Witch Raising is a new series with Brownie, the heroine of Demon Soul as the main character. She has been practicing magick for a while now, saving people from difficult situations but the people at the house, including Sahel aren't happy with her new calling. Feeling that she doesn't have a choice and has to keep learning witchcraft, Brownie leaves to meet other witches. 

 

The excerpt, we start right where we left off last week.

 

Brownie yell but she strangled herself on the word. Her eyes were painful as if they had been filled with dust and she couldn't see straight. She still felt the pain in her chest from the broken heart and from not being able to breath and the air smelled like blood, her own thick and red blood. She felt the hotness of it on her skin, the stickiness.

“I'm making sure the controller think we are not here, I casted a invisible sleep spell, didn't you notice.”

Daphy's words only partially register. Magic bad. Was the only thing Brownie really comprehended right now. She took a few more deep breathes and stroke her eyes multiple time.

The excerpt, we start right where we left off last week.

This was the moment when Brownie in the train's wagon was supposed to wake up. She wasn't supposed to sleep through her death, she had never before. But she started suffocating. There was no way to wake up. She was so tired she fought in her dream as her breath left her. She felt like she was going to die with her past self, she couldn't breath and she couldn't wake up.

“Seriously, can't you sleep calmly,” said a voice bellow her.

Brownie opened her eyes with a startle. She finally caught a breath.

“How am I supposed to make the controler believe this cabine is empty if you keep on kicking and screaming against my spell.”

“What!”

The excerpt, we start right where we left off last week.

 

“Nooo,” the demon roared but it was too late, Brownie's past self was getting away from him, escaping him finally and he would have no use for all the spoiled blood. Even without magic, she could still sense what was right. He crowled toward her but there was not enough blood left in her. He stood back up. Brownie's past self was looking at him as her eyes started to veil. She didn't want him to be the last thing she saw but she didn't have any choice, she couldn't move but she tried to smiled. The demon opened the earth beneath her and she fell hard on her back. He was way above, she tried to yell in a sudden panic realizing this time that she was going to die. He closed the hole on top of her, burying her alive.

However, the little display of magic of Brownie's other self didn't last long and wasn't enough to protect her from the demon. He fell on the bed and stood up quickly. He grabbed her by an arm and pulled her up. Her body was limp in front of him but she looked straight at his face, she was terrified.

“I said, your blood will be mine witch and I intent to get what I came for.”

He bite her neck. Brownie didn't know if it was a sudden act of bravery or a reaction to pain but her past self gathered herself up and pushed the demon as much as he could. He detached himself from her taking a huge piece of her neck in the process and let her fall on the floor her blood floating the black wood of the bedroom.

The excerpt, we start right where we left off last week.

The man spun her around and stroke her cheek, scratching it with his finger nail, drawing blood, wings had grown out in his back breaking his shirt that hung open stuck in the belt of his trousers.

“Tonight, after many life, your blood is finally mine witch,” the demon said.

Brownie wanted to yell to her past self to run away but there was no use both their voice were gone. A tear rolled on her past self cheek as the demon threw her on the bed. The tear mixed to the blood and the moment he jumped on her, a force pushed away from her and he remained stuck in the air above the bed. Brownie's past self stayed stunned for a moment, a lot longer than Brownie did but finally rolled away from the bed just to cower in a corner of the room pulling herself into a ball as far away into the wall as she could as if she was going to disappear.

Brownie swallowed hard. She had never done that before, she had never been alone in a bedroom with a man, not even her father, she was scared, she didn't know what to do. She didn't want to do anything, if she did something wrong, that would be worse. But Brownie coudln't imagine how things could get worse. She was trying to detach from her past self but she couldn't. She was dragged in a train of thought that this was the best she could get that if she behaved as he wanted her too, everything will be all right.

He pulled on the lace of her wedding gone and ripped the fabric apart with a crack. Brownie was left in her undergarment a white and thin piece of fabric covering her only. Once again she wanted to run but she was unable to move.

He was a good man, that's what she was trying to repeat to herself in her head. Everybody loved him. He was supposed to be the best catch in the village and he wanted her. She was the lucky one but she didn't fell lucky.

