Vampire Friday: Vampire Heart 416

Welcome to a new part of Vampire Heart unedited. Have you been bitten yet? 

Summary of the previous episodes: Viorel has been tortured by his supposed family who wanted to have him burn in the sun. Strangely enough the sun didn't burn him as expected but Viorel has no memory of who he is. Following the advises of his supposed father, he left Sighișoara and is now traveling to the West. After some skirmish in a previous city, he found refuge on a boat. Viorel is now in Vienna. The little problem is that the guy at the inn was a bit of an asshole and helped capture Viorel thinking he was a vampire, which he is but nobody needs to know. Now there is a huge man (which I call the colossi) taking care of Viorel and a priest. They brought a girl. Torture my holy water... Fail. Viorel managed to confuse everyone, now he would like to get out of here. But the girl seems pretty useless. They still managed to escape and he left the girl to the care of the boat lady before going back to have two words with his captors but his power of persuasion were failing him. The priest wanted to crack a deal but Viorel is not really up to help his enemies. He finally got some blood but he can't risk to stay in Vienna. He travel to Linz were he stays a bit to learn German.

Viorel wanted to go to Praha but redirect himself toward Augsburg instead where he wants to get a horse, except that the horses are a bit scared of his vampirism and maybe something else. Viorel is really not a horse expert. Then he comes into an altercation with couple of people, he wants some fear in his blood. The girl Viorel has found seemed to enjoy the game. Viorel prepares for the nightmares that come with a feast of blood, in a rush to leave, he cross the dukedom of Lorrain.
We introduced Sorina, three weeks after the beginning of Viorel's escape.
Viorel dreamed of Sorina and woke up not really remembering anything. Traveling to Paris, he arrives at "La cour des miracles". He is rescued by a stranger who turned out to be Nicolas Flamel, the alchemist he was looking for. Nicolas does some strange experiment without Viorel's agreement. Some people are looking for Nicolas's secrets. On the other side of Europe, Sorina awakes and Viorel's past in haunting him. Viorel discovered that he can change into a wolf but that's not the easiest thing to handle. After finding out that a younger version of Nicolas might not be acting with his best interest at heart, Viorel decides to leave for the north. He is now traveling with two people, Alexej who needed to get out of Praha and Irina who he accidentally rescued.

 

 

Now, let's continue with Vampire Heart, right where we left off last time.

 

The man supposed to tortured me ran after Jorge after I showed him my fangs. I move on my chair like the real devil but the rope around my wrists wouldn't loosen. The inn keeper and his wife had been under my protection, they were mine and that was the worse thing to think they were dead because of me, and Irina. I had still so much to learn from her. It was ok for me to play with and kill my humans but if someone was to become my human there was no way that I was going to let anybody hurt them or stay unpunished after they hurt them. Jorge was going to feel whatever worse I could give him and that meant I was going to use his own tool on him and serve him to the dragons.

"What makes you so mad?"

It was my guard again.

"Aren't you worried about the books?"

"Even if I was allowed to enter the room to fix the fire, which I doubt, I wouldn't have any rights to read them anyway," he said.

"That man is a monster," I said.

"But why are you so mad suddenly?" He asked again.

I was still trying to loosen my cords which entered my wrists.

"He killed my humans," I said.

"Is that something of your doing? Did your friends come from the other side to get you out of here?"

"As you said earlier, I'm a lonely vampire with nobody traveling with me," I said.

"We found your inn and the inn keeper said there were three of you and that he didn't know you were a vampire because you all ate human food," Jorge said.

They had Irina, my Irina, the thought made me crazy.

"The inn keeper," I said. "You are so funny still thinking that vampire can live in the middle of humans without biting them."

"He and his wife had no traces of bite, but we took our precautions," Jorge said.

"You..."

"I killed them, they stayed with the devil for too long, even pretended that you saved the woman's life, pathetic," Jorge said. "I'll finish with you later."

"I'll kill you, I'll kill you," I raged as Jorge run away to his precious books. "I'll kill you."

He stopped to look at me perplex.

