About Witch Raising: The Book of Fire

Witch Raising is a new series with Brownie, the heroine of Demon Soul as the main character. This series is part of the House at the Crossing Series and follows Demon Soul and Demon and Fairy but instead of being centered on the adventure of Sahel and his demon friends, it follows Brownie as she goes from being a normal girl to a bad ass witch. She has been practicing magick for a while now, saving people from difficult situations but the people at the house, including Sahel aren't happy with her new calling. Feeling that she doesn't have a choice and has to keep learning witchcraft, Brownie leaves to meet other witches.

The excerpt, we start where we left off last week

The train stopped at Fireden and she hadn't yet made her mind about staying a bit to look around or just hopping in the next train. She picked up her bag and Viorel's food. The train station was made of wood, all painted in red and yellow as if they had been trying to represent fire. There were two large lion on each side of the door leading from the dock's gate to the inside. Brownie bet that this would attract tourist, it was rather impressive. It was attracting her in a way, she had never seen anything like it before.
She walked passed the lions. The station was so crowded that she instinctively clung at her bags a bit tighter. She hadn't been expected so many people, Fireden was a rather small place a woman in her fifties was distributing pamphlet on the opposite side. Brownie took one. It was colorful with fire designs all around.
It was advertising the beginning of the autumn fire lion festival starting the next day. That had a pull to it that Brownie couldn't resist, it seemed like too much for being a coincidence, the fast that she had left today, picked this train out of the other possibility and arrived now to this place, with all this people walking toward the exit of the station at the same time as her, that was rather close to synchronicity to be just a coincidence and the fact that it was Fireden too and that she had just left her fire demon boyfriend. If it wasn't magic trying to talk to her she didn't know what it was. She looked back at the two lion guarding the gate and took a deep breath asking what she should do. She didn't dare to close her eyes to go deeper as people around were bumping into each other.
"Stay and learn," came to her mind, "Learn about the fire and it's transformative power. The fire melt the metal, the fire build earth and glass."
That was an order from the goddess of sort. She had no other choice than to obey and she felt rather happy about it. The Autumn Fire Lion festival sounded like a lot of fun.
The street in front of the station was packet with taxis and buses stopped, people with suitcases who had known to come here for a festival she didn't even know existed before blindly being guided to it by the forces of the universe. Maybe she had seen it on TV before but she couldn't really be sure. She hadn't watched TV for so long she wasn't even sure if it had ever been on it.
The lion representation looked funny though, very red with a colorful crown of... something, flowers or fruit or jewel. She wasn't sure.
What had the goddess whispered to her? The fire melt the metal, the fire build earth and glass."
She understands the melting par but building earth and glass she wasn't sure. Wasn't Earth always powerful, always prevalent because it stayed put no matter what element it faced. The planet was always there. Could Earth really be build by fire other than a star explosition and gravity. She didn't quite get the meaning, so that's what she had to learn.
She walked around for a bit, looking for a hostel or an inn or something. As it was the festival they were mostly fully booked and she needed a cheap one if she wanted to get money to last her long enough. She wasn't really sure what to do so she took off her aquamarine medallion and used it as a pendulum. She had never done it before. She had no real idea what she was doing but she still followed her instinct. If she was on this journey to fix her magic, she might as well dive into it and see where to start into fixing it. So pendulum it was. The stone didn't move though, she pushed and pushed her intention into it but there was no need. She wasn't Saphira, she couldn't deal with it.
Someone laughed on her left.

Mystery Monday 44: Harajuku Kiss

Welcome Mystery Monday. For this weekly writing blog post, I will be presenting snippets of my novel Harajuku Kiss, a mystery romance in Japan.
I hope you'll enjoy following our heroine through her thoughts and adventures.

About Harajuku Kiss

At times, life can be so depressing. She is walking her usual recovery tour in Harajuku, finishing with a crepe, trying to forget that her boyfriend dumped her once again for the week-end... When the unthinkable happens... A boy stops in front of her in the street and kisses her, in the middle of the street, before running away.
Trying to discover more about him, she is dragged into a dangerous game of mystery. A biologist has been murdered and a deadly virus is on the loose. First suspect: the mysterious Harajuku's stranger.

Here is the snippet for this week

What a thief! Kissing his victims as a payment for ripping them off. I was certainly not the first he had tried that on seeing how good he was at it, and the thought made me angry. He was unforgivable no matter how good looking he was and he wasn’t that good looking after all, he was just ok looking at best, no, not even ok looking.

I went through my stuff madly, trying to remember what I had brought out with me this afternoon. The good thing is, I change bag so often I remembered easily what I put inside: my purse, my phone, my notebook in case I was to get depressed or crazy and needed to write to evacuate stress, some tissues for my never stopping broken-hearted girl’s runny-nose, my book as I never missed a dead moment to study Japanese, my camera, my passport... Everything was here!

