About Witch Raising: The Book of Fire
Witch Raising is a new series with Brownie, the heroine of Demon Soul as the main character. This series is part of the House at the Crossing Series and follows Demon Soul and Demon and Fairy
but instead of being centered on the adventure of Sahel and his demon
friends, it follows Brownie as she goes from being a normal girl to a
bad ass witch. She has been practicing magick for a while now, saving
people from difficult situations but the people at the house, including
Sahel aren't happy with her new calling. Feeling that she doesn't have a
choice and has to keep learning witchcraft, Brownie leaves to meet
other witches.
The excerpt, we start where we left off last week
“Does anyone ever make
it to destination without missing their train?” She asked.
“I would hope so but I
seriously don't know,” the lady said.
Not so much for a sale.
“I'll take the one to
Evergreen Stop,” Brownie said with a sigh.
“Open ticket or not,”
the lady asked.
“What's the
difference?”
“With an open ticket
you can make extra stops in between to visit different city,” the
lady said.
“So if I miss a train I
can just take the next one?”
“Yes, something like
that I guess,” the lady said.
Brownie wondered how many
time she had been in a train or trains from coast to coast.
“Basically that's what
most tourist take, you know, lot of places to see that you never
though about before meeting someone in the previous city, stuff like
that,” the lady said.
If that meant she could
take whatever train on the way even if she missed one, that was way
better than running half awake at 1.32 in the morning. She could have
chosen Samircity but still something made her decide to go to
Evergreen Stop.
“Alright then, I guess
that's one open ticket to Evergreen Stop,” Brownie said.
The lady smiled, asked
for money and printed her ticket. It was a really simple ticket with
places for at least 15 stamps it came with a list of train that could
be taken and a list of forbidden train, a limit date and a map of the
railway. She was going to cross the entire country west to Evergreen
Stop which was the closest city to Evergreen but wasn't part of it.
“I need to copy your
passport,” the lady said. “Just to make it case Evergreen
authority ask about you when you cross the border, they seldom do,
but it can happen.”
Brownie gave her her
passport. It was weird because technically her ticket didn't even
have her cross the border. Maybe everyone going to Evergreen Stop
never stopped there but always continued to Evergreen. That was a
funny thought since the place was called Evergreen Stop.
The lady came back with
her passport and asked her to sign the copy as a prove of identity to
make sure the signature was the same. She gave her the ticket, her
change and her passport back and that was it. The next train was
leaving in less than fifteen minutes and the lady pointed vaguely
toward the dock and wished her a good trip.