"That's not good enough yet, really, I can barely feel the tightness, it's supposed to hurt already and penetrate my skin before you can even start thinking about doing the job," I continued.

He tightened it a bit more. I was starting to hurt but I didn't said anything, it was mostly because of the strange fold in my shirt beneath it.

"Hum, I'm not sure it's placed correctly," I said, "It needs to encompass my shoulder blade."

He stopped again to look at Jorge. He wasn't sure what he was doing anymore, I was propagating the doubt in his head.

"Shut up and let him do his work," Jorge said.

"I'm sorry, I was just trying to help, I don't want you to waste precious time with only half perfect shots, you know the sun is going to rise soon," I said.

"Continue," Jorge said.

"Fire! Fire!" A man entered the room. "Fire in the library!"

"That's the only place worth to visit, you might want to fix it for me, I'm a little bit tight up," I said.

Jorge threw me a look filled with hatred but that was nothing I wasn't used to.

"What's your purpose on using these tools on me anyway, I'm in a pretty chatty mood, I would tell you everything you want," I said.

"But I don't trust you or anything you say and I want the truth and to make sure that you tell the truth I'll blow your mind with enough pain that you won't be trying any petty trick on me," Jorge said then turning to the Jäger with the tools. "I thought I told you to start already."

The man smiled and walked toward me tool in hand. I looked at him straight in the eyes. He knew what he was doing with that but his spirit was weak. I needed to get around him.

"Oh, I know this one, it is made to dislocate shoulder's isn't it?"

The man growled placing the tool on my shoulder. They had used it on Alexei too. It had been rubbed with alcohol and the smell was nauseating. He didn't even bother to open my shirt but place the tool on the top of it which I was already grateful for. He tightened it slowly trying to build some anticipation of pain.

"A little bit more, a little bit more," I said, "You need to make sure that it won't slip when you hit it."

"That's too bad, poisoning your own people," I answered.

"You were the one killing him," Jorge said.

"I left enough blood in him to make sure he wouldn't have the slightest heart failure, his blood was tasty and I wanted to ask him what he had done to make it that way," I said.

"His blood had nothing special," Jorge said.

"Special herbal treatment, pre-christian, if I recall," I said. "You are Christian priest so I wondered why..."

"Get started," Jorge said.

He was obviously not comfortable to talk about the herbal cocktail in the boy's blood. Sorcery was forbidden, even for the Jäger, they were still Christian. I was so troubled by what was going on here.

"Oh, I hit a sensitive cord it seems, I'm sorry," I said. "I have this vision of Christians, you know, all about being nice and avoiding the devil and burning it when it comes too close."

"So maybe you would prefer it if we burned you," Jorge said.

"Well, you kept that for the end, didn't you, tomorrow morning, at the mess, public execution, that is going to be a terrific sight that they won't be forgetting anytime soon."

"So, changing your mind?" Jorge said.

Blood started to leak from Alexei's ear. He had to have a bad brain injury. I looked at it fixedly and stopped listening to Jorge's talk. It was nonsensical anyway. I needed a way out of here or Alexei was going to die soon. He was breathing strangely.

"I think you owe to take care of him," I said.

"Why are you so concern about the wolf?" Jorge asked.

"The blood is leaking from his ear, it makes me hungry, I don't know what I might do, hunger gives me power," I said.

Once again that was a blatant lie but I didn't know what else to do.

"Yes, it seems that you are a lot less discriminate with what you drink than the other vampires I captured before you, we had to use a lot more sophisticated tricks to get them to drink anything," Jorge said.

"How is the boy?" I knew it was dead but I wanted the people around Jorge to know that I wasn't the one who had killed him. It might not make a difference or it might make all the difference in the world.

"He is dead," Jorge said.

"That depends what you want to talk about," I said.

"You're very curious, the others before you just stayed silent and watched the instruments. They were afraid of course but I never could get a single sound out of them, not even at the worse moments, when the pain had to be incredible, they never gave me the pleasure of a chat or the pleasure of a cry," he said.

