About Witch Raising: The Book of Fire

Witch Raising is a new series with Brownie, the heroine of Demon Soul as the main character. This series is part of the House at the Crossing Series and follows Demon Soul and Demon and Fairy but instead of being centered on the adventure of Sahel and his demon friends, it follows Brownie as she goes from being a normal girl to a bad ass witch. She has been practicing magick for a while now, saving people from difficult situations but the people at the house, including Sahel aren't happy with her new calling. Feeling that she doesn't have a choice and has to keep learning witchcraft, Brownie leaves to meet other witches.

The excerpt, we start where we left off last week

The sun was barely rising and the light of the city were still on from the night before. She hadn't really checked the time but it couldn't be later than six in the morning. She never woke up so early but she didn't want to miss the events of the day and she also didn't want to waste anymore time sleeping. Sleeping three days in a row was really terrible. Time in her life that she would never get back. She could have done so many things. She felt a bit terrible about it. It was the price to pay for her magic. Or rather, it was the price to pay for helping people around with everything she'd got. It was a bit terrifying, what if she went to sleep and never woke up again. Because that could happen too.

Her cup of tea was too hot in her hand and blowing on the beverage wasn't helping much with cooling it down. She cut a piece of croissant with her fingers and eat it up looking through the window. There was no activity in the street. There was absolutely nobody there. She didn't know when the festival was supposed to start but it seemed a bit strange that nobody was up to prepare anything already. Nobody else than the baker who he was loading a truck with bread and cases of vienoiseries. Brownie finished her first croissant and saw the guy leave her alone in the bakery while he went to deliver the bread. She wonder if it was like that every morning, if he was going to do the delivery on his own leaving the door open. Anyone could do anything while he was away, that was a really strange thing to do, especially during the festival. She looked around the bakery wondering if there was someone else coming in but there wasn't, she seemed definitely alone in here.

Mystery Monday 79: Harajuku Kiss

Welcome Mystery Monday. For this weekly writing blog post, I will be presenting snippets of my novel Harajuku Kiss, a mystery romance in Japan.
I hope you'll enjoy following our heroine through her thoughts and adventures.

About Harajuku Kiss

At times, life can be so depressing. She is walking her usual recovery tour in Harajuku, finishing with a crepe, trying to forget that her boyfriend dumped her once again for the week-end... When the unthinkable happens... A boy stops in front of her in the street and kisses her, in the middle of the street, before running away.
Trying to discover more about him, she is dragged into a dangerous game of mystery. A biologist has been murdered and a deadly virus is on the loose. First suspect: the mysterious Harajuku's stranger.

Here is the snippet for this week (Check out the previous snippet here)

The person who created this, had added numbers in front of the name of the files to make sure they would appear in the same precise order in each folder. He had to be a total organization freak. Somehow, it didn't fit the image of a guy dropping his important memory stick in the bag of a stranger.
No, the one who created this was extremely meticulous, which made me have a look around and laugh. My room was in such a state, a total disaster. Having everything in one meter radius circle is good do get things done but it sure doesn’t look pretty. The worse part of it was that I was tidying all the time, repeatedly. Then, every time I was caught into something exciting, my room turned into a mess again. I liked being in Japan, in a very small room, because it was taking me even less time to clean up than to make a mess. I couldn’t imagine going back to France and having to clean a two floors house from top to bottom even weekly. It sounded like such a waste of time.

WeWriWar 336: The House at the Crossing 42

Hello everybody and welcome for a new Sunday of writing with Weekend Writing Warrior and Snippet Sunday!
Merry Christmas Everyone!
I hope you had a great time at the end of this crazy year despite the lockdowns and that Santa was really nice to you.

Let's continue with  "The House at the Crossing" and it's a prequel to Demon Soul and the demon series. It's a bit of a mix of Fantasy and Science-fiction.

It follows one of the books more obscure character as she first come into the House. It's suppose to explain why there are so many people is the house and sort of where they come from and at the same time be a first time adventure for the main character as she needs to adapt to her new role and the new version of who she is.

Let's start right at where we left off last week !

I want out of here, but with three kids now, I have no idea where to go and even less how to get there. In all the selves that I reabsorbed - damn if that's not weird - there is not a single one of us, a single part of me who knows about a place to stay and if I walk out with all three kids how am I suppose to get back to a universe where some of them don't even exist. At least, I need out of this kitchen away from Teresa and my other self.
But Teresa stands up.
“Right this way,” she says.
I take the cribs with Ryan and Hiroshi in my other hand while carrying Malicia in my left arm. I look for my suitcase but it's nowhere to be seen, definitely not were I left it. The others suitcases are gone too but I know better than to ask. My other self still has her bag on her shoulders though. At least she was smart about that.

