Fire, the book in which Brownie, the heroine of Demon Soul, is undertaking an initiatory journey.

About Witch Raising: The Book of Fire
Witch Raising is a new series with Brownie, the heroine of Demon Soul as the main character. This series is part of the House at the Crossing Series and follows Demon Soul and Demon and Fairy but instead of being centered on the adventure of Sahel and his demon friends, it follows Brownie as she goes from being a normal girl to a bad ass witch. She has been practicing magick for a while now, saving people from difficult situations but the people at the house, including Sahel aren't happy with her new calling. Feeling that she doesn't have a choice and has to keep learning witchcraft, Brownie leaves to meet other witches.
The excerpt, we start where we left off last week
Erhland, or Great conglomeration of Evergreen and Erhland to be exact was an Island to
the west there was only one way to get there, take the train through
the only bridge that linked the continent to the Island. The sea
around the Island was say to be infested with monsters but it was
more likely a protected corral rift that forbade any boat to reach
the shores. It was huge and extended far up north into highland
filled with Mountains, fjords and other geographical things Brownie
would have need a dictionary to picture for her. The brochure she was
reading while waiting for her turn on the long queue to the ticket
office was depicting it as the ideal escape for adventure, romantic
Northern light evening and beginner to intensive hiking. That's what
she had actually forgotten, hiking shoes, not that she really had any
but she wonder how much it would cost and if she would have enough
money. She put the thought aside, it wasn't really the right time to
worry about that, it was too late to change anything and too early to
complain about her shoes. She had to cross the entire contry to reach
the West coast. She had never traveled that far. Going to the Demon
World didn't really count as “far” as even if it was a different
world it was just one step away from her house. And they had pretty
nice beach there comparing to what the human version was at least. It
was really strange. Thinking about it, she didn't even get how the
demon world could be at the top of the fairy tree and nobody ever
really seeing it. So yeah, this was her first time going that far and
her first time traveling on her own too. It could have been an
awesome vacation she would have taken with Sahel but instead, it was
just a little scared version of her.
“Where too?” The lady
behind the train station counter asked.
“Erhan... ,hum,
Erhland,” Brownie said.
“We don't have any
direct ticket for Erhland, you need to go either to Samircity or to
Evergreen Stop first, but there are no direct trains,” the lady
answered.
“What is the most
direct way?” Brownie said.
“As I said, no direct
train, multiple stops from here it takes a week to Samircity and ten
days to Evergreen,” the lady said.
It would have to be Samir
then.
“To Samir we have a
train departing in two hours going to Warhen, then you need to change
to.. wait... I'll print you both itinerary and you can decide while I
take care of the next customer.”
Brownie didn't have time
to ask anything that the papers already went out of the printer and
were ended to her.
“Stay on the side, I'll
get to you next.”
Brownie moved a bit to
the right and studied the first itinerary to Samircity. There were
nine stops between here and there when she had change trains and not
that long between the trains, it seemed ridiculous. One stop was in
the middle of the night, at 1.32 in the morning with a departure at
1.35 in the next train. That didn't even seem possible.
The second itinerary
going to Evergreen Stop wasn't much better. There was only seven
stops all as ridiculous as the previous one and she would be stranded
at Lake Baik for three days.
The customer took her
tickets and moved away and Brownie came back to the lady at the
encounter.