"Vampire have a very high level of pain tolerance, way higher than the level of humans," I said. "What you did to them might have just tickled a bit."

I regretted the words as soon as they crossed my lips but I could still used a bit of bragging. I was going to cry and yell and I knew it.

"That's very strange indeed, I was sure we were way above the threshold you use on each other," Jorge said.

He didn't believe a single word getting out of my mouth.

After some skirmish in a previous city, he found refuge on a boat. Viorel is now in Vienna. The little problem is that the guy at the inn was a bit of an asshole and helped capture Viorel thinking he was a vampire, which he is but nobody needs to know. Now there is a huge man (which I call the colossi) taking care of Viorel and a priest. They brought a girl. Torture my holy water... Fail. Viorel managed to confuse everyone, now he would like to get out of here. But the girl seems pretty useless. They still managed to escape and he left the girl to the care of the boat lady before going back to have two words with his captors but his power of persuasion were failing him. The priest wanted to crack a deal but Viorel is not really up to help his enemies. He finally got some blood but he can't risk to stay in Vienna. He travel to Linz were he stays a bit to learn German.

Viorel wanted to go to Praha but redirect himself toward Augsburg instead where he wants to get a horse, except that the horses are a bit scared of his vampirism and maybe something else. Viorel is really not a horse expert. Then he comes into an altercation with couple of people, he wants some fear in his blood. The girl Viorel has found seemed to enjoy the game. Viorel prepares for the nightmares that come with a feast of blood, in a rush to leave, he cross the dukedom of Lorrain.
We introduced Sorina, three weeks after the beginning of Viorel's escape.
Viorel dreamed of Sorina and woke up not really remembering anything. Traveling to Paris, he arrives at "La cour des miracles". He is rescued by a stranger who turned out to be Nicolas Flamel, the alchemist he was looking for. Nicolas does some strange experiment without Viorel's agreement. Some people are looking for Nicolas's secrets. On the other side of Europe, Sorina awakes and Viorel's past in haunting him. Viorel discovered that he can change into a wolf but that's not the easiest thing to handle. After finding out that a younger version of Nicolas might not be acting with his best interest at heart, Viorel decides to leave for the north. He is now traveling with two people, Alexej who needed to get out of Praha and Irina who he accidentally rescued.

 

 

Now, let's continue with Vampire Heart, right where we left off last time.

 

"That's an interesting reply," Jorge said. "I had never considered it that way."

"Well, I could explain you the purposed of each of them," I said.

"It's all in this book, it's all in this book." Jorge moved a heavy leather covered book in front of my nose and hit the cover with his flat hand making the thin layer of dust fly away. I would have loved to read that book.

"Can I see it?" I asked.

"It's classified information," Jorge said standing up straight again and taking the book away from my sight as if I was going to snatch it from his hands.

I was attached to a chair with my wrists behind my back but he was still somehow afraid of me and afraid of what I would do with some more knowledge. He wasn't going to kill me straight away, but he definitely should have.

"I'm sorry I asked, I just wanted to crosscheck the information you have with the information I have," I said.

"Do you have any information you want to give me?"

Jorge's voice was sweeter. He expected me to be afraid. I was afraid. It was maybe the only time I wished that I didn't know what the cooking tools were for. The knowledge scared me and the fear made my brain slow and fuzzy, still I tried to concentrate on Jorge.

Vampire Friday: Vampire Heart 408

Summary of the previous episodes: Viorel has been tortured by his supposed family who wanted to have him burn in the sun. Strangely enough the sun didn't burn him as expected but Viorel has no memory of who he is. Following the advises of his supposed father, he left Sighișoara and is now traveling to the West. After some skirmish in a previous city, he found refuge on a boat. Viorel is now in Vienna. "This one," he said pointing at the tool the man was now cleaning with alcohol from Alexei's blood. The smell of the mix was irritating and I dreaded to have the instrument touch my skin, it was going to be itchy even before cutting it.

"It was made to enter your inside and remove little part of the inner skin so that you would bleed inside of yourself. What kind of monster can create something like this?" Jorge continued.

