Thursday Taster 80: Parallel Slip

Hello and welcome to a new Thursday Taster, the day when awesome writers all over the blogosphere come together to give you tasty bits of their last fiction. You can find the list here.

She stood up to walked out of the amphitheater while I lingered longer in the room. I was going to come here every day to listen to other people. If it was really another four hours before the next black out, if four hours was really the limit and if my parents were really to keep their words, I would be able to stay here. It was three thirty and they had no reason to stay here longer.
"Maybe we should go shopping at that supermarket to get you some food for the week," my mother said.
That was a trap, that was such a trap and it was so obvious. I had blacked out around 2.30 pm four hours was 6.30pm. So if she insisted to stay here for dinner I was definitely going to black out in front of her again and this time she was going to notice.
"I thought you would go with me," a voice said without me.
I had no idea what Amy was doing in this amphitheater if her introduction had been in the morning but I had never been so happy to hear someone. I turned around to get face to face with lieutenant Fin.
"This is my brother Alex," Amy said. "We are twins but he wants to study physics for some reason."
I couldn't take my eyes of him, not Michelle's lieutenant Fin, my own lieutenant Fin was just in front of me, right here, right now in the world where my body was my own.
"Have we met before?" Alex asked.
"In a spaceship, did you practice piloting, it might become handy really," I said.
"What?"
"I told you I had a good feeling about her," Amy said.
I was so embarrassed. Alex was not Fin and I was still confused just looking at him.
"I'll take the girls shopping, I can carry the bags and be their body guard," Alex said.
"That sounds like a good idea," my father answered.
Was I wining? Was I really going to win over my mother so easily.
"I don't think you understand," my mother said, "Frederique can faint any minute without any warning and hurt herself."
"Then a better reason to have Alex with us, he can help taking her to the hospital," Amy answered.
My mother smiled, it wasn't an agreement smile, it was a smile that said "you're never gonna understand, you'll get tired of it, then I'll have my daughter back."
"I don't need to go to the hospital, all they can do is take a brain scan," I answered. "Just get me to my room."

  2. Doesn't she want to go? I am lost. Was this a trap from Amy? Maybe it will become more clear in the next excerpt. You really have me hooked on this story. The conflict between her and her mother keeps building. Good factor in yuur story

  4. Interesting little taste. I have the feeling her mother isn't easily won over.