When she entered her nuptial bedroom or more accurately was pushed toward it forcefully by the man that was now her husband, everything was black except for the bed sheet, the floor was black, the wall was black, the bed was black.

“I have been waiting for this moment for so long, to finally possess you,” the man said.

He grabbed her chin with his hand and pulled her head up for her to look at him, she kept her eyes down so that her eyes never really met his.

“You will be mine very soon,” he said.

She didn't answer, she was shaking like a leaf. Her body was in fight or fly mode, ready to fly but she was like a deer taken by the light of a car in the middle of the road. Her brain couldn't register.

“Tomorrow daughter, tomorrow we will celebrate the wedding,” her father said.

He seemed happy.

Brownie was sewing when looked like her wedding gone. She stuck her finger with the needle an a drop of blood feel on the immaculate white fabric. It wasn't white any more nor immaculate but she didn't care. She didn't love the man her father was giving her too and she knew she would have to cook his meal and share his bed and do all the task he would ask of her.

She wanted to die but she was too cowardly to take her own life. For Brownie, this was infuriating. She had fought so much, in so many life, she was so strong but his version of herself was crowling into submission and couldn't even think straight about saving herself. For sure it was a differrent time but this Brownie was helpless, she didn't even have magic, at least not yet. Brownie wanted to help her but she couldn't do anything in her past life but watch as her own heart was taking blow after blow and the old wound that never seemed to have fully healed opened again.

She wanted to hate herself for her weakness but she couldn't. It was as if she was sucked into the mode of thinking of her past self, something terrible would happen if she talked back, something terrible would become of her, even worse that marrying the terrible man.

There was a man standing with her father. This one at least, Brownie recognise. It was the main demon after her. He was a constant in all her past lifes as well as in this one, he had been looking for her. She was wearing an imperial uniform of high rank. Brownie knew as much but she couldn't remember more, her past life self wasn't telling her more, she lowered her head in front of the men, looking down toward their knees but she was still listening as they talked about her as if she wasn't there. She was boiling on the inside but she couldn't fight. She was a girl and she couldn't talk to men without being invited to do so and then she would have to say something pleasing, something they wanted to hear. She didn't want to marry that man but she would have too and she was scared because she was waiting for the two boys to come back but they might never make it in time.

The excerpt, we start right where we left off last week.

 

The scenery went back to the little girl making a corona of flower but she wasn't singing any more, she was crying. It was a different day. She wore a very dark blue dress with a bright yellow top. The fabric was really nice and Brownie wondered how rich her family had been at that time. The wind was blowing on the grass next to her but her hair wouldn't move as they used to, they were tight on the top of her head and she could feel the painful pin keeping them in place but she was scared to touch her hair to fix them. Where she had been only joy before until the boys left, there was only fear and pain now.

She was called and she stood up and transformed into an older Brownie still carrying the corona of flower. She placed it around a poll make of superposed little rocks. She have probably done that herself and the surrounding area was covered of those corona of flower which had been drying in the sun for too long.

But these boys, she couldn't figure out who they were and how they were relevant to her even if she felt that she needed them so much. She was looking at them going further and further, she tried to stop herself from running after them but she couldn't control her past life's body and once again the little Brownie fell on the hard stones of the road and scratched both her knees through her bright pink dress that was worned and bloodied really quickly. She cried, so hard but not for her knees, she had a broken heart that Brownie left would never really mend. That was basically when she would wake up generally with an atrocious chest pain and because she always woke up after dying in all her other past life dreams, she had thought that this was the moment when the little Brownie who couldn't be older than five or six years old had died on the road that day from a broken heart. But no matter how painful her chest was, she didn't wake up. She turned and stirred in her couch, uncomfortable, and tears rolling down her cheeks but the dream continued.

The thing that didn't work were all the spells she had casted to get his sould back before managing to find the right one. The things that didn't work well now were the things she did when she was just a novice, when she didn't know what she was doing and thought nothing was happening well, things were happening and a void was trying to engulf her now, she could see it. It was like a damockles sword hanging above her head and ready to fall any minute and no matter what Sahel said, no matter if he could see it or not, this wasn't something she could avoid resolving, it was her life and to save herself, she needed magic and all the help she could get about it, not a know-it-all demon who knew nothing bossing her around.