Uncle Vlad, damned, damned uncle Vlad, a lot of these had been created in his maniac mind and even if I had never seen the purpose of it I could understand where he was coming from. These to vampires were cooking tools, just like humans used knifes and ladles but that wasn't something I could possibly explain to Jorge. The result of vampire torture on vampires was to get them into hard pain to punish them for mistakes. I knew that because that's what they wanted to do with me, until I died out of it with the sunshine. The purpose of vampire torture on human was to raise their fear and make them sweat and have their heart race to a special speed and propagate the blood inside of them faster. Uncle Vlad's instruments were design so that all blood was to stay inside of the body because vampire didn't like to waste blood. Of course, a good kill was a good kill but when playing with our food, when cooking it, we tended to be very careful. Only the human brought to the castle for special festivals were cooked with those tools. It was a special treat, if we were hunting and eating out, we wouldn't carry those, we would just eat whatever the restaurant was to serve.

"A cook," I answered.

"It's one of the infamous thing we learned from you, torture," Jorge said in my back.

He wasn't going to touch these tools, that was bellow him. He was only going to watch and try an enjoy the show.

"Humans are very sensitive to pain, we ourselves would never have considered such practice on another," he said.

"You'd be surprised," I said.

"Your kind invented the greatest torment in this world's history," Jorge said. "These instruments mostly come from Transilvania, just like you, it is only fair that they are to be used and tested on one of your kind."

"Roman and Greek practiced torture on their slaves since antiquity," I said.

"But never on one of their peer," Jorge answered.

"Vampires don't torture other vampires," I said my tongue burning at the lie.

The new comers were the first one to suffer from uncle Vlad's critical treatment and even I...

"Don't take me for a fool, you yourselves have been in the hands of your peers," Jorge said.

He laughed and his laugh didn't even sound half as insane as I expected.

"Killing seems to be all that you can do," he said. "Such a pathetic life."

"There is more to killing than you can imagine," I answered. "Killing is an art."

"I don't see anything artistic in the bodies on the floor," Jorge answered.

"Sometimes killing is a necessity," I said.

"You are just an animal with words in a human body, an aberration of nature," Jorge said.

"That's a way of seeing things," I answered.

"Take him!"

The order was quickly followed and I found myself attached to a chair in front of Alexei, whose face I could barely recognize. I would need to use the philosopher's stone on him if I wanted him to have a chance to survive. His eyes were so blackened that I first thought they were gone and he seemed to choke with every breathe. I couldn't figure out what they had wanted from him so badly to torture him until he was physically unable to speak.

I remember that time when I had fallen at the hand of my first Jäger. He wasn't as well organized as these ones, he was crazier I believe and alone. This time they had a entire team to take care of me and they were already preparing their instruments in front of me. I knew that practice of intimidation, it was the same my uncle had use on me the very first time I was tortured. I had to admit it was frightening, even more because I knew exactly how to use every single tools on that table to increase the pain to a maximum while keeping the victim thinking and praying for it to stop. I was not going to pray.

"And can I know what sort of information you managed to get out of him?"

 

"It seems that he is a lonely vampire. There won't be anyone out there looking for him," my guard said.

 

"I already knew that," Jorge said. "Open the door." 

 

My guard took the rusty key chain at his side and concentrated too much on choosing the right key. He was slower than he should have been as if he wanted to buy me sometimes. Time for what? I didn't know but I still stood up. The key turned in the lock and the door opened wide. I jumped on the first guard entering the room. It wasn't the best move to prove to my guard that I wasn't a monster but one less of them meant more chances to get out for me. I managed to disarm him and to grab the pommel of his sword. I sliced the second guard in the middle and the arm of the first in one move. They shouldn't have brought such sharp swords in my cell. They both fell on the floor but the third one hit me at the back of the neck and I saw stars. The fourth one took my sword away while the light splashed in front of my eyes. When I recovered they were holding me tight. Two out of four was not a bad result and I smiled at Jorge.
