant it,” he said angrily.
“But we wanted to see you fight, you are the best Nephil, we wanted to learn how to protect ourselves against the watchers,” one of the kid said pouting.
Samira threw him a bad look and crossed her arm on her chest.
“Don't you try this on me because I'll show you what makes a real Watcher,” she said. “These guys were jokes.”
She seemed unimpressed.
“I haven't seen you fight yet, but I'm sure you fight like a girl,” one of the kid said.
“Yes, cause she is a girl,” another one answered laughing.
“You little...” Samira started rushing on them.
Sahel smiled, it seemed that they are started to get used to each other.
“Joke or not they are knocked out so we better get going,” Sahel said. “You fly first and open the way,” he said to the dark shadow who executed himself without asking for better, he was happy to get away from the kids and was flying fast. They followed him. Sahel was flying through them making sure that nobody stayed behind. It was a bit hard for some of them to fly that fast and such a long distance. He had to tell the shadow to slow down several times. Samira was closing the group flying low and slow. Sahel was feeling really happy that she had his back. She seemed strong and caring somehow. He almost regretted to have called her a bad sister but sometimes things needed to be said.
“You can't mean to leave us here,” she said coming closer to him as they reached the tower.
“We are leaving the kids here and you are coming with me,” Sahel said.
“That's not what I mean, this is a Watcher's school and this tower is forbidden to students because there are guards stealing souls inside,” she said.

Tuesday Travel 76: Witch Raising: The Book of Fire

Welcome to Tuesday Travel. Every Tuesday, I will be presenting an excerpt of Witch Raising: The Book of Fire, the book in which Brownie, the heroine of Demon Soul, is undertaking an initiatory journey.

About Witch Raising: The Book of Fire

Witch Raising is a new series with Brownie, the heroine of Demon Soul as the main character. This series is part of the House at the Crossing Series and follows Demon Soul and Demon and Fairy but instead of being centered on the adventure of Sahel and his demon friends, it follows Brownie as she goes from being a normal girl to a bad ass witch. She has been practicing magick for a while now, saving people from difficult situations but the people at the house, including Sahel aren't happy with her new calling. Feeling that she doesn't have a choice and has to keep learning witchcraft, Brownie leaves to meet other witches.

The excerpt, we start where we left off last week

She finished her second croissant and stood up for more. Her hunger from the previous day didn't really recess. That was another reason why she was up so early, she had woken up hungry. She took a small brioche in form of a baguette and a raisin bread, then stopped for a pain au chocolat. She hesitated about getting more but decided to get back to her seat.
The sun light was coming out through the buildings finally. The light of the city were turned off giving the street a gloomy air. It wasn't day yet but it wasn't night either.
"A good time for a witch," a voice said behind her.
Josh had entered the room.
"They said breakfast wouldn't be up for another hours so I could either wait or come here," he said.
"Yes, they told me the same," Brownie said.
Josh looked at her plate.
"Wow, you're having a lot, how can you still be so skinny?" he asked. "Is that some witch magic power?"
"What's with you and witches, this morning," Brownie asked.
"Well, you tell me."
Brownie rose an eyebrow. Being a witch wasn't something she yelled on over roof tops. She was proud of it but she wasn't going to discuss it with everyone she just met. People had too many misconceptions about what a witch was and she wasn't here to teach them what a real witch couldn't and couldn't do and what type of magic she was into. She never wanted to discuss it. Well, at some point in her life she would have loved to have someone to help and talk about it. The more the time passed, the more she realised that this wasn't happening. Either because people told her that what she was doing was wrong and that she should leave magic to real wizards who were born with it and didn't have a choice or people were just too interested and wanted her to teach them crazy things from their imagination that she wasn't sure even existed. All in all people didn't believe she was a real witch when she refuse to fly on a broom. She had seen a kid fly on a broom once and seriously, that had been terrifying with books falling from every corner of the library.

Mystery Monday 80: Harajuku Kiss

Welcome Mystery Monday. For this weekly writing blog post, I will be presenting snippets of my novel Harajuku Kiss, a mystery romance in Japan.
I hope you'll enjoy following our heroine through her thoughts and adventures.

About Harajuku Kiss

At times, life can be so depressing. She is walking her usual recovery tour in Harajuku, finishing with a crepe, trying to forget that her boyfriend dumped her once again for the week-end... When the unthinkable happens... A boy stops in front of her in the street and kisses her, in the middle of the street, before running away.
Trying to discover more about him, she is dragged into a dangerous game of mystery. A biologist has been murdered and a deadly virus is on the loose. First suspect: the mysterious Harajuku's stranger.

Here is the snippet for this week (Check out the previous snippet here)

But an organization like the one I had just in front of my eyes was something I could definitely only dream of. Each folder contained an enormous amount of data about diverse molecular properties. Each molecule had been fully studied, from a structural point of view, there were spectra and notes, reaction to divers chemicals and to each others, crystallography studies, and so much more. I was wondering how someone could have obtained so much information about so huge molecules when I was struggling with my dihydrogen molecular ion. A dead line given by company was maybe not that bad, even though there was no way I could work faster. I guess I had to compare what was comparable. This was obviously a team's work and they had to work on it for a long time, years. I wanted to get into details of what this work was about but I had the vague idea that it was not going to help me find Seiji at least not for the moment.
