Thursday Fiction 353: Parallel Slip: Rebel

Welcome back to a new Thursday Fiction. We continue where we left of last week, following Isabelle as she figure out who she really is.

Romulus touched her thigh startling her. She looked at his face turned to his other neighbor before noticing a piece of paper in his hand. The took it and looked toward her mother to see if it was wise to open it know. Her heart was racing. She wondered if Romulus had finally decided to get over the fact that he was in his host body and to finally ask her for a date.

She couldn't open the paper no though. Romulus took her hand and moved it toward her pocket. She nodded to him slightly and he released her to take his glass of wine as she put the paper in her pocket. Now she had a secret with Romulus and she couldn't help herself from throwing side glance at him. She needed privacy to read his note but there was no way to get away from the table while dinner was still being served and while the guess were still here. She considered going to the toilet but that also wasn't an option, she would have her mother and Sophia on her back for it. So she decided to wait. She couldn't concentrate on the conversation anymore.

“Isabelle, you should answer Mike's question,” her mother said.

“I'm sorry I didn't quite catch that,” Isabelle said and Sophia's smile. It was one of her favorite line to pretend it was the other person's fault for not being intelligible when she couldn't bear to listen.

“I asked you, if you were in charge of this alliance in your mother's place what would be the first thing you do,” Mike asked again.

Isabelle smiled.
