Tuesday Travel 240: Witch Raising: The Book of Earth 87

Welcome to Tuesday Travel. This week we are following Brownie on her journey as she is going toward the second element: Earth.

About Witch Raising.

Witch Raising is a new series with Brownie, the heroine of Demon Soul as the main character. This series is part of the House at the Crossing Series and follows Demon Soul and Demon and Fairy but instead of being centered on the adventure of Sahel and his demon friends, it follows Brownie as she goes from being a normal girl to a bad ass witch. She has been practicing magick for a while now, saving people from difficult situations but the people at the house, including Sahel aren't happy with her new calling. Feeling that she doesn't have a choice and has to keep learning witchcraft, Brownie leaves to meet other witches.

The excerpt starts right where we left off last week.

“Then I'll tell you, just concentrate on the task at hand for now,” Brownie said.

She grabbed the second man by the shoulder and slide him on the floor toward the door. Daphy was yawning and she was getting clumsier and clumsier. Brownie considered the next step, checking to see if the ebony looking demon or one of his friends was appearing anytime near. Her aquamarine was still going crazy which following the circumstances wasn't really helping much. She had no way to judge how far the most immediate danger was.

Once again, this man was stuck in the door between the wagon and the in between wagon platform. Brownie sight with frustration. Her entire body was aching and she was getting hungry. She shouldn't have left the wagon restaurant without finishing lunch but the pull to see the boulder had been too great, and she also wanted to escape Daphy and the cleaning of the table.

Mystery Monday 237: Murder at the Conference 134

Hello mystery lovers and welcome to a new Mystery Monday.
I hope you had a great week-end. Here is a new little part of Murder at the Conference. Murder at the Conference is a stand alone sequel to Harajuku Kiss.

We start right were we left off last week:

“Is that seat taken?”

Christa glanced up without much more reaction.

“No,” I said.

“I wasn't sure you would come but I sure hoped so,” the girl said.

My crazy German friend Deborah Steiner placed her breakfast tray on the table and sat next to me. Deborah was as blond as I had browned hair. She was as tall as I was small. She was in all physical appearance, my complete opposite. And she always had crazy stories about physicist in her lab or at the local conferences and seminars she was regularly attending. She was an experimentalist, she traveled to do her manipulations all over Europe. That was a good life. I wished I could travel more but parallelising huge codes wasn't really part of my side of theory... yet. I hoped one day, to have a chance to work on a huge machine running calculations close to light speed. Sometimes taking a week for one data point tended to be a bit boring.

Vampire Friday: Vampire Heart 451

Welcome to a new part of Vampire Heart unedited. Have you been bitten yet?

Summary of the previous episodes: Viorel has been tortured by his supposed family who wanted to have him burn in the sun. Strangely enough the sun didn't burn him as expected but Viorel has no memory of who he is. Following the advises of his supposed father, he left Sighișoara and is now traveling to the West. After some skirmish in a previous city, he found refuge on a boat. Viorel is now in Vienna. The little problem is that the guy at the inn was a bit of an asshole and helped capture Viorel thinking he was a vampire, which he is but nobody needs to know. Now there is a huge man (which I call the colossi) taking care of Viorel and a priest. They brought a girl. Torture my holy water... Fail. Viorel managed to confuse everyone, now he would like to get out of here. But the girl seems pretty useless. They still managed to escape and he left the girl to the care of the boat lady before going back to have two words with his captors but his power of persuasion were failing him. The priest wanted to crack a deal but Viorel is not really up to help his enemies. He finally got some blood but he can't risk to stay in Vienna. He travel to Linz were he stays a bit to learn German.
Viorel wanted to go to Praha but redirect himself toward Augsburg instead where he wants to get a horse, except that the horses are a bit scared of his vampirism and maybe something else. Viorel is really not a horse expert. Then he comes into an altercation with couple of people, he wants some fear in his blood. The girl Viorel has found seemed to enjoy the game. Viorel prepares for the nightmares that come with a feast of blood, in a rush to leave, he cross the dukedom of Lorrain.
We introduced Sorina, three weeks after the beginning of Viorel's escape.
Viorel dreamed of Sorina and woke up not really remembering anything. Traveling to Paris, he arrives at "La cour des miracles". He is rescued by a stranger who turned out to be Nicolas Flamel, the alchemist he was looking for. Nicolas does some strange experiment without Viorel's agreement. Some people are looking for Nicolas's secrets. On the other side of Europe, Sorina awakes and Viorel's past in haunting him. Viorel discovered that he can change into a wolf but that's not the easiest thing to handle. After finding out that a younger version of Nicolas might not be acting with his best interest at heart, Viorel decides to leave for the north. He is now traveling with two people, Alexej who needed to get out of Praha and Irina who he accidentally rescued.

Now, let's continue with Vampire Heart, right where we left off last time.

Alexei took a step forward again. I looked at him in the eyes. He had to smell it on me, that I wasn't human, that I was something else. Then I found it, the hatred between his kind and mine, something that was going beyond the transformation.

He jumped on me and my wolf form greeted him. We rolled on the floor, away from the closet where Irina was hiding, toward the window. He was back on his feet before me. He looked at me. I wanted him out but I hadn't managed to push him out. I was low on the floor ready to catch him jumping again, but he just sat and howled to the moon and so I did the same and on the other side of the church, Jarek, the new born werewolf responded and Alexei jump through the window. He landed badly on the floor but caught himself and ran. All I could think of was how glad I was to have him run away and not Jarek coming over. There had to be something in the calling but I had no idea what it was.

Thursday Fiction 441: Parallel Slip 2: Rebel

Welcome back to a new Thursday Fiction, it's been a while. We continue with Parallel Slip 2: Rebel where we left of last time, following Isabelle as she figure out who she really is.

But somehow it had grown so bad that she was taken away from school but nobody would acknowledge why. It was just so that she had to be taught to be the heir. It never made much sense to her. All she knew was that she had heard her mother and her uncle arguing that they couldn't let her cry every day. Her mother had made it clear that she never believed her. She always took the side of the other kids, either Malik or anyone else, as if Isabelle couldn't do anything right. And then she had slipped and it had gotten worse because her mother blamed everything on the other universes.

“Are you sure it happened in Hamelin? People don't do that or this in our universe.”

And Isabelle would question herself. Did she made the right choice, did it really happen? Was it all in her head? She felt crazy like the last thing she could trust was her own mind and now Romulus had said to trust herself first, then him.
