Vampire Friday: Vampire Heart 51

Sorry, I totally forgot to schedule this one. Don't bite me for being super late!
Sign up to be part of our awesome Vampire Friday blog hop team! You know you want to!

Summary of the previous episodes: Viorel has been tortured by his supposed family who wanted to have him burn in the sun. Strangely enough the sun didn't burn him as expected but Viorel has no memory of who he is. Following the advises of his supposed father, he left Sighișoara and is now traveling to the West. After some skirmish in a previous city, he found refuge on a boat. Viorel is now in Vienna. The little problem is that the guy at the inn was a bit of an asshole and helped capture Viorel thinking he was a vampire, which he is but nobody needs to know. Now there is a huge man (which I call the colossi) taking care of Viorel and a priest. They brought a girl. Torture my holy water... Fail. Viorel managed to confuse everyone, now he would like to get out of here. But the girl seems pretty useless. They still managed to escape and he left the girl to the care of the boat lady before going back to have two words with his captors but his power of persuasion were failing him. The priest wanted to crack a deal but Viorel is not really up to help his enemies. He finally got some blood but he can't risk to stay in Vienna. He travel to Linz were he stays a bit to learn German.
Viorel wanted to go to Praha but redirect himself toward Augsburg instead where he wants to get a horse, except that the horses are a bit scared of his vampirism and maybe something else. Viorel is really not a horse expert. Then he comes into an altercation with couple of people, he wants some fear in his blood. The girl Viorel has found seemed to enjoy the game. Viorel prepares for the nightmares that come with a feast of blood, in a rush to leave, he cross the dukedom of Lorrain.
We introduced Sorina, three weeks after the beginning of Viorel's escape.

Now, let's continue with Vampire Heart, right where we left of last week

“I’ll stay here tonight”, Viorel said with a ton that didn’t let space for any contradiction.
The voice of the master woke her from her day dream. She had eaten so little during the last few days that she had problem to concentrate on anything external to her own mind.
“I wanted to kill you, I thought that it would be a very good idea to kill Viorel on the top of your grave when he comes back, because you and his parents seem certain that he will come back for you”, he said.
Sorina didn’t answer, she really hated conversing with him, that was pointless, also after all the time she had spend with Viorel she had learn to stay quiet, talking to him mostly when he was his other self. She looked at the man on the chair near the master. He was the one she had seen the most with Viorel at the inn. He was probably his father. He seemed really tired. That was strange for a vampire. Generally they were always in the same state. She would even have said that he looked older than before but she knew that this was impossible.
“But you see”, the master continued. “Viorel’s father has a all different idea. He thinks that if we transform you into one of us, Viorel will be more eager to come back, you see he will think that he can save you instead of avenge you. And actually he convinced me.”
Sorina tried to crawl back again toward the door but the master stood in front of her the next second. He was moving fast, she blink her eyes unable to see how he had gotten there.
“I won’t change, I won’t drink”, she said feebly as he pulled her up.
“But you don’t have a choice my dear”, he said before digging his fangs in her carotid. She felt the bite as painful as the needles under her nails. She felt all the warmth of her body been drown away as she slowly lost consciousness.

I woke up with a startle holding my heart. I was having difficulty to breath, something was not normal. I had been trying to avoid thinking about what was normal and what was not but the pain in my chest, either for a human or a vampire was not normal. A voice inside my head was calling me. It was the clear and beautiful voice of a girl. She seemed afraid and I wanted to reach her to make her feel good again. That was a strange feeling for me, I never really cared for anyone, except maybe my parents that I barely knew since I left Transylvania. But this voice had something that was reaching my heart and at this particular moment had made it stop beating. I held my head with my free hand and sat up, trying to inhale some air and trying to keep the voice inside my head. I remembered the feeling when the air entered my lungs the first time, the burning and I tried to hold to it, to make it burn me again. The voice was starting to disappear. I didn’t want it to disappear. It was the best thing I had ever heard since I was in Paris, since I was running away, it was the only thing that made me felt like I knew who I was. The voice stopped suddenly and a huge amount of air entered my lungs as my heart started to race again in my chest.
“You’ll die soon”, a hollow voice near me said, taking me out of my thoughts and erasing the last impression the voice in my head had left in my memory.

Thursday Taster 77: Parallel Slip

Hello and welcome to a new Thursday Taster, the day when awesome writers all over the blogosphere come together to give you tasty bits of their last fiction. You can find the list here.
"It was crowded," I answered. "Really?" "I didn't faint if that's what you mean, why do you have to make a big deal of everything I do?"
She didn't have time to answer, the light flickered to let the higher half part of the amphitheater in semi-darkness and someone hit on a microphone at the bottom. I turned my attention to him, digging my hole in my sit to hid from my mother's watch. It was easier to black out when I was resting, especially when the lights went down, especially at school during monologues classes or when the teachers were showing us video, and that's what they intended to do first, show us a movie of the history of the university to show us all the bright people who had studied here and tell us that we were just like us. I yawned and dosed of and kept on catching myself. My mother was throwing my strange looks from time to time. She didn't care a bit what was happening in front of her, all she cared was to see me black out. It would be a lie to say that I was seeing it coming but I could feel sleep coming at least.
"Just sleep," my father whispered.
"Are you crazy? Is that how you encourage her to study?" my mother said.
That was so ironic when she was the one who didn't want me here is the first place.
"It's after lunch, digestion is kicking in, it's dark, she keeps on dosing of, no matter what the lecture is about, it's better to fall asleep for few minutes when you are unable to concentrate then your refreshed when you wake up and you can learn something. If you fight it you just waste the complete lecture," he answered.
It sounded like a good idea. If I was asleep and my mother believed I was without being able to shake me out of sleep because she was three sits away, I might as well black out unnoticed just in front of her nose.
I didn't have time to hear her answered, a round of applause shook me out of my thoughts. Next was a old graduate explaining how physics was so important and how it was essential in this university because people like us were going to change the world. That sounded great but I wasn't sure how much my personal project could change the world. I was dosing of again this time I didn't fight it. The last thing I saw was the desk in front of me as my father took my head to place it on his shoulder.

