About Witch Raising: The Book of Fire

Witch Raising is a new series with Brownie, the heroine of Demon Soul as the main character. This series is part of the House at the Crossing Series and follows Demon Soul and Demon and Fairy but instead of being centered on the adventure of Sahel and his demon friends, it follows Brownie as she goes from being a normal girl to a bad ass witch. She has been practicing magick for a while now, saving people from difficult situations but the people at the house, including Sahel aren't happy with her new calling. Feeling that she doesn't have a choice and has to keep learning witchcraft, Brownie leaves to meet other witches.

The excerpt, we start where we left off last week

They reached the bottom of the last fly of stairs and walk through the corridor, chatty Sandy came closer to her letting go of her boyfriend's hand as if she was going to talk more to Brownie about turning her vegetarian. Her arm rose as if to touch Brownie but she let it go down as if she changed her mind and went back to her boyfriend.
Brownie smiled. A little barrier to avoid that kind of contact wasn't an over reaction, it was a necessity and she already felt the space open and her lung filling up more easily before even reaching the entrance.
Rori looked at them and rose and eyebrow. The woman behind her deck of cards turned one last and smiled, her smile disappeared when she looked up and saw that Brownie was not alone.
"Here is your money," she said to Rori handing him a ten.
"Don't be like that Trisha, really, you can't always win. You might be getting tired." Then to Brownie. "Thanks, girl, that's the first I got back today."
"You're welcome," Brownie answered.
"We are going out to eat," Josh said. "Any good place for fire stew?"
"With a vegetarian version," Marri with two "r"'s added.
"We got no vegetable stew around," Rori answer. "But if you want stew go check on old Graddy. It's on the opposite street after you pass the main. It's the only restaurant with a hanging sign over the street, you can't miss it. Tell him you're staying here, he'll give you a price."
"But for the vegetarian version, old Graddy is no good," Trisha said. "If that's what you really want you'll have to go to the east center, it's about three miles away and they have a lot of things from different places."
"Stew it is," Samuel said.
Sandy putted.
"Sorry babe but after 10 hours in the damn bus to come here, I'm not walking three miles in and back to get some food that I won't even like. Stew it is."

Mystery Monday 62: Harajuku Kiss

Welcome Mystery Monday. For this weekly writing blog post, I will be presenting snippets of my novel Harajuku Kiss, a mystery romance in Japan.
I hope you'll enjoy following our heroine through her thoughts and adventures.

About Harajuku Kiss

At times, life can be so depressing. She is walking her usual recovery tour in Harajuku, finishing with a crepe, trying to forget that her boyfriend dumped her once again for the week-end... When the unthinkable happens... A boy stops in front of her in the street and kisses her, in the middle of the street, before running away.
Trying to discover more about him, she is dragged into a dangerous game of mystery. A biologist has been murdered and a deadly virus is on the loose. First suspect: the mysterious Harajuku's stranger.

Here is the snippet for this week

You don’t know that!” That nasty voice in my head smashed again. That was the voice always bringing me down.
How can you pretend to be a scientist if you never stick to the fact but only extrapolate with your emotional disillusions?” was its favorite question.
Is there something you really want?” once again the question stroked me when I was expecting it the less.

WeWriWar 332: The House at the Crossing 38

Hello everybody and welcome for a new Sunday of writing with Weekend Writing Warrior and Snippet Sunday!
Let's continue with  "The House at the Crossing" and it's a prequel to Demon Soul and the demon series. It's a bit of a mix of Fantasy and Science-fiction.
It follows one of the books more obscure character as she first come into the House. It's suppose to explain why there are so many people is the house and sort of where they come from and at the same time be a first time adventure for the main character as she needs to adapt to her new role and the new version of who she is.
Does anyone else find those changes in blogger very annoying. It's like everything is still there and the same but all different and confusing!

Let's start right at where we left off last week !

To be honest, I wanted to ask too, the question was burning my tongue but I also wanted to deny that anything weird was happening. I'm still not sure if I want any part with this. I might just take the kids out and go back to my normal life. Except I don't know how to reach my own universe from here. I don't know how to get back to my own life. I have memories of so many in me that it's making me dizzy.
“How did those people just appear in the kitchen?” I asked.
“And how did they disappear?” We both ask together.
She is looking at me, I know because I want to look at her but I'm trying not to.
“They didn't appear and disappear,” Aunt Teresa said. “They were here all along, just like you, but sometimes, some universe can be a bit shy and only be revealed later. They enter at about the same time you did, some earlier, some maybe later, there are probably a lot of them who haven't made it here yet, and maybe, some who never will, some part of yourself you will only meet when you die and they die too.”