She couldn't deal with the belittling any more or with him treating her like she was a junky when all she did was trying to make her life better and fix the spell that missfired when she was getting his sould back. Somehow, when it was for him, he didn't really bother to know where he was coming from, what she had done to get his soul back. He knew but somehow pretended like it was irrelevent to her current problem, to her never ending fears. Of course, when she had decided to drink that formula that was giving her back her past life knowledge, that was on her but she had done that right and it worked even if it was mostly nightmarish in her past.

It was a bit confusing. Maybe there were people she hadn't met yet that she needed in her life in ways she didn't expect. When she found Yue, she thought she was going to be with him for the rest of her life but things didn't turn out that way. Then when she got Sahel instead she was a bit confused but decided to take care of him. Now he was bi enough to be his own man, he didn't need her protection any more at least not in very daily life noticeable ways and it made things better and more complicated at the same time. And she had dumped him. That was something she never thought she would do. She felt like she was always the one being dumped, behind betrayed, being left alone but somehow this time, she had taken a stand for herself. Not because she didn't love him any more but because she had finally decided that she loved herself more.

Witch Raising is a new series with Brownie, the heroine of Demon Soul as the main character. This series is part of the House at the Crossing Series and follows Demon Soul and Demon and Fairy but instead of being centered on the adventure of Sahel and his demon friends, it follows Brownie as she goes from being a normal girl to a bad ass witch. She has been practicing magick for a while now, saving people from difficult situations but the people at the house, including Sahel aren't happy with her new calling. Feeling that she doesn't have a choice and has to keep learning witchcraft, Brownie leaves to meet other witches. 

 

The excerpt, we start right where we left off last week.

 

As a little girl in the dream, she was singing in a language that Brownie didn't understand but it was something about asking someone who was too far away to come back. Two boys had been taken. Apparently they were little Brownie's playmate. Brownie was transported to that day. She didn't know how it works but this life was stuck in a pattern, always the same. She was running after a cart while the two boys were taken away. There was a big on and a small one, probably two brothers. The younger one was crying and spreading his arm towards her. The second one was stopping the younger one from falling by holding him back. He was looking at Brownie too, he looked so sad that tears rolled on Brownie's face. For a while, she thought he was Yue, or Sahel but he didn't have the characteristic Sahel took in her other past lifes.

Tuesday Travel 165: Witch Raising: The Book of Earth 12

Welcome to Tuesday Travel. This week we are following Brownie on her journey as she is going toward the second element: Earth.

Brownie knew this life, she had visited time and time again. The thing she didn't understand was why was this life so relevant that she was always coming back to it. With so many past lifes to choose from, she should have been more than done with it already. She was so small when she died. Maybe that was the reason. Maybe her past self couldn't express herself fully. She hadn't seen much of it all, just a few scenes but still always the same and she wasn't sure she could entangle them.

She wore those very bright colored dresses. The first one was white at the top but then pink at the bottom with a yellow ribbon going all around. It wasn't particularly beautiful but it was sure flashing in the green grass she was sitting on. She was making a corona of flowers. If you asked her to bread that corona now, she would be able to do it just because she had watch herself as a little girl do it many times. She had never done that in this life.

Tuesday Travel 164: Witch Raising: The Book of Earth 11

Brownie started to wonder if the girl actually had a ticket. She was behaving really suspiciously. First having no seat then arriving in the middle of the journey. Plus Brownie didn't remember seeing any girl her age on the platform when the train arrived and with that hat, Daphy sure couldn't be missed.

Daphy finally closed her suitcase and took back her hat, she lie down on the seats and put her hat over her head as if she was going to sleep. For some reasons, just looking at her made Brownie very sleepy. She looked away trying to snap out of it, yawning and yawning. She drunk a little bit of water. Daphy didn't move at all. Brownie had trouble taking her eyes away but the more she looked at that green dress with orange hair falling on the side and the large hat, so round so strange, the more sleepy she felt. She took her stuff and went up to her couch. She didn't have time to put her head on the pillow that she was already asleep.
