“I think we will have to work on the stone some other time, the more pressing now is to go to a safe place”, Nicolas said.
“You are safe with me”, I answered.
“But you are not always going to be around, and if we go out leaving Perenelle alone at home, anything can happen”, Nicolas said taking her hand lovingly. I couldn’t do that I couldn’t take Sorina’s hand right now and by just watching them so happy my heart was agonizing.
“Maybe we could…” I started but I couldn’t finish my sentence. Going back to Sighişoara, was feeling like an inaccessible dream. Despite me, I was feeling responsible for those people and I knew that even without the stone, vampires will come for me at some point, some times.
“Go to Praha, what an excellent idea”, Nicolas said. I looked at him surprised. He was filling the blank for me. He was making it easier for me to make the right choice but the choice still felt empty. Praha was not the best destination I could have thought of. Last time I was there, they were burning books, fighting for a god that couldn’t exist, because if he had really existed, if he had really listen to all the prayer the people in my village had sent to him every day and if he had been that powerful he would never had allowed them all to die that way, without even someone to properly follow the burial ritual.
“I think we should talk about it tomorrow, it’s getting late and we are all tired of the event of the day”, Nicolas said getting up.
I got up to, I really needed time on my own, I needed to be able to close my eyes to see her face and hear her voice. I muttered a good night and hugged myself walking to my room. My body was warm but that was nothing compared to her warmth against my cold old vampire skin.
