Welcome to a new excerpt of Rainbow Catcher for the Weekend Writing Warrior and Snippet Sunday.
Now let's go back to our story.
Summary of previous episodes: Clarissa is coughing and wanted to watch Everett Cooper on TV but Jason refused, she is due to get her rainbow the next day but she seems scared, to make her feel better Jason leave the TV on. Clarissa tried to explain about rainbows, she is a big fan of Everett Cooper but Jason is not too sure about it. Clarissa complained about her dialophone but Jason needs to go to work. Before completely leaving he is thinking about getting her her rainbow. We flashed back to the meeting Jason had with a rainbow seller at the black market. Jason left Clarissa's room to go to work. Jason was talking to his boss about the rainbow coming the next day. Jason prepared the money for the rainbow in a sport bag and went to the hospital. The rainbow seller arrived for the delivery. But it was a scam and Jason prepares to go get the rainbow himself in the desert.
“I’ll take the bus.”
“What will you do when you run out of money?”
“I’ll find a job for a day or two on the way.”
“I see.”
“What’s wrong?” Jason said alarmed at her change of expression.
“I was thinking, you don’t need to do all that for me, you can stay working at the garage with Markus, that way you get money for the house when I get home, and it’s comfortable,” she answered.
“You know we can't and beside, I don’t really want to be a mechanic all my life, I’m not even working on the machines, just cleaning, it's a handimate job and a handimate would do it better than me,” Jason said. "I'm lucky Markus bore with me for so long already."

If he were to stay working at the garage, what would she be doing?

Jason seems determined to get that rainbow regardless of Clarissa's objections. He has it all planned out.
ReplyDeleteI think I would choose chasing rainbows over working in a garage. And a rainbow-scammer? What kind of mean person does that? :-)
ReplyDeleteWell, he's determined not to let setbacks get in his way. I would like to know just what these "rainbows" are that they are trying to get hold of. I've scanned back pages but can't get a hint of why it's so important to have one. Seems that is a central piece of the story.

ReplyDeleteThey don't seem to be on the same page here. I'm wondering what this conversation is going to reveal about each to the other and whether they are willing to learn it.

ReplyDeleteSeems like they might both benefit - she'll get her rainbow and he'll get out of a job he doesn't like.

She is definitely trying to stall him now! She doesn't want him to go, or to keep trying. I think she has just accepted what will become of her and wants to spend the rest of her time with those she loves some place she is home. It's touching, and sad, all at once. I wonder what he'll do, if he'll be able to let her go like that.