Vampire Friday: Vampire Heart 277

Welcome to a new part of Vampire Heart unedited. Have you been bitten yet? Sign up to be part of our awesome Vampire Friday blog hop team! You know you want to!

Summary of the previous episodes: Viorel has been tortured by his supposed family who wanted to have him burn in the sun. Strangely enough the sun didn't burn him as expected but Viorel has no memory of who he is. Following the advises of his supposed father, he left Sighișoara and is now traveling to the West. After some skirmish in a previous city, he found refuge on a boat. Viorel is now in Vienna. The little problem is that the guy at the inn was a bit of an asshole and helped capture Viorel thinking he was a vampire, which he is but nobody needs to know. Now there is a huge man (which I call the colossi) taking care of Viorel and a priest. They brought a girl. Torture my holy water... Fail. Viorel managed to confuse everyone, now he would like to get out of here. But the girl seems pretty useless. They still managed to escape and he left the girl to the care of the boat lady before going back to have two words with his captors but his power of persuasion were failing him. The priest wanted to crack a deal but Viorel is not really up to help his enemies. He finally got some blood but he can't risk to stay in Vienna. He travel to Linz were he stays a bit to learn German.
Viorel wanted to go to Praha but redirect himself toward Augsburg instead where he wants to get a horse, except that the horses are a bit scared of his vampirism and maybe something else. Viorel is really not a horse expert. Then he comes into an altercation with couple of people, he wants some fear in his blood. The girl Viorel has found seemed to enjoy the game. Viorel prepares for the nightmares that come with a feast of blood, in a rush to leave, he cross the dukedom of Lorrain.
We introduced Sorina, three weeks after the beginning of Viorel's escape.
Viorel dreamed of Sorina and woke up not really remembering anything. Traveling to Paris, he arrives at "La cour des miracles". He is rescued by a stranger who turned out to be Nicolas Flamel, the alchemist he was looking for. Nicolas does some strange experiment without Viorel's agreement. Some people are looking for Nicolas's secrets. On the other side of Europe, Sorina awakes and Viorel's past in haunting him. Viorel discovered that he can change into a wolf but that's not the easiest thing to handle. After finding out that a younger version of Nicolas might not be acting with his best interest at heart, Viorel decides to leave for the north. He is now traveling with two people, Alexej who needed to get out of Praha and Irina who he accidentally rescued.

Now, let's continue with Vampire Heart, right where we left off last week.

I looked back through the window at the trees passing fast in front of my eyes thinking that Alexej was really an awesome driver. I would never have been able to do that on my own. Irina didn’t ask again about talking about the journals for the next few days. It was only when we reached the border with the kingdom of Poland that she felt the urge to get back to it. I had my deal of writing to do during that time and wasn’t really in a hurry to learn anything. I had the journals for three years and not knowing their content didn’t change my life during that time but the more Irina talked about them, the more frightening it become. She was whispering so low when translating them to me that at time I could barely hear her voice. It was as if she was always scared to be heard, even by Alexej. She never said his name, she called him that dreaded driver of your, as to make sure that she wasn’t associated with him for close of far. She barely looked at him and didn’t even bother to answer to him when he rarely spoke to her first. I didn’t know what she was holding against him. I asked several times but she always evaded the question. I also felt that there was something in Alexej that wasn’t really normal, for a human. His reflexes were extremely quick as if he didn’t need to think to do something or move, he seemed to be counting on his instinct. I was smelling the air like an animal or like a vampire, especially when we were arriving close to villages, I had seen him do through the trap between the driver sit and the inside of the carriage, every time he had noticed me he had started to whistle and air with nonchalance, as to pretend that nothing happened. I didn’t want to be suspicious of him, after all he was the on sitting outside ad driving even in the rain and ever growing colder wind. I had told him that we could stop fr him to take cover but he had refused making Irina roll her eyes. There was something between those two that I couldn’t put a name on. The more Alexej tried to be nice with Irina the more she would avoid him and ignore him. She was acting like a spoiled child even if while she translated the diaries for me, I had a tendency to forget her young age. The time I had spent with Nicolas had opened a thirst for knowledge in me that I didn’t thought I had. I wanted to know everything she knew.
