Summary of the previous episodes:
Viorel has been tortured by his
supposed family who wanted to have him burn in the sun. Strangely
enough the sun didn't burn him as expected but Viorel has no memory of
who he is. Following the advises of his supposed father, he left
Sighișoara and is now traveling to the West. After some skirmish in a
previous city, he found refuge on a boat. Viorel is now in Vienna. The
little problem is that the guy at the inn was a bit of an asshole
and helped capture Viorel thinking he was a vampire, which he is but
nobody needs to know. Now there is a huge man (which I call the colossi)
taking care of Viorel and a priest. They brought a girl. Torture my
holy water... Fail. Viorel managed to confuse everyone, now he would
like to get out of here. But the girl seems pretty useless. They still
managed to escape and he left the girl to the care of the boat lady
before going back to have two words with his captors but his power of
persuasion were failing him. The priest wanted to crack a
deal but Viorel is not really up to help his enemies. He finally got
some blood but he can't risk to stay in Vienna. He travel to Linz were
he stays a bit to learn German.
Viorel wanted to go to Praha but redirect himself toward Augsburg
instead where he wants to get a horse, except that the horses are a bit
scared of his vampirism and maybe something else. Viorel is really not a
horse expert. Then he comes into an altercation with couple of people,
he wants some fear in his blood. The girl Viorel has found seemed to
enjoy the game. Viorel prepares for the nightmares that come with a
feast of blood, in a rush to leave, he cross the dukedom of Lorrain.
We introduced Sorina, three weeks after the beginning of Viorel's escape.
Viorel dreamed of Sorina and woke up not really remembering anything.
Traveling to Paris, he arrives at "La cour des miracles". He is rescued
by a stranger who turned out to be Nicolas Flamel, the alchemist he was
looking for. Nicolas does some strange experiment without Viorel's
agreement. Some people are looking for Nicolas's secrets.
On the other side of Europe, Sorina awakes and Viorel's past in haunting him. Viorel discovered that he can change into a wolf but that's not the easiest thing to handle.
Now, let's continue with Vampire Heart, right where we left of last week.
We
were walking in the street and I had stopped lost in my thoughts. It
didn’t happen to me too often but it was another effect of blood
running out of me.
“Yes”,
I simply said and started to walk again. I had questions turning in
my mind and I w
The
streets of Praha in the morning were animated. People were going out
to buy the food for the day, there were people going out of church,
people playing music or painting in the streets near the old bridge.
It still smelt like summer even with the day growing colder every
night. The bodies were supposed to be found in a place which served
as depot for dead body from everywhere in the city until either the
body was claimed by the families who needed to pay some fees for it
and the burial or ditched altogether in the communal wheel. It
smelled like death and I was glad my vampire smell had tuned down.
Nicolas covered his nose with his handkerchief, we weren’t even in
yet. A large, fat but small man great us at the entrance, he smelled
as dead as the rest of the building. I was suspecting that he had
been wearing the same dark blue uniform for the year without ever
bothering to wash it. After all, there was no way to get rid of that
smell while living in it all day long. I guess he had gotten used to
it by the look he threw had Nicolas covered nose.
“So
you are looking for dead bodies?” was the first thing he said. “The
folks at the police told me but they don’t look pretty, And you’re
lucky because today we even have more of them.”
He
had a strange laugh and I wasn’t sure I knew what to find comical
in the situation and Nicolas seemed to feel the same. I had my guess
that after seeing more dead than living bodies the poor guy might
have lost his way of interacting with the living.
“We
would like to see all of them?” Nicolas said.
“I
hope you’re only talking about the strange case, right? I don’t
want to walk you all around the building”, the fat man said finally
standing up from his bench, it seemed to be quite an effort for him.
I had always been curious about fat people. Vampire’s body didn’t
change like that, if I was to ever eat more human food than necessary
it would make me sick and I was likely to vomit it. I needed to use
all the energy I consumed. Humans were really a strange species.
“The
strange cases the police are investigating will do”, Nicolas
answered.
The
fat man looked at me from top to bottom and bottom to top as if
trying to determine if I should be left in too. He pushed his glass
of water away from the edge of his desk and slide himself painfully
between it and the wall. I wonder if he was even going home to sleep
or if he was sitting here days and night and having someone bringing
him his meals. He walked slowly in front of us balancing his body
from one foot to the other as he walked. He had a heavy key ring
hanging on his belt. He took some time to find the first key and
turned it slowly in the lock, door’s hinges were rusty. He pushed
the handle down and pushed the door with all his weight. I was
starting to understand why he needed to be so fat. We entered a very
long corridor. It was one of the longest I had ever seen, the smell
was ever stronger.

This is such a vivid scene with all the descriptions. i really like the thoughts about the man in charge of the body depot, I could picture it all. Intrigued to see what they find, especially with more bodies.
