WeWriWar 154: Rainbow Catcher

Welcome to a new excerpt of Rainbow Catcher for the Weekend Writing Warrior and Snippet Sunday

Now let's go back to our story.

Summary of previous episodes: Clarissa is coughing and wanted to watch Everett Cooper on TV but Jason refused, she is due to get her rainbow the next day but she seems scared, to make her feel better Jason leave the TV on. Clarissa tried to explain about rainbows, she is a big fan of Everett Cooper but Jason is not too sure about it. Clarissa complained about her dialophone but Jason needs to go to work. Before completely leaving he is thinking about getting her her rainbow. We flashed back to the meeting Jason had with a rainbow seller at the black market. Jason left Clarissa's room to go to work. Jason was talking to his boss about the rainbow coming the next day. Jason prepared the money for the rainbow in a sport bag and went to the hospital. The rainbow seller arrived for the delivery.

We start just where we left off last week.

“I’m not sure if all the words are going to be ok, but the one you used are,” she answered.
“You were not expecting me to test it for all the words?”
“Why not?” Clarissa said.
“Because first it’s impossible and second it’s unnecessary.”
“How do you know?”
She was acting like a kid again. Jason felt a little bit frustrated.
“Sound is a wave if it goes through fine once it will go through fine again independently of words,” he explained, trying to be patient.

  1. This has the genuine feel of a brother-sister conversation! "All the words" Love it. Nicely done :-)

  2. So the words are going through the rainbow? You've got me wondering why that's significant.

  5. I'm sorry but I'm a little confused. What does the rainbow have to do with the device (ss this the one on his wrist?)? Is it the same thing? Really, really interesting concept--I'm just trying to piece it all together. :-)

  6. I like that he's patient, more or less, but I have to wonder if she's got an important point too, about different words going through!

  7. Maybe someone is stalling for time...no one can be that patient.

  8. Maybe she'll do better once she understands the reason behind sound waves. :-)

  9. I am beginning to wonder why she is being so specific and insisting on individual word use testing here.

  10. I think she's afraid (or maybe knows?) that he's going to go away once he's sure the dialophone is working and that's why she's sort of stalling for time, to keep him around longer.

  11. I think she's either stalling or his explanation of sound waves is going to be important later on.

  12. I gotta agree with a few others here. I think she's afraid and stalling for time so he doesn't leave yet.

  14. I'm intrigued. The rainbow acts as a sound amplification device, maybe? Like amplifying it so it can travel long distances? Hmm... Interesting snippet, Linda.