I blinked three times thinking that I was dreaming but the girl was really floating in front of my with her white dress and long blonde hair turning around her like pushed by a wind I couldn't feel.
I looked around, we were alone in what seemed to be a desert. I was wearing sandals and the hot sand burned my feet, it seemed that my face and arms were covered with sunburns. I didn't know who was my other self, but she had to go through a great deal to reach this place. The other girl finally landed on a large flat rock that seemed to have been made out of sand pieces glued together. Her skin was as white as milk and her eyes light blue with a circle of gold in the middle. She was looking straight at me without blinking and it was a bit disturbing.

Wednesday Snippet: Demon World 54

Welcome to the first Demon World unedited part of the year. We start right where we left of last time.
He was still feeling weak, as if his body was burning from inside. You could see the fever in his eyes which were slowly taking a strange black shape instead of their usual light blue color. Torsti came close to them, making sure to show his back to no one. It was strange to see him walk this way, he was being so cautious, him who earlier had been smashing demons with his huge hammer as easily as he was breathing. Demons were slowly getting up and looking at the three of them on their throne. The scene was a lot different than when they had arrived in the room. When they had arrived, they were many and they felt strong. Now, they were only few of them and they felt broken. They didn’t know what would come next but despise their pain they weren’t ready to stop fighting yet. The guys on the thrones were looking at them and laughing as if pleased by the disastrous spectacle they were offering.
“Those bastards”, the older demon said so softly that only Yue seemed to hear it.
They all seemed to feel the same way about it. The hunters had played them, promised powers stronger than had ever been imagined but they were there standing, broken, but not quite yet.
“Congratulation!” said the demon who hadn’t spoken yet. “Congratulation on becoming more than you ever dreamed of, on achieving your full potential, on erasing from the surface of this earth the one who weren’t strong enough to deserve such glory!”
“It looks like I have won something”, Lonan said happily looking at his brother.
Odeon enforced his grip on his shoulder, Lonan turned back understanding that now was the time to listen at the ugly ones again. He yawn feeling bored. He didn’t like all that stuff much, grown up people were generally so slow at coming to the point. If he had won something they could just give it to him and then he would just go home and enjoy his price. Grown up people always had to make things more complicated than they owned to be. He felt Odeon’s grip on his shoulder getting more and more powerful. Odeon was angry and when Odeon was angry, it was really scary, for everyone around, so he decided to stay quiet and to listen.

Tuesday Cinema: Star Wars episode VII: The Force awakens

I went to see this one at the cinema for Christmas. It will contain spoiler so if you don't want to read spoiler don't read this review.

The story: After the fall of the empire, a new evil arise called the First order. They send soldier to get the mad to Luke Skywalker. General Leia also send her best pilot to get the map on a desert planet. The map is then send in keep of a BB8 unit who met Rei, a scavenger. A defector of the first order named Finn help the pilot escape and crash land on the desert planet where he also met Rei. Together they decide to bring BB8 back home.

My feelings: This wasn't as great as expected. I think the maker based the movie more on nostalgia than on a great story line. Basically every thing is just enhanced. The use of the force by Kylo Ren is enhanced, he is stronger than every Jedy ever. He can take memory out of people's mind, which nobody tried on Leia before, he can freeze laser shots in mid air, while they used to be at best deflected. He is awesome, but he is still beaten in the end by an untrained girl who just discovered that she had the force. Damn, that sucks for him!
My main problem with him though is "what's his excuse?" I mean Anakin had a reason to turn bad, but what's Ben's excuse? Leia and Han Solo must have truly suck as parents for their kid to turn THAT bad.
Then there is Rei, everything about her is good. She is nice and righteous and a freaking genius at everything she does. That was too much. She is like a super best version of all the nice characters. She speaks all the languages, knows all the mechanics, can use the force and kiss ass with a light saber... Ben's ass.
When I said that everything was enhanced, even the weapon is enhanced, the death star.... it's BIGGER. I would have never thought of that!
Everything goes really fast and it seems super easy all the way from getting the BB8 to finding Luke. Just think about Rei's escape. Ben knows that she can use the force but he leaves her alone in the room with only one guard. She is their key to the map but only just one guard! What?!
Ok, I guess that's about enough. It was a nice movie, it had all the Starwars ingredient but that's maybe the problem with it. It was as if they had taken that history repeat itself too literally. What are the odd that the grand-child of Darth Vader would be the one on the wrong side of the force again, making the same mistakes, hasn't he been warned?
