Welcome to a new excerpt of Rainbow Catcher for the Weekend Writing Warrior and Snippet Sunday.
Now let's go back to our story.
Summary of previous episodes: Clarissa is coughing and wanted to watch Everett Cooper on TV but Jason refused, she is due to get her rainbow the next day but she seems scared, to make her feel better Jason leave the TV on. Clarissa tried to explain about rainbows, she is a big fan of Everett Cooper but Jason is not too sure about it. Clarissa complained about her dialophone but Jason needs to go to work. Before completely leaving he is thinking about getting her her rainbow. We flashed back to the meeting Jason had with a rainbow seller at the black market. Jason left Clarissa's room to go to work. Jason was talking to his boss about the rainbow coming the next day. Jason prepared the money for the rainbow in a sport bag and went to the hospital. The rainbow seller arrived for the delivery.
Jason had been running in the corridors of the hospital and around it for now more than two hours, asking if anyone had seen a fat, sweating man in a dark green suit with an old sport bag. It was not the type of person who would wander around unnoticed, however, he seemed to have vanished into thin air. Nobody could give any information about the direction the man had taken, nobody saw him.
Jason sat on a bench in the park in front of the hospital. He wished Clarissa could see the trees and flowers from her bedroom, but the only thing she could see was the sky turning yellow green with the rise of the second sun. He counted his chances. He couldn’t go to the police, they wouldn’t believe that he could have been stolen so much money from without having to explain who stole it, and he could be the one getting in trouble for having used the black market even when his money had been smuggled. Having the first appointment with the fat man in the underworld was almost impossible in the first place, it took him weeks to even know the bar existed.

He doesn't have any options. He has to find the guy himself. Good snippet, Linda. :-)
ReplyDeleteHe needs to hunt this guy down. Great snippet.
ReplyDeleteOh, to get ripped off at such a time. Heartbreaking. Poor guy and girl...
ReplyDeleteThings appear dire at the moment. I hope he can figure out a way to find the 'fat man' himself.

ReplyDeleteThis is so sad (but not unexpected because I did not trust that guy who sold him the rainbow!). Enjoying the story and I hope he can either force the guy to give him one, or find another.
ReplyDeleteDealing with the black market there is nothing she can do. I didn't think things would go well with the rainbow.
ReplyDeleteInteresting... things are not always as they seem, are they? Gotta find that fat man...
ReplyDeleteI hope he has good luck on his search!
ReplyDeleteSounds like things feel out of his control and he sounds frustrated, that comes across well.
ReplyDeleteI could really feel his desperation and sadness for Clarissa in this snippet. The part about wishing she could see the trees and sky was so poignant! Nice snippet.

What happened to his friend that he worked for/with who was going to be there when he paid the man?
ReplyDeleteWell this is turning rather bleak... Poor guy. Someone needs to go grab a baseball bat and hunt the double-crosser down in my opinion, but he doesn't strike me much as the violent type. Also, the rise of the second sun? That has me curious now of what kind of world you have built. I've always been curious of that.
ReplyDeleteOMG ... no .... let him find that guy and get the money and rainbow!
