Tuesday Travel 127: Witch Raising: The Book of Fire

Welcome to Tuesday Travel. Every Tuesday, I will be presenting an excerpt of Witch Raising: The Book of Fire, the book in which Brownie, the heroine of Demon Soul, is undertaking an initiatory journey.

About Witch Raising: The Book of Fire

Witch Raising is a new series with Brownie, the heroine of Demon Soul as the main character. This series is part of the House at the Crossing Series and follows Demon Soul and Demon and Fairy but instead of being centered on the adventure of Sahel and his demon friends, it follows Brownie as she goes from being a normal girl to a bad ass witch. She has been practicing magick for a while now, saving people from difficult situations but the people at the house, including Sahel aren't happy with her new calling. Feeling that she doesn't have a choice and has to keep learning witchcraft, Brownie leaves to meet other witches.

The excerpt, we start where we left off last week

They walked. It seemed so slow but the demons were at their back now and even if Josh and Samantha kept on looking back toward them, Brownie didn't. She was escaping, she didn't need to see what was after her, she already knew, all she needed was to know what was in front of her, to make sure she was going in the right direction, to make sure she wasn't tripping. The cave was slippery and the path was going up fast toward a hole filled with the last ray of sunshine. She felt lucky that they had been in the first group and that there was still light on the other side. Above the sound of the crowded that seemed to be getting tired of walking, there was the sound of flipping wings. The demons were flying toward them. Brownie didn't want to look, she kept her head down and continued walking but Josh was a look more curious and he was slow, he was always looking up and back and stopping while doing so and people were bumping into them because of him.
"Just walk," Brownie said pulling and pushing.
"Sorry but I never saw anyone fly before," Josh said, back at walking again.
Anyone, that's what he said, as if demons were the same as humans, just with wings. The same way Brownie thought about them, or at least some of them, the ones she wasn't terrified of.
"They are not people," Samantha said, "They are animals, beasts, monsters."
She had a point.
"I don't know, if could just be a costume," Josh said.