Vampire Friday: Vampire Heart 292

Welcome to a new part of Vampire Heart unedited. Have you been bitten yet? Sign up to be part of our awesome Vampire Friday blog hop team! You know you want to!

Summary of the previous episodes: Viorel has been tortured by his supposed family who wanted to have him burn in the sun. Strangely enough the sun didn't burn him as expected but Viorel has no memory of who he is. Following the advises of his supposed father, he left Sighișoara and is now traveling to the West. After some skirmish in a previous city, he found refuge on a boat. Viorel is now in Vienna. The little problem is that the guy at the inn was a bit of an asshole and helped capture Viorel thinking he was a vampire, which he is but nobody needs to know. Now there is a huge man (which I call the colossi) taking care of Viorel and a priest. They brought a girl. Torture my holy water... Fail. Viorel managed to confuse everyone, now he would like to get out of here. But the girl seems pretty useless. They still managed to escape and he left the girl to the care of the boat lady before going back to have two words with his captors but his power of persuasion were failing him. The priest wanted to crack a deal but Viorel is not really up to help his enemies. He finally got some blood but he can't risk to stay in Vienna. He travel to Linz were he stays a bit to learn German.
Viorel wanted to go to Praha but redirect himself toward Augsburg instead where he wants to get a horse, except that the horses are a bit scared of his vampirism and maybe something else. Viorel is really not a horse expert. Then he comes into an altercation with couple of people, he wants some fear in his blood. The girl Viorel has found seemed to enjoy the game. Viorel prepares for the nightmares that come with a feast of blood, in a rush to leave, he cross the dukedom of Lorrain.
We introduced Sorina, three weeks after the beginning of Viorel's escape.
Viorel dreamed of Sorina and woke up not really remembering anything. Traveling to Paris, he arrives at "La cour des miracles". He is rescued by a stranger who turned out to be Nicolas Flamel, the alchemist he was looking for. Nicolas does some strange experiment without Viorel's agreement. Some people are looking for Nicolas's secrets. On the other side of Europe, Sorina awakes and Viorel's past in haunting him. Viorel discovered that he can change into a wolf but that's not the easiest thing to handle. After finding out that a younger version of Nicolas might not be acting with his best interest at heart, Viorel decides to leave for the north. He is now traveling with two people, Alexej who needed to get out of Praha and Irina who he accidentally rescued.

Now, let's continue with Vampire Heart, right where we left off last week.

“I was still a little girl at that time we had travelled to Riazan in the south of Muscovy we were staying at an inn just like this one, near a forest. Of course my mother was afraid of the wolves that roamed the region and being very careful not to go out after dark and to have the horses hidden in the stable.

The men were laughing and drinking at night, careless as ever. And they came. There were three of them, very green and brown with spikes on their spinal cord and large wings. We were playing outside as they flew about us casting their deadly shadow on the ground. I ran to my mother and we hide in the forest.

I cried, I wanted to go to my room, the forest and the wolves were as scary for me as the dragons. Two of them passed their way down but the third one landed on the ground. I don’t know what really happened because my mother took me deeper in the forest and hide my face in her dress, but I heard the others cry and yell and shout. I heard the sound of death in their throat.

And then it was quiet. Even the birds had stopped singing as if they were already mourning the dead or if they knew that it was better to hide. We walked slowly out of the forest, careful at each steps not to make a sound on a branch, I could barely breathe, I wanted to cry but the tears refused to come out, I wanted to yell but the sound was stuck in my throat.

The inn was on fire, the place I had considered safer than the forest where my mother had taken me was burning with no one to throw a bucket of water at it. It was laying on the ground, his wings around it like a cover, it was eating the dead body of our guards and servants. It’s eyes were dark and narrow as it plunged it’s large beak in their flesh.

My mother took me back to the forest. We stayed there a long time hiding, until someone from the next village came over few days later. When my mother heard the voices, she had a sigh of relieved, something I only heard twice in my life, something that said “we are alive.”

I don’t want to see a dragon again, we are better off as soon as we are done with breakfast.” She said.
She didn’t try to convince me, she thought I was already convinced.