WeWriWar 315: The House at the Crossing 20

Hello everybody and welcome for a new Sunday of writing with Weekend Writing Warrior and Snippet Sunday!

I decided to change things a little bit so for the next few months, I'm going to present you my new WIP. It's called "The House at the Crossing" and it's a prequel to Demon Soul and the demon series. It's a bit of a mix of Fantasy and Science-fiction.
It follows one of the books more obscure character as she first come into the House. It's suppose to explain why there are so many people is the house and sort of where they come from and at the same time be a first time adventure for the main character as she needs to adapt to her new role and the new version of who she is.

Since it's a WIP, and I still haven't finished the first draft, it's still really row. Hopefully, we'll see some improvement as it goes.

Let's start right at where we left off last week!

I shake my head as I close the drawer and reopen it not really sure what to expect except for spoons and knifes and... a huge assortment of tea with a special lavender-vanilla packet, the exact same I had at home.
When I turn back around, there are a lot more cups on the table, the room is bigger, and they are so many versions of me that I can't count them. I feel like I'm going to faint and I'm not the only one. Some of the other me too, they look so pale. Everybody is looking around, wondering, just like I do about me, us, whatever. I need to get out of here and fast. I don't know this place. I don't know what's happening and I'm in the verge of panic.

Vampire Friday: Vampire Heart 258

Welcome to a new part of Vampire Heart unedited. Have you been bitten yet? Sign up to be part of our awesome Vampire Friday blog hop team! You know you want to!

Summary of the previous episodes: Viorel has been tortured by his supposed family who wanted to have him burn in the sun. Strangely enough the sun didn't burn him as expected but Viorel has no memory of who he is. Following the advises of his supposed father, he left Sighișoara and is now traveling to the West. After some skirmish in a previous city, he found refuge on a boat. Viorel is now in Vienna. The little problem is that the guy at the inn was a bit of an asshole and helped capture Viorel thinking he was a vampire, which he is but nobody needs to know. Now there is a huge man (which I call the colossi) taking care of Viorel and a priest. They brought a girl. Torture my holy water... Fail. Viorel managed to confuse everyone, now he would like to get out of here. But the girl seems pretty useless. They still managed to escape and he left the girl to the care of the boat lady before going back to have two words with his captors but his power of persuasion were failing him. The priest wanted to crack a deal but Viorel is not really up to help his enemies. He finally got some blood but he can't risk to stay in Vienna. He travel to Linz were he stays a bit to learn German.
Viorel wanted to go to Praha but redirect himself toward Augsburg instead where he wants to get a horse, except that the horses are a bit scared of his vampirism and maybe something else. Viorel is really not a horse expert. Then he comes into an altercation with couple of people, he wants some fear in his blood. The girl Viorel has found seemed to enjoy the game. Viorel prepares for the nightmares that come with a feast of blood, in a rush to leave, he cross the dukedom of Lorrain.
We introduced Sorina, three weeks after the beginning of Viorel's escape.
Viorel dreamed of Sorina and woke up not really remembering anything. Traveling to Paris, he arrives at "La cour des miracles". He is rescued by a stranger who turned out to be Nicolas Flamel, the alchemist he was looking for. Nicolas does some strange experiment without Viorel's agreement. Some people are looking for Nicolas's secrets. On the other side of Europe, Sorina awakes and Viorel's past in haunting him. Viorel discovered that he can change into a wolf but that's not the easiest thing to handle. After finding out that a younger version of Nicolas might not be acting with his best interest at heart, Viorel decides to leave for the north. He is now traveling with two people, Alexej who needed to get out of Praha and Irina who he accidentally rescued.

Now, let's continue with Vampire Heart, right where we left off last week

I walked back to the bed my fist closed around the philosopher stone. It was making me sick but for the moment I thought I could as well pay the price for getting back those memories. I was also feeling good about having had happy time with Sorina. We had known happiness before the British vampire came, we were happy and knowing how to do that was convincing me that we could be happy again someday. I lay back down and turned the stone in my hand. I was wondering if I could guide me memories, I wanted to know if the day of my condemnation had been the only day when I had walked in the sun in my human looking form. I placed my finger tip in the stone and the cold wave propagated along my arm again. I felt it search for something inside of my brain and it finally found it. I was in the top floor of the castle and fighting against my dad with my sword in my left hand.
“So you met that vampire twice,” my dad asked.
“Yes,” I answered paring one of his blow, I had been drawing back for a long time, I knew that I wouldn’t be able to do it for too long anymore.
“What’s his name again?” my father asked.
“Dylan,” I said. I had Dylan’s bracelet in my pocket, I wasn’t sure what to do with it.
“That’s a very curious name, I have never heard of anything like it before,” my father said. “What does he want from you exactly?”
“I’m not sure,” I said attacking, for once I had the advantage over my father but I knew it wouldn’t last long if we continued to talk. He could fight and talk, I couldn’t.
