Summary of the previous episodes:
Viorel has been tortured by his
supposed family who wanted to have him burn in the sun. Strangely
enough the sun didn't burn him as expected but Viorel has no memory of
who he is. Following the advises of his supposed father, he left
Sighișoara and is now traveling to the West. After some skirmish in a
previous city, he found refuge on a boat. Viorel is now in Vienna. The
little problem is that the guy at the inn was a bit of an asshole
and helped capture Viorel thinking he was a vampire, which he is but
nobody needs to know. Now there is a huge man (which I call the colossi)
taking care of Viorel and a priest. They brought a girl. Torture my
holy water... Fail. Viorel managed to confuse everyone, now he would
like to get out of here. But the girl seems pretty useless. They still
managed to escape and he left the girl to the care of the boat lady
before going back to have two words with his captors but his power of
persuasion were failing him. The priest wanted to crack a
deal but Viorel is not really up to help his enemies. He finally got
some blood but he can't risk to stay in Vienna. He travel to Linz were
he stays a bit to learn German.
Viorel wanted to go to Praha but redirect himself toward Augsburg
instead where he wants to get a horse, except that the horses are a bit
scared of his vampirism and maybe something else. Viorel is really not a
horse expert. Then he comes into an altercation with couple of people,
he wants some fear in his blood. The girl Viorel has found seemed to
enjoy the game. Viorel prepares for the nightmares that come with a
feast of blood, in a rush to leave, he cross the dukedom of Lorrain.
We introduced Sorina, three weeks after the beginning of Viorel's escape.
Viorel dreamed of Sorina and woke up not really remembering anything.
Traveling to Paris, he arrives at "La cour des miracles". He is rescued
by a stranger who turned out to be Nicolas Flamel, the alchemist he was
looking for. Nicolas does some strange experiment without Viorel's
agreement. Some people are looking for Nicolas's secrets.
On the other side of Europe, Sorina awakes and Viorel's past in haunting him. Viorel discovered that he can change into a wolf but that's not the easiest thing to handle.
Now, let's continue with Vampire Heart, right where we left of last week.
“On
this side are the body that should be taken away soon, have been
there for week poor folks nobody want them”, he said showing the
left doors with his hand. “I got some guys to move them around, not
that they might the décor too much.” He had that strange laugh
again.
I
didn’t like the man, I found his disrespect really hard to bear
with and if he hadn’t been that fat and death sticking I might have
come back to bite him during the night.
“Here
are the kids, that’s not pretty either if you ask me, most of the
parents can’t even afford burial at that age, it’s such a shame.
I mean little girls in white angel dresses are better looking when
they go out in the sun.” he said waving his hand to the right.
“Where
are the case investigated by the police?” Nicolas asked.
I
could feel the same impatience in his voice than what I was feeling.
I wanted out of there.
“You
know the most curious thing about those”, the fat man said, “it’s
that two of them got missing while I was away and nobody signed the
register or paid the fees, all we have is a window broken. The guy
who took them knew his business for sure, we don’t even have broken
glass in the room.”
Nicolas
gave me an understanding look. It was what I had feared, the vampires
had breed some offspring and there were newborn vampires in the
loose. No glass window was enough to hold a vampire in, not even with
iron bars on. The fat man took some more time to look for the key. At
first I thought he was counting them but then he went to move them
backward on the key chain and he seemed to be singing some sort of
melody. I didn’t understand the strange Czech rhythm of it. He
finally opened the door. Nicolas walked straight to the body and I
walked to the window. The glass had been replaced but the iron bars
were still torn inward. They were small but large enough for a
vampire average body to feel through. The bottom of then was at
ground level on the other side and there were still some marks of
someone sliding out on the grass. They weren’t so much light
getting in, at least not enough to hit the body directly and burn a
vampire skin.
“I
wouldn’t go too close of the body if I were you, just a
precaution”, I said.
Nicolas
noted and pulled the first dirty white sheet away from the first
man’s face. The fat man laughed again.
“It’s
not like they are going to stand up anytime soon, or do you think
they carry diseases?” he asked.
I
decided to ignore him and came close to Nicolas to look at the first
body.
“This
one is safe”, I said. It was one of the robbers I had seen last
night, as dry as a piece of wood near a winter chimney.
“What
are you looking for exactly?” The fat man said as I took away the
sheet on two more bodies.
He
was getting suspicious and I could understand why but I wasn’t
going to answer to him. I examined the marks on the victims’ neck.
There were two small in diameter but very deep holes. The holes were
clear, there were two blue circle due to the sucking around them, the
last vestige of blood even flowing in the bodies before there death.
I examined the lips and the nails as well. They were totally white.
“Safe”,
I said again.
“Are
you sure?” Nicolas asked.

Another great scene! Between Viorel's thoughts of coming back to bite the man and Viorel letting Nicolas know the bodies are safe...that was so intriguing!
