We then took the direction of 정방폭포 Jeongbang Waterfall but stopped on the way in the Xu Fu gallery. The Xu Fu gallery present the adventure of the Chinese court sorcerer Xu Fu (Seo Bok). According to the legend, Qin Shi Huang emperor sent Xu Fu to find the
elixir of life at Mt. Yeongju (now known as Mt. Halla), one of the three sacred
mountains where the immortals were said to live.
Xu Fu climbed up Mt.
Yeongju with thousands of boys and girls in search of the elixir. When
he arrived at Jeongbang Waterfall, he was so captivated by its beauty
that he carved “Xu Fu passed by here” in the rock face, and then headed
west. The name of Seogwipo city is said to be derived from this
inscription.

Korea, Jeju island 大長今 and other dramas

Jeju island is the filming scenery of predilection for a lot of Korean drama including 大長今 (Dae Jang Geum). In the Jeju Folk Village museum there is a lot of area dedicated to those drama and in particular 大長今 mini theme park which present clothing and object used during the drama as well as a summarized story. It was really funny to see the pictures of the drama on the historical site.

Korea, Jeju island : Jeju Folk Village museum

After 성산 일출봉 we tried to go visit the Jeju Folk Village museum in the south part of the Island but it was already close so we decided to start there the next day. The Jeju Folk Village Museum is a a large park that tell the story of the history and folklore of the 19th century Jeju island. It present villages houses for different kind of people from different social classes and different work such as mountain work and fishing work. It also show the art work of the island. It is also the filming location for several Korean period drama including 大長今 : Dae Jang Geum.

Korea, Jeju island : 성산 일출봉

From 태왕사신기we took the taxi then the bus to go to 성산 일출봉(seongsan Ilchulbong) sunrise peak. It's a volcanic formation called tuff cone formed by phreatic eruption, which means that the magna coming to the surface first warmed up the water causing water evaporation almost instantaneously and projecting it with the lava during the explosion, about 5 thousand years ago. The inside of the tuff cone is now covered with vegetation but presents divers structures considered of geological worth for the study of volcanic activities. It's a UNESCO World Heritage site.
