We introduced Sorina, three weeks after the beginning of Viorel's escape.
Viorel dreamed of Sorina and woke up not really remembering anything. Traveling to Paris, he arrives at "La cour des miracles". He is rescued by a stranger who turned out to be Nicolas Flamel, the alchemist he was looking for. Nicolas does some strange experiment without Viorel's agreement. Some people are looking for Nicolas's secrets. On the other side of Europe, Sorina awakes and Viorel's past in haunting him. Viorel discovered that he can change into a wolf but that's not the easiest thing to handle. After finding out that a younger version of Nicolas might not be acting with his best interest at heart, Viorel decides to leave for the north. He is now traveling with two people, Alexej who needed to get out of Praha and Irina who he accidentally rescued.
“Of course we can, there has been enough death already,” I said pushing the thought to his mind. I could see it process by looking at his face. “We don’t need the eggs, if we leave the dragons alone, they will go away after the hatching and we will have nothing more to fear.”
He looked at me as if he was seeing me for the first time while we had been walking next to each other since the beginning.
“Let’s go back, he is right, we don’t need the eggs, we can’t fight the dragons,” he said.
There were cries around him, some wanted to fight to avenge the dead which would be meaningless if they gave up now. Other sighed with relief and started to move back already. The female dragon was still attacking the other side, moving like a demon, toward us to spit her fire. I had never seen such a creature but I had seen such behaviour. Dragons and humans weren’t all that different. She was protecting her eggs just like a mother would have protected her child. The love for an offspring was universal. The men tried to run back down but it seemed that the dragon’s eyes were sensitive to movement. I advised them not to run, to stay calm to keep on watching the dragons and to be careful where they were going, to move only when it was looking away but that was mostly vain. The flee took more men than the attack, the dragon was merciless, she would have just killed anyone if her partner didn’t emit a strident sound that made her get back to the grotto. They could communicate. I was amazed, I would have liked to stay here and watch them and learn something about them but I had to take care of the humans. I had been with them to fight the dragons and I intended to use that at my advantage to get them up against the Jäger. There was no way I was letting them get the eggs, no matter what they intended to do with them.
