About Witch Raising: The Book of Fire

Witch Raising is a new series with Brownie, the heroine of Demon Soul as the main character. This series is part of the House at the Crossing Series and follows Demon Soul and Demon and Fairy but instead of being centered on the adventure of Sahel and his demon friends, it follows Brownie as she goes from being a normal girl to a bad ass witch. She has been practicing magick for a while now, saving people from difficult situations but the people at the house, including Sahel aren't happy with her new calling. Feeling that she doesn't have a choice and has to keep learning witchcraft, Brownie leaves to meet other witches.

The excerpt, we start where we left off last time

"I think I kind of need that."
"If you're too tired for the climb, you can always try to find me," Josh said.
"I think I can manage," Brownie said.
She had rather good shoes. She had almost wanted to take her high heals with her but had decided for a very comfortable pair of walking shoes at the last moment. The old her would have gone with Marri and Sandy for a shopping trip in high heals, stopping at cafe for a drink and some pastry, looking at all the store and buying things for her and maybe for her sisters. But the new her had something to learn from this new place. It was a strange feeling to be sitting in a group people so different from each other and once again she was choosing different than who she believed her true self to be. Why was that? What was pushing her forward to a 18 kilometers walk through a city she didn't know, maybe danger at a demon cave and visiting old temple? She didn't know. It was as if learning magic had created a shift inside of her. If anything, she was just curious.

Brownie woke up really early the next morning. There was no breakfast ready at that time so she went back to the hostel that smelled like pastry. The same man greeted her, still in his apron. He had dark circle under his eyes and she wondered if he had been baking all night.
"Hey, so you found a place to stay?"
"Yes, I'm at the back-packers," Brownie said.
"That's good to hear. We'll deliver there in one hour," he said.
