Thursday taster 27: Parallel Slip

Hello everybody and welcome to a new Thursday Taster!
Please don't forget to check on the other tasters, you can find the list here
Let's continue our Parallel Slip story where we left off last week. This week, Frederique is meeting with her little half brother for the first time.

"Why do you have those?" Jonas asked, bending toward me to have a look.
"Because I faint and then my mum takes me to the hospital," I said.
"Pretty cool, so many colors," Jonas said.
And that was true, the scans were more colorful than usual and the area of activity was larger too. Still, I wasn't too sure which part would represent the stress.
"So you got one every time you make a story?" Jonas asked.
"Not every time, only when someone takes me to the hospital," I said.
"That's strange, sometimes I have stories in my head too, but I don't faint," Jonas said.
"Yes, it's very strange, you know, I call them travel," I said. "It's never a complete story, only little parts of story."
"But she needs to go back to kiss the guy," Jonas said.
For one moment, I thought that I could really explain what happened to me to Jonas, but I guessed not.
"I don't decide which story I see," I answered. "Or when I see them."
"Dad told me that if you fall when we are together, I need to call some adults, then make sure you don't bleed," Jonas said.
"That sounds about right," I said.
So they had a briefing about my condition before I arrived. I just hope that I wasn't going to travel too many times while staying at my dad, because that could make him freak out like my mum and change his mind about the university. I couldn't wait to compare the brain scan with my other brain scans and with images in the books I had planed on buying today, when I would finally manage to go to the store again.

My father had a large house, a bigger garden than my mother's and, overall, you could see that he wasn't spending all his money on hospital bill which somehow made me ache for my mother.
"I'll show her her room," Jonas said taking my hand. "It's my favorite place in the house, but I'm not allowed to go there so often," he added for me only.
It was the same room I had at my mum, the same bed and toys and books everything was the same as my room was ten years ago when my father left.
"At the time I thought, you might come over, at least at the weekend, so I didn't want it to be a big change for you," my father said from the door. "It's a bit outdated, but I added the things we talked about, maybe that can count as belated birthday presents or something. And my letters are in the top desk drawer."

  2. Oh, his letters? Had they been written, mailed and returned to sender? If so why? Or had he never mailed them, or a bit of both. That is very interesting and some of her father could be revealed next week. I love this story, Linda. What are the scans going to reveal to her? ANd he little brother...why wasn't he allowed to go to her room? You packed quite a lot in this taster and I love it! xo

  6. What a nice, sweet little story! And I love how she has 'stories' that affect her so strongly!

  7. This is a very good post. I think she'll make herself at home with her father, now that she was out of her controlling, over-protective mother. She was literally bringing her down; what a difference.

  8. The images and illusions keep building your story. Your voice is securely embeded in her character. I'm anxious to read more after reading each excerpt you share.
